Captain Printworks

It’s great to have a great print shop in this area. They offer so much more than photocopies and quick print jobs. Front desk staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I’ve been using Captain for years and have always been pleased with services and quality. The specialty processes ie. Letterpress and Intaglio are a must if you want your cards and print projects to stand above the crowd.

Although pricey ($ 5 minimum charge — avoid for small jobs!) you can count on Captain for a quality job in a timely manner.

In case you come here just to print one or two pics/​documents in regular sizes, be aware that the minimum they will charge you is $ 5. They say it’s 20 cents per copy, but if you just do 4, they won’t charge you a dollar, which is what should be, they will charge you a minimum of $ 5, because their printers are «different.» Yes, they are different, they are crappier than the usual. The quality was absolutely horrible. If you are a designer or slightly care about stuff like color and lineweights do not use this place, the final product is just horrible.

I’ve never written a review before but my brief experience with this place was negative enough that I see the need to post this. I really didn’t appreciate the way I was treated by the lady that answered the phone when I called the shop for questions and quote request. I’ve dealt with many other shops on similar matters but nothing as bad.
I’m a freelance designer, and one of my clients was a non-​profit so part of my job was to produce material at the lowest cost possible. I mentioned that we’d like to get stuff printed, would like to get a quote for the job and also asked if they offer discounts/​sponsorship for registered charities (Many print shops have community sponsorship programs, or offer at least a 15% discount to charities). Before I was able to finish, she simply blurted out «Hold on, I’ll transfer you to the person that deals with this stuff» and then transferred me to, guess what, her own voicemail. And of course I never got a call back.
I understand «solicitation» calls/​emails can be annoying. But not all are with bad intentions and I always stay polite and professional and make it clear from the start that we are not simply asking for freebies, but a honest quote so we can compare prices, just like everybody else would. I believe good customer service is to treat all potential patrons with the same courtesy, not just the ones that already have a chunk of bills in their hands. A simple but respectful «Sorry, we are not interested at this time» or «Unfortunately we cannot accommodate» or even just provide me with the quote that I asked for as a potential paying customer would have sufficed. Any of the above options would have taken a few seconds and wouldn’t have ruined someone else’s afternoon. So, word of advice to businesses alike — things like that stick. I won’t be considering this place for my future printing needs.

Amid the plethora of print shops in Toronto, it’s hard to know where to go. Look no further! THIS is definitely the place to go.
While it’s a bit confusing to find the entrance, well-​placed signs led me to the right place. The staff are patient and extremely friendly. The girl who helped me paid great attention to detail and made sure my items came out exactly the way they were supposed to. I didn’t have my items on a USB but I was able to email the files to her from my laptop & smartphone. I can’t speak for the variety of stock they carry, but they had exactly what I was looking for for my particular project, and the price was much better than any other shop I’ve used before. I will definitely be coming back to Captain Printworks from now on for all my printing stuff. Captain Printworks to the rescue! (they really need some kind of mascot with a cape!)
TIP: Don’t look for the building address when walking along Yonge St., enter from Charles instead. If TTC’ing: take subway to Bloor-​Yonge station… walk South on Yonge… turn West (right) on Charles… the shop is on the North (right) side of the street.

Entrance is hella confusing. You can’t enter through inside the mall. You have to go outside, to the most illogical and under-​used part of the mall to get to the entrance.
But once you get past that, the service and pricing here is AMAZING.
I had to print off 50 posters for an event and the Asian lady in her 30s was super helpful. Plus, their stock standard paper is pretty nice, I didn’t even end up paying extra for the fancier stuff!
I’d definitely come here again if I needed to print off some posters.

These guys were super helpful, fast (took less than 24 hours to get my 3,800+ business cards) and quite cheap. Print quality is very good, and all the business cards were carefully packed in separate small boxes. Really happy with the transaction.

I am a self-​employed brand and business designer. I use Captain Printworks for just about all my print jobs. Everytime they come through on time or early! They are always use high quality paper and have very crisp finished prints!
