Lick It Gelato

I visited here on Saturday afternoon with a small group. At first, I couldn’t tell if anyone was there to take my order (there was a woman seated with her family and at first I thought, maybe she was the owner or other staff member, turns out no). A man appeared from behind the cash counter (was working on stuff on the back I guess) and took my order. I asked about sizing and if I could buy two flavours in one cup. He said normally they don’t allow it but granted me my request. I ordered Mango and Stracciatella and they were both so good! I actually wanted the small size but he gave me the kiddie size (which is even smaller than «Small» — I should have been more clear).
I think I enjoyed the Stracciatella a bit more than the Mango (thought it’d be the reverse). Admittedly, I’m not that experienced with gelato but I found this to be very good (definitely not ice cream). I’ve visited another place selling «gelato» and it was really ice cream — super disappointing but not this place! Heads up: This place is not good for groups (very small inside), also for some reason, it was *very* warm inside. I’m not sure if this high temp is the norm but it makes for some uncomfortable queuing and probably dining in. Also, they take debit (probably credit also) which is great for convenience reasons. For the kiddie size, it came to $ 4.46 (I think it’s $ 3.95 plus tax). Again, I’m not well-​versed with gelato especially in this city so I don’t know if this was a good price although because it was so good, I wish I had the bigger size. I will definitely be back when I’m down by the Harbourfront. Great stuff!

If you’re taking a stroll on harbourfront, THIS is the perfect accompaniment to your day. Lick It Gelato is a small shop but is big on flavour. It’s a modest selection but there’s some pretty interesting flavours like Earl Grey, Salted Caramel, Pistachio, etc. The only downside is that because flavours are always changing, you don’t want to get toooo attached to one.
It’s $ 3.95 for a small, which gets you two good scoops in two flavours of your choice. Super reasonable, can’t recommend it enough.

It took us a while to find this place without a gps on our phone… but once we did everything worked out! There were a lot of options and everything tastes great! The girl working there let us taste whatever we wanted and was really sweet altogether! Would recommend to anyone walking down by the Harbor.

This place is small shop along Harbourfront with little indoor seating — 2 small tables and a bar table window that seats 4 – 5 people, and some chairs outside the shop.
I had the hazelnut, pistachio, salted caramel and mango gelato. They were all very good. I loved hazelnut and pistachio the best. The nut flavours really came out here and I loved that the pistachio tasted roasted too. I wish the served more flavours!
One of the best I’ve had in Toronto.

Ice cream and boardwalks are a match made in heaven. It’s surprising that there aren’t any ice cream options at Harbourfront open later in the evening (apart from a kiosk selling candy, pop, and individually wrapped Drumsticks and popsicles), but fortunately Lick It Gelato is close enough that I could run across the street and grab a cup in the same time as it took my friends to get the food they’d ordered. The gelato was a bit icy and the flavour wasn’t as strong as I’d like, but the hazelnut gelato still hit the spot and was a great option on a warm summer day.

A very great place. I love how convenient the shop is. When I first visited, they had a variety of flavours to choose from and I didn’t know which to get. If you’re unsure of the a flavour, they’ll give you a little sample of it to try. They do sell out of flavours fat but they’ll take out the empty try and put in another flavour very quickly. Definitely my new favourite gelato place.

Amazing gelato. Great location, lots of things to do around here! I got the honey lavender, chocolate banana, and hazelnut gelatos and highly recommend all three. The medium size is plenty, as you get 3 heaping scoops of gelato. Not too expensive and worth every penny. Highly recommended!

Great stuff! Some flavours you don’t generally see in gelato (peanut butter, watermelon), great value, friendly service.

The gelato was very creamy and delicious. I had a scoop of raspberry and one of chocolate. The combination of tart and sweet was very good. My husband had the mixed berry and he really enjoyed his also. It was great to step outside, have a seat facing the harbourfront and enjoy our gelato in the middle of a beautiful city.

