Sandman Signature Hotel

Stayed here in September before a Princess Cruise, and found the place very nice. They have a van for airport travel and were nice and clean rooms. Reasonably close to sky train.

Sandman shuttle from airport was full so driver told us to take a cab and front desk would pay for it. When we got to the hotel the guy working the front desk refused saying the Sandman driver shouldn’t have told us to take a cab. I paid out of my own pocket for the cab when it was clear the hotel wouldn’t pay and didn’t get a receipt as the cab driver was very upset by this point at his long it was to get paid and he took the money and left immediately. Spoke to the manager the next day and she knew the full story and refused to reimburse me using the excuse I had no receipt. Very poor customer service.

Very good hotel for airport stay. Paid $ 150 including one night stay and parking for up to 15 days.
Don’t mistake this for the regular Sandman, about one block away. This one is nicer!
It’s not fancy but you aren’t staying at a 4+star hotel here. It’s got nice finishings, lobby and on site restaurant choices. Families will love the pool area with huge tube slide! We did. There’s a Steve Nash tennis club and fitness included. It’s not great for workout equipment but adequate.
Rooms are pretty standard and décor appears new and modern. TV in our room was tiny and there’s no fridge.
Housekeeping needed a bit more detail. Sheets were clean and bathroom sanitized but they need to move chairs and get under the bed skirting!
However, we were able to check in early (2PM).
Ate at Chop (on-​site restaurant). They’ve got a good kids menu and decent steaks/​seafood. $ 100 for two adults and two kids meals, one alcoholic drink.
Good and friendly service all around.
Overall, we were happy with it and will stay here again, if only just for that water slide, which opens at 3 or 4 pm, btw.

I’m not very impressed with this hotel. We reserved a room for our night stay in Richmond. The proximity of this hotel to the night market was good and the free parking was great but they are also sharing a lot with Denny’s and a gym so it can get packed and hard to find parking closer to the entrance.
For the price per night for the hotel room is just not worth it. We got a room on the 5^th floor, Columbia tower right off of the elevator. Our room was very basic. There were some stains on the headboard and the curtains. The lamp that was connected to the headboards does not work. There were 2 lamps on each side and we have 2 queen beds, only 1 lamp on each bed worked. The lamp on the tables does not work either and yes, they were plugged in. There was a digital alarm clock on the table as well but it was off. There was no microwave or a mini fridge. Also, my breath feels hotter than the blow dyer that was in the bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable. You can feel the dents in them like they’re worn out.
We checked out and asked the front desk where are the ice machines and he was like «it’s in one of the towers.» Great. Forget it.
I’ve stayed at Palms Motel in Vancouver off of Kingsway and I was more pleased with that place than this. I don’t mind staying at a motel or a cheap hotel it’s only for a night anyway but if I paid a decent amount of money for my room, I would expect to get my money’s worth and this one is not part of it. Will not be staying here again.

Extremely annoying construction right above my room that woke me up early in the morning. It was SO LOUD that my room was shaking. Do not stay here. Not worth it.

It may be a 3-​star hotel, but it is not well maintained. Signs of deterioration are everywhere, in the room and in shared areas.
Check-​in starts at 3 pm. But when my family with young children tried to check in at 4:30 pm on a Saturday, we were made to wait for half an hour because no room is ready for us.
There was a hole on the wall in our room, about 1 foot x 1 foot, exposing pipes in the wall. They had a cover for the hole, but it wouldn’t stay in pace.
The vent in the bathroom does not work at all.
We were out and about from 9 am to 5 pm, yet when we return, our room hadn’t be cleaned. The cleaning team, apparently understaffed, finally reached our room when we were trying to take a shower.
Absolutely not worth the price.

Overall this was a fairly nice hotel. However, it’s clear that not much attention is paid to detail. For example, my room, though clean and nice enough in appearance, had several issues. For one, the television didn’t work. The sound would come on, but no picture. Second, the air conditioning was broken. The thermostat seemed operational but the air never came on no matter what I did. I ended up having to resort to sleeping with the window open instead, something I prefer not to do due to outside noise. When I brought these items to the attention of the front desk, the attendant (who needs lessons in smiling and being friendly) offered to move me to a different room. I was in a hurry out the door and didn’t have time to do that so I asked that she instead send someone from maintenance to my room. «We don’t do that,» she responded. Huh? So what do they do, just leave broken things broken? I feel for the next guest in that room. Unfortunately I cannot remember the room number or I would provide it here.
Anyway, I wouldn’t necessarily not recommend this hotel but make sure you check out everything in the room to make sure everything works before you unpack and get settled.

Overall it was alright! For $ 175 a night it’s not worth it. I stayed bc of the Night Market. There was a dirty towel and there was a long hair stuck on the bath tub. The AC is very noisy and not cool at all for 75 degrees at night. The beds were small considering 2 avg size females. Basically no room to turn. The good thing that I did like was free overnight parking.

