Civello Salon & Spa

Came here for a haircut last month. I walked in and made an appointment. Unfortunately, I had to change my appointment time. They were super accommodating and easily changed my appointment. I booked with Michael as I was told that he could cut curly hair. I was almost 15 mins late, but they did not complain or criticize my tardiness (which was super nice). I was taken downstairs to put my stuff away and put on a robe. When I went upstairs, Michael checked out my hair, gave me a neck and shoulder massage and then washed my hair out. After this I had the quickest haircut of my life. So the appointment was for 45 mins, I think the cut itself was like 10 mins! I wanted my hair to remain long, just to cut the dry ends. Still, considering my natural hair is curly, it was a super quick cut. Then Michael used the round brush to blowout my hair. This blowout lasted several days! It was awesome! Also awesome? The Unilocal check-​in deal. You get a free sample size of an Aveda product. I got to try some great products which I will soon be purchasing. The salon offers a wide range of services at different price points, so it’s affordable and everyone was really friendly.

An all-​around awesome salon! The service is thoughtful, relaxing and pampering. If you’re looking for a small and intimate salon-​experience, this is not your place. If however, you’re looking for a specific type of hair treatment (cut, colour, etc.) this might be your place as they have several stylists at many levels. Many of their stylists are also encouraged to go through the Aveda beauty school too so they are properly and extensively trained prior to working there.

So annoying to make appointments there. They don’t even answer the phone anymore apparently– tried calling a bunch of different times during the day and it always goes straight to voicemail telling you to «leave a message and a guest service representative will call you back» — like as if they’ve EVER done that.
Should be able to just book your appointments online, or maybe hire people who are able to answer phones? really shouldn’t be this hard.
In fairness, the place is actually pretty decent once you get there, the service is fine, but not definitely worth waiting on hold like an idiot for 10min every time to make an appointment just so you can leave a voicemail that will obviously never be returned.
I’d rather pay more for a salon that answers their phones. #Fail.

Love the neck massage and tea provided by the very friendly staff here! Clean environment, all herbal stuff smells good versus feeling breathing in chemical at the other salons. They use their herbal oil to massage me while I’m waiting for my colouring, so relaxing! They changed my tea during my wait. Always make sure I’m comfortable here. Love the whole experience!
In terms of colouring, depends who you get. Sometimes I can’t archive the look I want but sometimes I’m lovely in that color. Will see how it comes out this time :)

Had my first visit to Civello today. I was so pleasantly surprised by the wonderful service! From the moment I walked in I was treated by a friendly receptionist, taken to the waiting area and provided with a black robe to put on. I was offered juice, coffee, tea and water to drink and sat with the latest magazines while I waited for my stylist. My stylist, Gabo, was friendly, upbeat and understood exactly what I wanted. He coloured my hair first and then Grant washed my hair and provided a treatment for my summer damaged tresses.
On to the haircut. Gabo also cut my hair and made it look so good! He’s amazingly talented and very charming and entertaining. He even provided me with information on the best places to eat lunch in the area. The services are a bit pricer than your average salon but, this is not your average salon. I have found my go-​to salon in Toronto as well as my regular stylist, Gabo. I’ll definitely be back!!! :)

I always have good experiences at Civello. The service is always great and I love the essential oils, plus the robes they use don’t cut off my circulation at the throat.
1^st visit: Got my colour fixed by Tianna, rinsed out by Maxine, and a cut by Lauren. Only minor issues were that I was promised that I’d get to see Lauren for a consultation before my colour, but it didn’t happen until I requested it. I was also promised a scalp massage because when I was waiting for my colour to work its magic, they couldn’t give me the shoulder massage that they normally would. It didn’t happen either. And I didn’t get a coupon for my next visit, though I suspect they are no longer do that for first appointments. But I was very happy with my results — I attached some photos for refernece. Lauren is very talented and gave me a great cut & blowout.
2^nd visit: Got a blowout from Sophie because I had to take a professional portrait the next day and couldn’t book an appointment for the day of. Sophie gave me a lovely quick massage with the essential oil of my choice, and it was so perfect for the end of a work day! Sophie was very nice and did a great job — I fell asleep in the chair a few times. :P
3^rd visit: Learned Lauren’s no longer there. :(I had a cut with Sophie instead, who did a decent job. I love how she’s not pushy with getting you to get products.
Would come back and would recommend this place! I’m interested in getting a spa package next because their prices are very reasonable, especially when compared with other high end spas in downtown Toronto.

