Iyashi Bedrock Spa

Very upset to learn that the place has closed down without so much as a warning. What a way to reward your loyal clientele who supported you and bought large packages of sessions. Is there any way to recoup our losses or are we just SOL?

I was suprised this place is closed, unforately i paid cash and there’s no way for me to get back my money.
As i scroll down the comments, i believe the owner or manager’s name was norma p? What a ripped off. hate this happened

i bought crazy amount of session 2013 dec, so for me didn’t work out but hopefully i can give u guys tip.
also called consumer protection, they weren’t able to help me due to same reason.
they can help you in a year purchase.

I discovered this place only earlier this year and was addicted after my first rock bathing session. I find it very relaxing and LOVE the benefits I experience each and every time.
My interactions with the staff has always been a positive one. The place is very clean too but a little in need of an update.
I did originally find it a bit expensive and the packages available for purchase somewhat limited. I realized after shopping around that in fact they are very reasonably priced.
I hope I’m wrong but I think the place has gone out of business. Customers were notified that the spa would be closed for maintenance Oct 31^st & Nov 2^nd but I have not been able to book an appointment since. My calls, voicemail messages and emails have not been answered, their voicemail is now full and the website has been ‘under maintenance’ since then too. A sign outside their door indicates that they are closed for maintenance but I’m starting to find that hard to believe…

I took advantage of a Groupon offer for this spa for an hour hot rock session. Luckily today there was no one there but me so it felt like a private oasis!
As my first time trying this Japanese experience, it was explained to me what to do. They provide you a towel, disposable undies and a top/​pants made out of bathrobe material. They provide you with a locker so you can store your stuff and give you some green tea. The change rooms are bright and relaxing and are pretty spacious. There are 2 showers stalls only so I imagine when it’s busy it can get crowded.
You walk into the area for hot rocks and yes it’s hot — like one big sauna! The ‘beds’ are numbered so just find the one assigned to you. The towel is already put on the floor — right on top of the hot slab for lack of a better word. Then just lay down and relax (the staff will tell you the order in which to go — stomach, then back, then you can do your sides but you finish lying on your stomach). After 20 min they tell you to come back to the change room to hydrate with water and then go back in and continue your session. This is to ensure you don’t dehydrate. Very relaxing and I could feel my muscles loosening up.
The staff are friendly and the place is clean and looks well run. Try and make an appointment on a weekday as it will be way less busy then. It’s open 7 days a week. They also offer RMT massages and when you check in with Unilocal you get a free hot rock session with the purchase of a RMT massage
Will be back again!

PROS:
–The atmosphere is wonderful. The instructors are incredibly peaceful, and the front desk assistants are warm and friendly.
–Heated stones are incredibly relaxing! I usually go in about 30 mins before classes start, and end up falling asleep LOL.
–My hair feels amazing and my skin literally glows after class. I always make sure to remove any makeup I’m wearing before going in to ensure that I get the full benefits.
–It’s made me fall in love with hot yoga. Never thought it possible.
–I leave there feeling so spiritual and peaceful. It’s a wonderful de-​stressor.
CONS:
–The price. I was lucky to be able to access the spa through ClassPass, which includes 3 visits to Iyashi per month. Otherwise, the prices I see listed on the website aren’t exactly ridiculous, but they aren’t necessarily cheap either.
–The location. I don’t drive, and while I don’t mind the walk, others might. Its basically halfway between Eglinton and Lawrence station, so you’ll need to commit to either waiting for eons on the arrival of the 97 Yonge, or suck up the roughly 12 minute walk to the subway station.
I highly recommend Iyashi. They have found a faithful customer in me!

