Concepts Salon & Spa-Toronto

This was my first time being at Concepts Salon @ Bloor location. I had a pleasure of meeting Sora. I had bleached hair that i did myself at home, heavily damaged with really brassy look in the middle and very light ends. I discussed my options of either going darker in one colour or doing a balayge. I decided to go darker in chocolate because I didn’t want to damage my hair any more and also didn’t want to cut too much off at the end (which I needed to do if I had to lighten my hair). Sora was amazing! she cut my hair exactly the way I liked and she coloured it really nicely. I loved the fact that they don’t over cut your hair and make it really short (problem with so many salons) I love my new hair and will definitely come here again during summer when I want to change my hair a bit.

STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! These people are deaf. They do not listen to you at ALL! They give you the haircut they think you want. Not the haircut you actually want. Very insulting people. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. The people there will look you up and down and give you a haircut that is absolutely nothing similar to what you described to them. They have no concern for customers. They just want to scam you into an expensive cut that is easy and fast for them to get you in and out. Disgusting. Again STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE.

When I got there I asked the esthetician if the nail tools were sterilized and clean. As there was a language barrier, it was hard to fully understand what she said but she assured me they were clean. However they were not in packages and during the manicure she pulled out what appeared to be a make up case and grabbed additional cuticle clippers. As I had built a rapport with her I did not question it until thinking about it later on. Why would clean clippers be in a dirty bag?
In addition, the bowl she used to soak my fingers was collected where you keep the dirty dishes. When she was finished she simply rinsed it and placed it back where she had originally collected it raising many alarms in my head.
As a health care professional I am aware of the transmissions of infections and viruses especially hepatitis c. I would hope an establishment like this would follow proper sterilization techniques and procedures/​proper training of staff issued by public health and safety. However, to me it appears it lacks proper/​safe techniques and thus have put my health and all its other customers at risk.

I usually come in to get a treatment done for my hair and the people i get are usually very good and engaging. Or listening.
I went there and asked the receptioniist i wanted a treatement and light blow dry since my hair goes through a lot of damage as it is.
They never convey the message to the hair dresser he only washed it. I realized he had not put me under the heat or anything and i told i told the receptionist I wanted a treatment. He said oh i didnt know that and he goes over to the recpetionist to discuss. So he returns and begins the treatment all along he is very cold and as soon as my hair is done i tell him i want a light blow dry. Its as if he never cared and started pulling my hair for tangles in a very brutal way. His name is Andre the hairdresser. He then tells me to not pull my hair to one side he was trying to blow dry i tell. him to stop and he non chalently says fine. I go to pay and he charges me for a blow dry style total coming to 100 dollers. What a totall jerk he was.
none of them listened. I left very dissapointed with the treatement i got for his crappy day he must have had.
If anyone wants to try ANDRE i would suggest go to another hairdresser.

I had my roots coloured and asked for the colour to be pulled through. The stylist didn’t pull it through and it looks like a straight line basically in my hair. The worst part though is that someone else blow-​dried by hair and though he tried, he couldn’t fix my bangs which look stringy and bad from the last cut with the stylist.
The stylist didn’t check back with me in the end. At the cash register, I expressed that I wasn’t very happy but the receptionist said NOTHING. Didn’t even ask what was wrong. HORRIBLE customer service.

I was in a bit of a rush after work one day and needed to get my face waxed (eye brows and upper lip). I knew I would not have time to go to my usual place because it’s a good 10 min walk to the place and usually I always have to wait when I get their because they are pretty busy no matter what. I decided to try this place which is right beside my work. When I walked in the lady was friendly and told me it would be about a 15 minute wait for the esthetician. I was told to have a seat in the waiting area which I did. The area was comfy with big comfy chairs. Within minutes (maybe 5) I was called into the room.
The lady who serviced me was friendly, very chatty, and asked lots of questions about my expectations with the service. Before doing anything she confirmed exactly what she was going to do and asked me if that was ok. I thought that was amazing. I can’t even count the number of times I got for a clean up and walk out with a completely new look (which I didn’t ask for).
I felt this place to be a little small but welcoming in it’s appearance. I found the price to be really expensive. With tip it cost me double to get my face down. I guess that is the price you have to pay sometimes for convince! I was really shocked but had no choice I was stuck for time but next time I will shop around my work a little better strictly because of that.