My first time at Civello and I loved it!
I was greeted with smiles and everyone was very kind. My colorist and hair stylist Melissa and Devin took the time to sit with me and decide what I wanted. After that I was off get beautified!
I love my end result and Melissa and Devin were amazing! They chatted with me and knew what they were doing. I left my hair in their hands and it came out wonderful!
I would most definitely recommend going to Civello and even though I’ve been there only once I highly recommend Melissa and Devin.

***Full disclosure: Only visited this salon because I got a hair makeover courtesy of The Marilyn Denis Show. So I have no clue as to how much a haircut is here, but I’m guessing it’s at least $$$***
I’ve been to almost the same calibre salon in Mississauga and the difference that I’ve noticed with Civello Vs. _​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​, is that Civello seems to focus on customer service. Whereas _​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​_​local salon had a really catty atmosphere, gossipy, hairdressers talking about customers/​other coworkers, etc. Civello really caters to their clients and makes them feel pampered, YES, even if they’re there as part of a tv show makeover. So, as a first-​timer at the salon, that was quite impressive to me!
As soon as you’re offered a robe, you’re asked if you want a drink (non-​alcoholic). Before the colourist starts his/​her job, you’re asked if you want another drink. After you get your hair coloured, the colourist gives you a neck/​shoulder message, very relaxing.
Dylan, the Creative Director, cut my hair and she was very professional and polite.
I feel very lucky that I had the opportunity to experience the salon that I normally wouldn’t even consider going to.

Michelle came into my life almost two years ago, and I have never looked better. She is a talented colourist, but I regularly visit her for blowouts and styles. If I have a work meeting, a social event or just want to add a spring in my step and my hair I book an appointment. She is a delight to work with. Michelle is not only an exceptional stylist she is also a joy to talk to, with a wonderful heart. From a babely blowout to braids or a sleek 90’s pony, get ready to impress your beau or your boss when you leave Michelle’s chair.
I hate to write this review because she always has space for me, but sometimes you need to share your secret weapon.

After my last review, the salon invited me back in to give them another chance. I love it when a company cares enough about their customers enough to want to win them back, so I thought, why not? I was in need of a cut and colour so I booked in and hoped for the best.
I had a completely different experience this time. Michael was amazing, and really took the time to listen to what I wanted. He had some suggestions as to what would look good on me and even showed me a couple of photos to make sure we were on the same page — no surprises. I LOVE the colour. I’ve tried to go darker before but never been happy with it. Michael suggested a warmer shade of brown and it totally works. He listened to me when I said I wanted to keep my length as I was growing it out and gave me some tips on how best to do it. After the cut he blow dried my (super straight) hair and put waves in it. I walked out feeling like a super model!

I had gone to another salon in Toronto for a blonde balayage dye job for the summer. Unfortunately, the stylist completely botched it, and I was in desperate need for someone to fix it for me!
Michelle at Civello did an amazing job, and was able to take my skunky-​hair to a more natural, well-​blended blonde. I am beyond impressed with her skills, and I will definitely be coming back! Michelle listened to exactly what I wanted, and exceeded my expectations in what I received!
The salon is competitively priced, so my hair style didn’t break the bank either, which was a huge plus!