Fantastic spa in the middle of Uptown Toronto.
You go into the Spa feeling like one person and come out feeling like another. It is definitely worth upgrading to the Deluxe Suite with a friend or significant other for the best experience. I look forward to coming back again to this wonderful spa and hopefully trying one of the Hot Rock Yoga classes this time around. This place is wonderful! :)

I am a regular gym-​goer and I do all kinds of work-​out: yoga, kickboxing and dancing. I tried 90min hot yoga before, however I was aware that 90min length yoga is not my game. One of my girlfriends recommended me Iyashi. Given my oriental culture background, I am so into Zen and I decided to give a shot with groupon deal. ($ 185 for 6 weeks and $ 105 for 3 weeks)
I hope my review could help those who would like to try the classes:
1. Yin Yoga
This is my favorite. A lot of stretches and twists. It is not as intense as regular hot yoga. It just feels so great when you body wakes up in heat.
2. Pilates
I have pretty good core stability but Faye Li’s class is still too much for me. But I would keep going to improve.
In terms of the spa place, staff are very professional and nice. I love Norma!
The resting room is tiny but clean and tidy. I trust Japanese’s’ ability to keep a not that spacious room sanitary and pleasant.
Agree with some other reviewers, if you walk or take public transit, it would be an unpleasant walk in cold weather. And do not rush to the place, trust me, my heart got racing in the yoga class after I ran to the place to avoid being late.
One more thing I would like to say, Iyashi changes my lifestyle. I’ve started to eat less and healthier. Lost 3kg in the first week since I went to Iyashi. It is amazing!

Went here during spa week Toronto. BEST decision ever! Made RSVP roughly 1.5 weeks before the spa week. I didn’t actually think I would get a spot since Spa Week is so popular in Toronto and EVERYTHING was pretty much all booked up by that time. I called to make the appointment for 2, the guy answered and was super friendly on the phone, he said he will upgrade us to the deluxe room since we were going as couple. He even told us where to park for free parking!
When I got there, the place was clean, and the lady who was at the reception was very nice. She immediately knew who I was (since we made the appointment) She offered us tea, robes, slippers. Led us to the Delux room. Very private! It has a bathroom, resting area, and the bedrock room. It was very relaxing. We were told we only have one hour — which was fine.
I love the heat… the bedrock room was nice and hot in there, she did advice us to take breaks every 30 mins and ensure to hydrate yourself.
We took our time resting in the rest area — then took a shower. It was so relaxing and I absolutely will come back here! We got the Spa Week deal which was $ 55 per person. I would recommend for those who are interested — try it during the spa week, but make sure you book early! Space is limited.

I went on a spa blitz and tried five spas in a six-​day period. This was the beginning of my spa journey and I LOVED it. I purchased a 7-​day unlimited pass during the anniversary special and enjoyed this facility for five concurrent days. I spoke with one of the owners on several occasions. She is so nice and friendly and helpful. The facility is clean, but one day someone actually left used disposable panties on the table with their dirty towel. I would like to know why anyone would do this. Ladies, please clean up after yourselves. There is a trash can for the cups, the disposable panties and hampers for the used towels and bathing clothes. It’s not cool or hygienic to leave your dirty stuff on the magazines others would like to read as well as your used cups. This was the only day like that and no staff cleaned it up while I was there. Outside of that one day, the facility was clean and efficient.
Bedrock bathing is addicting, relaxing, and warming. It’s ladies’ only when there is no co-​ed yoga class in session, and couples can use the private room if they book a session together.
I still haven’t recovered from this very positive experience and will be back when I return to Toronto.

The Good: I got the chance to try it out because of their introductory offer. The first class (yin yoga) was definitely fun for the experience. It gets some getting use to at the beginning and there are 5 minute breaks after every 30 minutes to ensure you hydrate yourself.
The place is very clean with unlimited use of towels. The waiting area is quiet and lets in a lot of natural light, creating a peaceful environment. The staff is very friendly.
The Bad: The location is not exactly convenient unless you drive. Even though it’s right on Yonge, if you were to take the subway, walking from Lawrence will take about 15 min (10 if I speed walk). While I did this over the summer and don’t mind the walk, I don’t imagine that I would want to do the same during the winter.
It can feel like a novelty after a couple of classes and it does tire you out with out you even realizing it because of the amount of sweating you do! You need to pace yourself or you’ll quickly find that you’re making excuses not to go.
If you do the yin yoga classes, keep in mind their schedule. I was on holidays that week so I was flexible, but if you’re working, there isn’t an evening class for every day.
The Overall: Good to try at least once in your life! You really do feel like the toxins have left your body after the first session. But also know that you’ll be surprisingly tired since you’re body went through a detox.
Revisit: It’s pretty pricey to go if you’re buying their regular packages. Considering I went for the yin yoga classes, I’d choose a regular hot yoga studio instead since there’s variety of classes and it will cost less.

