I have known the owners for years and always pop in there when I am in Korea-town. Her steamed royal mandu are delicious — pork mixture mixed with chapchae noodles and delicately chopped vegetables. Her pat-bang(red bean paste pastries) are delicious as well. Purchase the package of six with the sesame seeds on top and you won’t be disappointed. The place is spotless and the quality of her fare fresh. Reasonably priced. Never disappointing.

I was wandering on Bloor and saw what appeared to be steamed BBQ pork buns in the window of this Korean bakery… err… Korea Bakery. I guess I was being too presumptious in my Han Chinese chauvinism and I can’t assume they are Chinese BBQ pork buns just because they looked like them. The lady seemed a bit surprised someone walked in and bolted up from watching Korean dramas and greeted me. As I was browsing the goods, she was explaining to me in heavily-accented English what everything was. Unfortunately, I caught maybe half of what she was saying — but she seemed nice enough, so I bought some buns and pastries. The pop working the cashier till seemed really nice too. The pastries were pretty good(though, I have next to no experience with Korean baked good) but the wrapped buns were filled with bits of beef and glass noodles. Unfortunately, being wrapped up made the buns a wee bit soggy. So I didn’t like it. Oh well — will swing by again when I get the chance. For some reason, I really like the mom and pop working here.