I had a tough time finding it, it was in an underground mall across the street by Bay Station.
I chose this place because I was looking for a place to get my hair done with a groupon and the Unilocal reviews weren’t bad.
I wouldn’t consider this a high-​end salon by the looks of it, it was kind of dark and dusty, some of the chairs had cracks and cuts in them and it was a bit crowded. Their deep conditioning treatment I think was just putting conditioner in my hair, saran wrapping it and heating it up with a dryer. I’m not sure if that’s common but I imagined a deep conditioning treatment to be something a little… nicer.
However, Liz was very nice and gave me exactly the cut and style that I wanted. No complaints about the stylist but if they are charging $ 80 for a cut, style and conditioning they should put some of that towards sprucing the place up. I would pay the groupon price and come here again… just not for $ 80. :)

I have been here twice and I have had my hair done by the same person (Liz) and she is awesome! She takes her time and educates me on why she is doing what to my hair, and always makes sure she understands my needs before she starts the process. I hate when stylists think they know your hair better than you do, and then try to be «creative» and in the end leave you with a cut you detest! But not Liz. She always leaves me feeling happy with my haircut, and I specially like that when she says she is going to straighten my hair, and she actually does — not like other stylists who begin the process, get overwhelmed because, «damn, you have a lot more hair than I realized,» and then leave me with a «puffy-​straight» look that I have to wash the minute I get home.
As for the vibe and look of the place… leaves a lot to be desired. Considering that it is in a nice area (Yorkville), the salon needs a serious makeover. It feels like the place is falling apart! It irked me when I was having my hair washed, and I stared at the ceiling tiles that looked like they had barely survived a flood and an earthquake.

You know I’ve gone to a ton of different salons … And in the end it all comes down to whether or not you want to go back. That’s some combo of the environment, the service, the price and ultimately … Your hair.
For me Concepts has become that place. Todd does my hair (cut colour and occasions highlights). The place is not pompous, there’s no nasty vibe between the people sweeping the floor and the ones cutting your hair. Todd has a million stories to make the time fly and keep me entertained … And I feel like he is working really hard to make me look my best. The prices are very good especially for yorkville. My cut with colour is 129. And I am really happy with the way my hair looks. With Todd’s help I’ve been able to grow it out from a pixie to almost shoulder length without ever looking like I a as growing my hair out! Consistently good cuts and colour, friendly service, good prices. I’m sold.

I’ve been here a couple of times, and mostly because of a Groupon that I purchased the first time. I’ve always requested Xuan/​Sun who is a very friendly stylist, but knows her style/​techniques really well. I’ve gotten highlights (partial) done, and cuts as well, and they always turn out great. I asked her plenty of questions, from tips, styles, and recommendations, and her answers across very honest and not intended to upsell anything.
As for my Groupon experience, I was treated very courteously, and not like they expected me to be a one-​time customer only. The area is very clean, spacious with lots of magazines to keep you entertained. They are very punctual, and I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my stylist. It does get very busy so it’s something to keep in mind when booking your appointment.
No one tries to upsell me anything which is something I really appreciate. I was more than happy to purchase a few recommended products without any pressure. Groupon was $ 59 (Cut, partial highlights, and style). Taxes was around $ 7 and I always tip around $ 10-​ish (on the actual value of the Groupon). Great place and highly recommended!

I came here one day to have my hair styled for a semi-​formal evening event. I do not recall the name of my stylist, but she was not very good. She was not engaged, and when I asked her for suggestions, she was not very helpful or enthusiastic. The salon felt like more of an in-​and-​out shop rather than providing a spa-​like environment. The whole place is rather worn down and in need of a facelift, and the bathrooms could certainly do with a better cleaning job.
Overall I would not return as I paid the same amount for my style as I would have at a more upscale salon (e.g. Civello) and did not receive anywhere near the customer service experience that would have been provided elsewhere.

I went in about 3 months ago. Even though I had a little tiff with the hairdresser at first, my hair turned out exactly what I wanted. In the end she did listen. The space is not the best but they are friendly and know what they are doing. Will come back for sure!