Bought a Groupon coupon for this place recently and used part of it today for a one hour session lying on the hot rocks. Initially, I was kicking myself that I didn’t go to Body Blitz Spa and immerse myself in water. But, after the first 20 minutes went by, and sweat was pouring out of every pore — I was a changed person. After an hour, I am determined to come back again, and soon. This place is well maintained, clean, bright, and perfect for an anytime detox. I’ll be baaaaaaack!

After living in Japan and going to Ganbanyuku’s there, I was super stoked to find one in Tarrahno! When I first inquired about the cost, I almost shat myself, but I was able to split the cost with my friend and get a package! In Japan it was about $ 10/​session with no time limit! I was a regular at one place and would pop in after a heavy week of drinking… yes week… felt amazing!
Iyashi does it’s best to imitate this experience and is the closest thang I get to my weekly detox. Overall, the place is relaxing and a great get away for an hour. I must tell you the underwear you get to wear SO SEXXY!!! Watch out ladies, you may be tempted to take these home and do some boudoir shots in em later!
The only think is that they have hot yoga classes that seem to be more important than regular hawt rawk sessions. We book the deluxe suite, but have on many occasion been told that our desired time cannot be accommodated due to them having to use the room for the men to change… HELLLOOOO…get another room for the men to change in!
We’ve paid over $ 300 for the sessions, work full time and can’t just come in «wheneva». I know the hawt yoga pays their bills but come on, time should be made for each customer to enjoy his/​her session.
As for the hawt yoga, I did it once. It was hot (obviously) and I surprized myself at my ability to do the «moves. However, the lady with tiny loose fitting short shorts, sat directly across from me, ruined it for me. In various positions (donno the names), her «lady lips”/hot box was quite visible…(barf in mouth).
Tip: if you do hot yoga, get some tight fittin shorts!
I continue to go to Iyashi as my package (hahaha) has not yet expired, however, I do not think we will be getting another one as the cost is just isn’t worth it… even thought one can get a free peepshow!