I stayed at the Sandman Sig. for 2 nts w/​my mom and 3 boys. It seemed like it would be kid friendly since they offered large suites, 3 pools and a water slide. It wasn’t– catered toward business. However, this rating is due to the disrepair of our room. It seemed ok at first– we were out all day so we didn’t inspect everything. Late afternoon on the 2^nd night, the ceiling started dripping in the eating area of the suite-​it was bulging with water around the air vent. It was a very hot day, but you could see where the ceiling had been patched previously. Upon further inspection, there was mold in that area and 2 other areas of the suite. When brought to the attention of the front desk, I was only told, «I’m very sorry» with the same passion one might exclaim, «I’m buying onions.» Besides the unhealthy condition of the rm, the queen bed was toooo soft, the twin bed was strangely sloped, & the pull-​out couch was so uncomfortable that my kids slept on the floor. The lamp and desk were stained and there was a large chip out of the nightstand. The safe didn’t work. The carpet, linens, and bar stools were new. The lobby was nice, but 1 pool was closed, 2^nd was closed most of the time & 3^rd was accessed down a hard-​to-​find dingy hall. Oh, and the wifi didn’t work most of the time! Getting back to the unfriendly staff, I was left standing and waiting on sev occasions, while some talked on the phone and others scurried into the back. Spend your money elsewhere. Or bring a hazmat suit and your own internet access.

First time staying in a Sandman establishment and disappointed. The rooms need updating. Bathroom has minor repairs that were neglected. The beds were ok, no complementary breakfast. The only plus was the water slide pool. The room has a mini fridge but no microwave.
Also, the elevator always goes up to the 11^th floor for some reason, very annoying. Wi Fi is inconsistent you hAve to go down to the lobby. TV is too small and bad reception.
Holiday inn express is much better!

I booked this hotel through a Hotwire bid for 3.5* hotel anyway this is the hotel I won for a 2 night stay. Upon checking in I was given a room in the tower for a room with 2 queens but I had asked if they had a single king available instead. I was told I could have a room in the Provincial wing either ground floor or second floor but not in the tower. To me I’d rather not be in the tower.
The room we took would have been primo in the summer as the outdoor pool is literally a sliding door away from us but being fall and all it didn’t matter.
The room was clean but I did notice there are some things that weren’t really clean which probably should have been. The room seemed less kept as another Sandman Signature I had just stayed in the week before in Langley. That unit was much more up to par, practically at «Westin» level. The quality of our room was ok but as I said, not as well kept.
The Langley Sandman Signature I had last week had a mini-​fridge and a microwave. This one in Richmond didn’t even have a min-​fridge which I like because I usually go out and buy a bunch of drinks.
The facility overall is huge. 2 towers, 3 restaurants quite a bit of parking and a Steve Nash sports facility.
Overall the location is good because it’s near the highway, airport and root towards downtown. I just thought the room could use a bit of a makeover and it could be a bit cleaner.

We had an overnight layover in Vancouver and needed a hotel close to the airport. The Sandman Signature looked like a great option as it has an indoor pool with water slide and hot tub, as well as an outdoor pool and lounge area. Sandman seems like a newer chain so we thought this would be a good fit.
The location is very convenient to the airport. The building was a different hotel previously and is a fairly large hotel, but it wasn’t very impressive. There are some great features to this hotel. For an economy hotel, the room size is pretty decent. Beds were comfortable and rooms had been redone fairly recently. The grounds are kept nicely. There are a number of fast food restaurants within walking distance for a quick bite to eat. The outdoor pool area is spacious, the pool is quite large and the chaise lounge chairs are comfortable and the ambience is really great. I also found the staff to be resourceful, the lobby is quite large.
The property is aged and some portions need some major renovations. The signs directing you to the right tower and such are not very good and the carts to bring up your luggage with: 2 of the 3 we tried had issues pushing them and the third one we made do with even though it didn’t turn very easily. The hallways are very narrow and not just a straight hallway, so it was very hard to get the cart through the hallway. The indoor pool was really dirty looking and the hot tub was even worse. I think we came on an off day though because they were trying to address the fact that the pool was freezing cold so going on the water slide was out for me. My wife and daughter went on it once before realizing how cold the water was and that was the only time they went.
It’s truly not a bad option as most of my complaints are likely a non issue if traveling alone for business and need a cheaper hotel for a bed. I wouldn’t be opposed to staying here again.

This is a overdue review (about a month) but thinking about my stay was so aggravating I needed to poke myself in the eye for a pleasant distraction. I wish I could take stars away, it was so bad, I kept thinking it was a hidden camera show.
Check-​in– convienently can’t locate our reservation (or the couple behind us either). Kept us at the desk for an hour to figure it out… then tried to charge us twice for the room! For even more fun, he takes my credit card and walks off with it to a back room for 5 minutes «to photocopy, it’s our policy.»
The room– in the evening, after a nice hot day, they kept the temperature of the room at a balmy 28.5 degrees, closed the patio door and let it bake so we could really enjoy the musty, stale, moth-​ball scented room! Yay! They were even nice enough to let the only man on their payroll who could fix broken A/C’s have the night off! They did send a 12 year old kid up to tell us that and that they also gave all the fans away since there were that many A/C’s out of commission. The fix? Leave your screen less patio door open all night. WTF? Oh and I took a picture of the private deck with matching furniture. The carpet was with questionable stains so we decided to brake out our flip-​flops the entire stay. The ice machine was on another floor and smelled like someone thought it was a bathroom.
The only training anyone at the hotel had was to offer $ 7.50 breakfast vouchers to Denny’s– the little diner you walk past the Chop House to on the otherwise of the property. I’m thinking the Columbia tower is for common folk and the British tower is where all the people who gave this place more than one star stayed.
If you’re from the states– it’s worse than a Motel 6. If you’re from Canada, sleep in your car.