Lick It Gelato’s a somewhat recent addition to the Queen’s Quay neighbourhood. They have a few flavours that are fairly consistent but I’ve noticed that they’re always trying new ones. At a previous visit, for example, I had the pleasure of trying their Earl Grey gelato for the first time. With flakes of what I presume to be tea leaves, I ordered a scoop without sampling it first. It was amazing. It was like someone had taken all the flavour from a hot piping London Fog and infused it into an amazing frozen treat.
Asides from Earl Grey, I’ve been back several times now and have been able to try many of their flavours. These are some of my favourite:
— Earl Grey (rating: A) see above, it’s like London Fog in a gelato form
— Banana/​Avocado (rating: A+): sweet and creamy. They both complement each other exceedingly well
— Chocolate Mint (Rating: A-​): Chunks of chocolate and real mint leaves! Really refreshing
— Orange (Rating: A-​): It’s like a meaty sorbet with real chunks of orange.
— Peach (Rating: A-​): Same as the orange, the peach is refreshing with chunks of peaches
The downside is that the availability of the flavours is inconsistent because they’re always changing. It’s like playing the lottery every time I go, although at the very least, you feel that you’ve won the Encore when they don’t have the flavours you want.
Lick It Gelato is what it is: a consistently good gelato place with decent prices. I haven’t tried their sandwiches or pastries but perhaps on another visit.

Just happened to be in Toronto the other day doing classic tourist-​y things downtown and after a quick bite to eat the primal need for dessert bubbled up within all of us. Being the warm summery day it was, ice cream was the perfect choice, and it’s a good thing it was because after not too much of a walk we bumped into Lick it Gelato up on the water!
It’s a small little ice cream parlor that has maybe 10 different flavors that rotate daily along with coffee and some small desserts, and it just so happened that we all opted for gelato. We got Lemon, Lemon Basil, Strawberry, Chocolate Hazelnut, and Salted Caramel and some had some really big wow factors. The lemon basil was especially awesome. So, so delicious. You got the vibrancy from the citrus but also that perfect bit of basil to add a perfect savory element. If only there was shortbread with it it would’ve been the most perfect cold sweet I’ve had in awhile. I probably finished it faster than any of my friends finished theirs.
That said, there was one big disappointment for me — specifically the Strawberry gelato. I don’t know what they used to make it, but it just tasted fake. Strawberries are in season right now and maybe that’s why it was so shocking when I tasted it and got this extreme burst of artificial flavor. It just was not what I was expecting at all.
Unfortunately because of this dubiousness stuck in my mind, it forces me to question how many other flavors may also be artificial — in the counter they also had grape and watermelon and somehow I have nothing but a big question in my mind about those after trying the strawberry gelato.
The lemon basil was delicious though so I think so long as you go with a citrus or a flavor that doesn’t have other fruit flavors (like chocolate hazelnut!), you’ll probably be OK!

Where to start? So much goodness in one spot!
Gelato:
incredible! I always say I am going to get something different but usually end up with the salted caramel. They will let you sample but beware you may end up getting one of every flavour.
Sweets:
ohemgee. The 7 Layer Bars are the stuff dreams are made of. Now that I’ve said that I hope they stock up — I would hate to go to find them sold out!
Sandwiches:
Ummm, fresh bread makes a sandwich and this place has it. Try the green apple and brie, during the winter the turkey with cranberry infused goat cheese was my standby.
Soups:
layers of flavour, hearty and just plain good.
Staff:
Always smiling and professional. Lovely people!
Coffee:
quite possibly the best in the city — Monday and Friday it’s $ 1
If I had a complaint it would be that they’re not open early in the morning. I’d love to stop in before work for a coffee but they’re not open when I walk past. It’s too bad because their coffee really is the best.

OMG. Just had the honey lavender gelato. Amazing! It’s very floral but oh so delicious. I’ve been popping in every now and then since last summer but I think I may become a regular solely for their honey lavender gelato.
Service is always friendly and they offer samples. You can get any size as take away with a lid and … they have a loyalty card! Seriously. I love incentives for my repeat business and I definitely will come back repeatedly to enjoy the gelato.
Ps — they also have sorbets for those that are dairy free and a dog friendly pb & banana flavour for your four-​legged friend