When I first began visiting Iyashi back in 2008, I would have given it 5 stars. There was no place like it for tranquility, relaxation and detoxification. I’ve purchased several packages over the years and have even sent a few friends there to try it out. Iyashi was very clean, the staff were courteous and professional– always having things ready when you arrived, very helpful at booking appointments and suggesting services. I always felt pampered and valued as a customer. However, I’m not very impressed lately. Now it seems like an uptown yuppie yoga spa that caters more to upselling you on detox drinks and lotions than providing a good service and a relaxing chill out session on the bedrocks.
Firstly, I think the Groupon offer ruined things a bit. It’s also a tad annoying to regular customers like me, who have been purchasing package deals at their regular price for years. Suddenly, they’ve become so busy with additional yoga classes and Groupon clients that they have to use the deluxe suite as a change room for any men who want to participate. So while yoga classes are in session (and there are a lot of them now), no regular rock bathing sessions can be booked. Originally, if there was yoga, you could still come in and book the deluxe suite with a friend. I understand the need for men to join in and have a separate space, but perhaps they could have built a small facility for them to change. The deluxe room is a huge space to waste for 2 hours while a couple of men take a yoga class. That coupled with Grouponers, the place is just not the same as far as tranquility goes.
Due to the influx of business, they’ve had to hire new staff. I’ve had appointments booked on the wrong day, e-​mail reminders sent on the wrong day and then no e-​mail reminders when I actually have an appointment. I’ve had to spend time calling them to make sure that my appointment wasn’t booked for a certain day and that I wouldn’t be charged for it.
Or when I call and say «I’d like to book for Thursday at 4:30», the receptionist will reply «I have 3 or 4:30″. Or „Do you want to come in at 5?“ Well– no. I’m calling for 4:30, and since it seems that you have it available, I’d like to book at that time, please.» Every time I’ve tried to book via e-​mail, It has taken me 6 back and forth e-​mails or more to pin down a time that I’ve been told is available. At one time, they changed my appointment time because someone else wanted that time spot??? It just so happened that I was on a tight schedule afterwards and could not shift my appointment more than 15 minutes… so they assumed that they could take the liberty of shifting my time by half an hour. I rearranged my plans twice for afterwards and then they confirmed it for a different time. It was a ridiculous cat an mouse game. Finally, Norma, the owner e-​mailed me to tell me that she had my original time available, but they’d had to call everyone on their schedule for the day and shift them. WTF??? The time I booked was available when I first called and now you’re letting me know that it’s a pain in the ass for you and all your other customers that you made a mistake. Definitely not relaxing.
It also seems that the cleanliness has gone downhill. Yesterday when I went in, there was all kinds of dirt, salt and grit on the floor in front of the entrance to the Gonbanyaku. The garbage can hadn’t been emptied from the people before. When I used to arrive, the would have a locker ready for me with my robe in it and a towel laid on the rocks. On several occasions lately, they haven’t been ready, despite not being busy and once the lights were not even on in the room.
I may sound like a compete princess, complaining about these small things but when I began coming here, everything was so wonderful and perfect. I got used to a very high level of service, which is one of the reasons I kept returning. It wasn’t just the treatment, it was the service and attention to detail. These things are really important to any spa experience It seems that they just don’t care as much – especially about long time clients. This place is not cheap to visit, even when you purchase their package deals, an hour session still costs about $ 20.
I would still say that this place is worth a visit. It’s not awful by any means. It’s just not what it once was and it’s sad to see. I may come back on a less frequent basis, but once my prepaid sessions are done I won’t be buying any more and I find it more of a hassle than a joy to make an appointment.

None of the RMTs I’ve ever had can compare to Emilia. You can tell she is skilled at what she does, and she makes you feel so wonderful during and after the massage. She really cares for her customers as well, once she spent a good 15 minutes explaining to me my problem areas, showing me stretching exercises and made sure I understand how to fix those problems. She’s super nice & easy to talk to, I’ve never gone to another RMT in the GTA since I’ve met Emilia.
I’ve tried the rock bathing as well, the price was reasonable as it was half off when coupled with a massage. It felt great, and I just loved how everything smelled so fresh and clean, the robes, towels, the rooms. The spa isn’t extravagant but it has everything you need, and I’ve never felt so tranquil and relaxed anywhere else, love everything about Iyashi!

It’s a neat concept but SO EXPENSIVE! I went during a groupon deal so it worked out to be about $ 20/​yoga class or rock bathing session. (It’s usually $ 50 + tax)
The first 2 yoga sessions — I believe I had it with Carmen. She was great and I fell in love with this place.
Then I had a class with Patricia who was a substitue and I am now completely turned off. She basically preached the ENTIRE class about «letting go of your disappointments… forgiving the ones that let you down.»…wow…shut up. I come here to destress — not have some random person talk to me about my emotions and what to do with them!
Other than that — if they lowered their prices and I carefully chose who my instructor was, I would be a regular.

Now this is a Spa.