I bought a Groupon and book with 60 Bloor location with a intermediate stylist. She was quite friendly and discussed with me before we cut the hair. The style she cut is not bad, however, the bangs is awful. There is no layer to park my bangs in the right position. I have discussed the awkwardness on the spot with her and pointed out that the bangs feel not right, but she just cut it shorter. I don’t know if this is a new trend to cut the bang or she is not experience enough to cut it properly. The bangs just annoy me a lot. :(

Bought a Groupon deal for a cut, conditioning treatment and style.
I was a fan! I had Morris and he was very friendly and pleasant.
The Groupon deal was $ 39 plus tax (extra $ 4?) and tip. Not bad at all compared to most places.
I was very pleased with my hair cut, he did exactly what I wanted and I may be a repeat client!

Okay, this was my third (and LAST) Groupon experiment with salon services. They were ALL disappointing.
Let me say first of all of that Concepts is not remotely a high-​end salon, and should not be charging the prices they do. This is a lower-​end salon, and you can see this just walking into the 60 Bloor St location. When I booked, the Groupon was for cut plus color, so I asked the receptionist how much more it would cost to also have highlights applied; the extra fee she quoted was NOT the fee that I ended up paying. I paid TWICE the extra fee, plus the Groupon cost – basically more than I would have paid at my usual reliable salon. (I’m so fed up with this Groupon situation – somehow or other it always costs more than you think, when it comes to salons, and I also think you’re not treated in a «premium» way if you’re there on a Groupon; you’re like second-​rate to them. Why bother – just pay a little bit more and get proper treatment at a proper establishment.)
My experience was almost totally identical to Anaizah H’s below, except I had a different stylist. I won’t disclose the stylist’s name, but this was not the work of a skilled professional, although they were very pleasant. I didn’t at all get what I wanted or what works for my situation – and it’s because the stylist had no clue how to work with the color in light of the various variables in my particular case (color history, etc), which a skilled colorist can sort out to a reasonable degree. It wasn’t even close to a reasonable solution for my needs – no skilled colorist would have gone for this look (or achieved it by accident or whatever this stylist was doing while pretending it was all according to a perfect plan). To boot, the cut is a weird choppy thing that I just can’t work with. I will have to get the colour re-​done (if it’s even possible to really fix now without ugly brassiness) and, well I have no idea what to do about the cut – wait for it to grow out, I guess.
ADVICE TO THE SALON OWNERS: Spruce up your location. Get your stylists and colorists to specialize in something rather than doing a little of whatever. Get them exposure to ongoing training, especially on color work. Don’t let inexperienced colorists touch a client’s hair unless you want to promote a low-​rent image for your salon, or at least charge way less (and keep them «junior») until they gain more expertise. Invest in professional development – it will help you keep clientele.

I go to the 20 Bloor St location to get my eyebrows waxed! Sumie gives me the perfect shape each time and knows how much to leave and how to take off! I often get complemented on my eyebrow shape! Well worth the price for me!

Great haircuts and beautiful massages

Today was my first time trying Concepts and I was scheduled with Liz. I had some old highlights that I was looking to cover up with a colour closer to my natural hair, as well as get a cut. I originally went in asking for a partial of low lights but after patiently speaking with me and getting a good understanding of what I wanted my hair to look like in the end, Liz offered me a completely different option that she felt would achieve the results I wanted in a much more effective (and healthier!) way.
She couldn’t have interpreted what I wanted any better, and she did an amazing job matching to my natural colour. I’m so happy she used her own judgement and suggested a different route than I had originally wanted. And throughout the whole process she was so friendly and did an amazing job explaining exactly what she was doing.
As for the cut, I’m always hesitant from a few bad experiences but again, after showing her a couple pictures of what I wanted, Liz nailed it! She also styled it perfectly to suit me — nothing too over the top.
All in all, I have never left a salon happier and will definitely be returning to Liz!

So my usual place was a bit packed so I came here as it’s right under where I live. I just came back from vacation and knew I had to get something done, as my hair was FRIED but my boyfriend HATES when my hair is short… Dilemma…Dead hair? Happy Bf?
I came in and saw Johnny, first he’s GREAT! Sweet sweet guy and what he did was cut it REALLY short i the back and left it long in the front (you know the style i’m taking about). He’s incredibly knowledgable in colour and I will be going back for a colour. ALL my friends have told me it looks amazing and my boyfriend LOVES it (and he REALLY REALLY hates short hair). He made me feel really comfortable and the way this man uses scissors is… just simply a show!
It’s a bit expensive, $ 60 for a cut… but honestly worth EVERY penny. The girls in the front are GREAT as well really knowledgable and sweet.
I may have found my new «I want to be spoiled» salon.