When I was given the criteria I book a hotel with a slide I didn’t have high hopes. The only hotels I had ever seen with a slide were dingy and old. But that is what my 5 year old nephews really want so how can I refuse.
I found the sandman signature online for a really good price for flights and room together and it happened I have a slide! Awesome.
When I got there I was really surprised. This was a nice hotel that looked very modern and nice. My room was pretty standard but there was a little water damage by the sink. Not a major deal however.
The gym they have is well equipped but not very nice. The great thing however is that they have a deal with the Steve Nash gym next door and you get complimentary access during your stay.
The slide was a lot of fun for me and my nephews. After running up those stairs 20 times however you need to take a break.
Unfortunately the hot tub was not working during my stay but I used the gym hottub next door instead.
All in all a fantastic experience. I highly recommend staying here.

BEWARE: Terrible hotel experience. AC was out in the room and hallway. Ice machine was out on the floor and adjacent floors. House keeping was poor. Pool was closed — water appeared green. Property seems as if owners are in financial trouble, or, not willing to maintain.
Positives: King size bed was comfortable. Bathroom was spacious.

So my sister and I decided to go away for a relaxing girls’ weekend. We checked in on Saturday evening and the front desk could not locate our reservation booked through Priceline. Now what are the odds of that happening? Well, the same exact thing happened to the couple next to us who booked through Expedia. After calling their call center and spending almost an hour sorting through this snafu (as apparently the hotel was completely booked, etc)… our reservation was found and a room located. Unfortunately for us, the room was quite run down. First, the A/​C was not working (think 80+ degrees at 10:30pm in our room) and the hotel did not have any fans as they were lent out to all the other hotel guests with A/​C issues. The front desk debacle delayed us so long that we couldn’t even make it to the pool to cool off. Then there were no refrigerators in our room so we had to drag in a cooler from the car to keep some cold water in the room to cool off with. The décor… there was water damage to the mirror in our bathroom and the little folding mirror was barely hanging into the wall (mount was broken). Not to mention, who keeps their coffee and tea in the bathroom? Light was out over one of the beds.
So was the room worth $ 200+ USD/​night??? Absolutely not. If this is their «signature» hotel… I’d hate to see what the other hotels in the chain must look like. Do not be fooled by the nice appearance in the lobby. This is an outdated and rundown hotel in need of severe repair. My advice… I’d drive home before staying here again.

My Suite on first floor was good enough for my family of 4.
Exterior of the hotel looks modern and great. Lobby was modern. However, the suite that I stayed in had broken light bulbs over the kitchen counter top.
King size bed, one Twin bed, and the sofa bed were in my room.
Which I used them all.
Two pools were open. 1 Indoor pool with LONG Slide, which my kids loved. but, water was rather dirty.
Outdoor pool had much better water quality.
Staffs were very nice.
Will I stay here again. Hummm. I think I will try some other place in the area next time to explore

First the good:
Front desk staff was professional if a bit cool (maybe it’s a Canadian thing).
Beds were very comfortable, and linens clean without super hot bleach smell.
Free parking.
Now the not so…
Columbia Tower — 1 of 3 elevators out of service
Slide at swimming pool out of service (kids were disappointed, Mom was pissed that they did not make a note on their website).
Swimming pool floors were dirty.
Swimming pool shower was out of service.
1 of 4 lights over the 2 queen beds were broken.
Mirror in bedroom was poorly installed and damaged by water splashing from sink.
Management really needs to get onto basic maintenance. If the Hotel is not full, take some rooms out of service and fix the bits and pieces.
Bottom Line:
If you just need a comfortable place to sleep, Sandman is a good option. If you are on vacation and want a nice, upscale experience… this is not it.

This hotel is my second home, and I don’t mind it one bit.
The rooms are always nice and clean, hotel staff are friendly and always helpful. Beds are comfortable, outlets provided by the bed and most rooms, if not all, have balconies (ideal, of course, only in warmer months).
I LOVE that there are restaurants attached (24-​hour Denny’s and Chop Steakhouse) and some within walking distance, Steve Nash gym next door and a shuttle to the airport that runs constantly throughout the day, making it the ideal airport layover hotel.
Only complaints are the layout of the hotel (not the greatest to find elevators to your room if you don’t know the hotel as well as I do) & the volume of the elevators arriving at each floor (fairly loud, especially if you’ve got a room within proximity of them).