I’ve been coming to Civello for about 2 months and I will continue to cause the device here is unbelievable!
I see Gabo who is amazing at blow drys! I usually don’t want something done up but want my hair to look good too and he does an amazing job!
The botanical hair treatment has done wonders for my hair! absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone who’s hair need a little bit of life.
Gabo also cut my hair and actually listened to me when I asked him to keep my length which very few hairstylists do.
Basically if your coming here book your hair appointment with Gabo and you won’t regret it!
The service at the spa itself is amazing and I recommend coming early as you can take advantage of the juice and coffee bar!

Late February I had a massage from a male RMT and a facial by Olivia. Both were fantastic.
I returned last Thursday for another facial by Olivia. She had recommended as each season changes to come in for a facial. She does a wonderful job. You pick the scented oils you want to use via an aroma therapy technique she does. After the facial you get a bit of a hand & foot massage and its ended with a head & shoulder massage.
She stated my face was dry and it had needed a drink! Ha! I said: it was thirsty was it?! Ha! Lovely young lady from Ireland.
The area upstairs is where the services are provided so it’s not wheelchair accessible. Very modern yet serene environment.
Facial was $ 107 with taxes.

After my previous review I received a phone call from their salon apologizing for the bad blow dry. I was not expecting a call so that was surprising and nice. I was told that on my next visit they would offer me the service of a stylist and a free manicure.
Its nice when a company cares but I think I’ll stick to my previous rating since from a place of this stature (and one that’s so expensive) a perfect blow dry is not much to ask…

Packing a blow dryer and the necessary accoutrements for good hair takes up too much room in my luggage, so the first thing I do when I arrive to a new city is figure out where to get my hair done!
I chose Civello based on a few things… one, they were close to where my event was… two, they are an Aveda salon which I know always has extra perks like the scalp massage and coffee… and three, I’m pretty sure I remembered the name from a TV show they must have sponsored.
Booking was easy, I even got my requested on a Saturday (lucky me!)
My appointment was with Anthea who I saw from other reviews was amazing with curly hair (yessss!) and let me tell you the other reviewers were not exaggerating! She was amazing! She styled my hair exactly as I requested-​smooth with lots of curl!
The ONLY reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 us that they don’t let you leave the gratuity on Visa. They only accept cash or debit, neither of which I had on me since I was travelling and much to my embarrassment I might add! (Sorry Anthea!)
If you have a special occasion or if you are just looking to get a long lasting hair do, I highly recommend! I will definitely be back!

This is a very nice, luxurious spa experience. I have always had great services and friendly spa experiences. Great, convenient, location right downtown and accessible by queen streetcar or short walk west from osgoode subway. They put themselves over the top with the complimentary coffee and tea. Their aveda tea is amazing.

Really enjoyed my hair cut, came here with my BF and had a fun time. Thank you for seating us together! The service was great, really had a great time at this location.

Love it! I got highlights for my first time, and Avery did a great job. She’s nice and she understands what you want. The service was excellent and my hair looks great thanks to her. I recommend this place a 100% !

I’ve been coming here since I moved to Toronto, and the service overall is great. Michael cuts my hair and Alana colors it. Before Alana I had never colored my hair and she did an amazing job, they both did. Always come here whenever I need anything done with my hair, and I highly recommend them.
Only problem is– each time I come, I wait for quite a while.

I’ve been to their aveda institute as well as this big brand Civello. I’ve been very impressed by their customer service. From the moment I stepped in the door, the receptionist greets me and gets me seated where my stylist performs her artwork on my hair. They serve tea, coffee, and water to their guests and treats them with respect.
My hair stylist, Erika, has been there for my hair since the beginning of her career at Civello. She knows what I want and understands how I feel about my hair. She also tries to get to understand how you are feeling during the week and creates small talk. She’s good at remembering that information and makes you feel better during the cut or the styling. Her updos and styling is absolutely amazing!
One time I had a vintage look and all I needed were some red lips and some 1950s clothes to complete the look! Fantabulous!
I would definitely recommend people to come here at least once in their lifetime. Yes it is a high class hair salon, but it is that way for a reason!