Even from entering into the Spa, there is a sense of tranquility.
The large change changeroom, has lockers, a seating area, hot/​cold water station (with tea), 2 showers, 2 toilets, 2 changing stalls.
Inside your locker, you’ll find a pair of flip flops (the rocks are hot!), a small towel and a large one, and a paper cup (additional towels available upon request).
I went for the Yin Yoga class. This means you get half hour of rock bathing time, then a 5 min break. Then the class starts, and you get another break in between. They also encourage your to step out if you need to.
The heat in here is great, but I love hot environments. I found that for the rock bathing, lying on my yoga mat I couldn’t feel the heat. It was okay when doing the actual yoga, but I liked it better without a mat. Or bring a thinner one — the heat comes from the black rocks underneath.
After sweating buckets, coming out of the room was a gust of cold air. I’d like to see the room a little hotter to help with the transition.
I also booked an RMT massage with Lan. It’s up there, with one of the best massages I’ve ever had.
I’m going to come back here, and with my mom. It’s gentle enough she can handle it and would actually enjoy the experience.
There is free parking Mon-​Sat 8am-​6pm for 1 hr on the street north of the place (Lytton) It’s free after 6pm and on Sundays.

Hot! Hot! Hot! Doing a Hot Yin class at Iyashi Bedrock Spa is hot yoga to the extreme!
Thanks for Josephine C so kindly offered me to take advantage of one of her coupon deal, I able to experience how it feels to be cook and steam in a heated room.
The spa itself is clean and nicely appointed. 2 showers, 2 bathrooms and 2 changing stalls and everything you need: shampoo, body wash, hair dryers, towels and disposable slippers. You will need to wear those, because inside the heated room, it is impossible to walk on the heated surface with your bare feet!
The class itself was zen and slow, but didn’t make it easy as holding each pose while lying on top of the heat surface made me has this urge to just jump up and run out of the room yelling «I have enough!!!». Breathe… Breathe… Hot! Hot! Hot!
I will be back… when it is winter and outside feels like –20C… Just thinking about the snow, that would have cool me down!

Definitely recommended. Fantastic and relaxing experience. I went twice, once with my sisters and once with my SO. Both times for the hot Rock Yin Yoga. Yin is a slow and controlled practice of gentle stretching. My companions could all handle it, even with varying degrees of flexibility. The best part being that you get to wear your own clothes, and are encouraged to take breaks outside of the heat and drink water.
We visited on a weekend both times and it was busy. Everyone is quiet and relaxed however, so it is not bothersome. There are showers and generous sized change/​waiting areas. Everything is very clean.
The location is extremely inconvenient for me, which is the only drawback. If they opened a location closer to downtown or the east end I would purchase a pass for certain. Individual sessions are pricey, but they have a wide variety of packages and promotions. Follow them on twitter for specials.

I purchased a deal coupon which gets me three visits to Iyashi Bedrock Spa, and went with a friend for the first time on Monday night.
First, I was very impressed with the vibe and the staff. We were greeted by multiple staff members, who were all very friendly and calming. Any questions? Answered. Any problems? Solved, quickly and efficiently. I like!
Second, what’s a bedrock spa? It is a heated room with rock beds, each separated by a low partition. After checking in, you are led to your own locker which is filled with a cute little green shorts and button up shirt outfit and disposable flip flops. You drink some water, put on the outift, bring a towel, and lie down in your assigned cube. The stones are super hot, the air is hot, and it all melts away your stresses and sore muscles.
I really liked the experience. Our session was for 90 minutes but I can’t take the heat!!! They told us to exit the room every 20 minutes and drink more water. I only lasted 20 minutes the first time. Each consecutive visit was shorter. I went from 20 to 15 to 10 to done! And then I took a shower. Yes, they have showers too. Everything is super clean.
This was a very relaxing experience, and my muscles did feel better. Plus, my skin felt revitalized.
The room was not even half full. We saw three other customers when we were there between 6:15 — 7:45 on Monday night. It’s open until 9PM. I doubt you need to make an appointment far in advance for off hours. However, they only have a limited number of yoga classes, and those fill up weeks in advance. I did sign up for a hot yoga/​rock bathing combo in early May, and I am looking forward to that.
I think the regular sessions are pretty pricy. Best option seems to be to buy a package or a group deal. I would probably not purchase a package simply because of the location, It is halfway between Eglinton and Lawrence subways so not convenient for TTCers from downtown. Otherwise, good experience. I am excited to try the yoga!
