Description

Specialties

C’est What offers a diverse menu of comfort food made from scratch with real honest ingredients. It is also Toronto’s preeminent craft beer purveyor and original craft beer and wine restaurant, featuring 42 craft brews on tap — including eight on cask, fine whiskies from the world over, and a select all Ontario VQA wine list.

C’est What showcases live, original, indie music in its music room. Other diversions include board games, pool tables, and fireplaces.

History

Established in 1988.

Started in 1988 when an early mid-life crisis hit founder George Milbrandt at the age of twenty-seven. He left behind his architectural training and a construction business and relentlessly hounded family, friends and friends of friends to buy shares for start-up capital and opened with a mandate of «true local flavour».

C’est What was the first Toronto establishment of any kind to offer local craft beer and wine exclusively. As a result, a whole new generation of restaurateurs grew up knowing that local was not only good but financially viable. It has tripled in size, quadrupled the draught selection, and showcased the who’s who of the Canadian indie music scene over the years.

All of this should not understate the importance of people in the C’est What experience. We make decisions here based on our passions not a focus group study. In fact, you are served by real people that each have their own personality and have not been neutered by a corporate handbook.