You know how there’s always that neighborhood joint that you love close to home? The one you go to every time you want something? The one that makes you say «ah it’s nice to be home»? Lick It Gelato is that shop for me.
3 reasons: The owners, the space and the products.
I love indie coffee shops and gelato parlors in general, and the owner is a great example of why. I got to know him one morning and heard about how he wanted to create a small local shop that serves a smaller number of people well vs a characterless shop that serves a high number of people in a mediocre way. He’s very particular, everything is considered and when you’re a patron in his shop, it’s his experience you’re getting (and it’s a great experience). He put time, money, care and effort where it matters, from the gelato equipment to the coffee machines, the pastry selection, the décor, etc. Ask him about any of them. There’s a story, there’s reason and there’s thought behind everything. Also ask him about the music. There’s a story behind that too.
The result is a space that’s great to sit, drink & work out of, serving unique, delightful and delicious one-​of-​a-​kind products. Lick It Gelato makes my morning every time I go!

My reviews now both few and far between are rather sounding much like a one-​trick pony… That said, perhaps I am just a crazy person. But this place serves cold, creamy, sensual deliciousness in a cone or cup.
I’m not made of money, and nor do I have the same metabolism I had when I was a 20-​something, otherwise every day would end at this place.
Fresh fruits, nuts, rich chocolates, flavourful coffees all wind up in the magical freezing contraptions to give you a frozen bowl/​cup/​cone pure of bliss.
Call me crazy? I’m cool with that.

Had the strawberry, blueberry yogurt and apple pie gelato in a medium cup. It was delicious, tarty, and colourful.
Strawberry — bright red and not that pale strawberry that you’re used to seeing. A bit tart flavoured.
Blueberry yogurt — had a distinct tarty yogurt taste which is good.
Apple pie — also a bit on the tarty side. I think I’ve had better ice-​cream versions, but it’s still good.

A very good gelato place in the neighbourhood when you are fed up with the fat creamy over-​sugared artificial flavoured baskin robin or queen’s quay ice cream store and are too lazy to go uptown.
You can taste that gelato is made of natural and good quality ingredients. I tried peach and lime and will soon try other flavours and update my rating accordingly.

I call it the little hidden gem of our neighborhood. For those who haven’t discovered it yet — and I mean discovered, because of the little nook it is tucked away in — the tiny dessert shop is at 250 Queen’s Quay very near the Thai restaurant on the North side of Queen’s Quay. This is one of the new additions to the hood and certainly a good one. The owners, also neighborhood folks have picked a great staff. Really friendly. And great range of products. Fridays is usually a $ 1 coffee day. And so worth it. The best part is that they open early, 8AM and close late, midnight, making it a great pick-​up-​a-​beverage-​on-​the-​way-​to-​work or drop-​in-​after-​dinner, kind of place. And guess what for you dog lovers out there? There’s a special bow bow treat, banana peanut butter gelato.
So what’s on the menu? Really unusually flavoured icecreams, gelato, soups and sandwiches, beverages, cakes and muffins. Though the dig opened in the late Fall last year, it is quickly becoming a local hang out — watch out SPoT and Dairy Queen. I think this one is definitely here to stay. Check it out and you’ll know why.

I am in love with this little shop. I love the decorations of the store and the staff are ALWAYS very friendly and knowledgeable about their products.
I went back to Lick it Gelato to try their mochas. The day I went (Friday) was a $ 1 coffee day so they just charged me extra for a flavour shot. The mocha was not too sweet. The combining flavours of coffee and chocolate are my absolute favourite and to have it served in a warm drink during the winter season is a comfort I yearn for in this cold weather.
I did not find there to be an overbearing bitter taste or bitter after taste from the espresso that some mochas tend to have but instead there was an equal balance between the chocolate and coffee– which is exactly how I like it. No whipped cream on top but I wasn’t sure if this was something extra you had to ask for. It still tasted good without it.
If you are ever near the harbourfront and are looking for a hot and rich beverage to keep you warm try their mochas!

There is a dearth of decent dinning spots on this stretch of water front. This situation is complicated even more as one is at a loss to find something that’s open late and has something to curb one’s late night cravings for dessert.
They seemed to have nailed it as they are open till midnight and location covers this neighborhood well.
Few hitches though their sign needs to be more prominent as its a bit obscure and if one didn’t know of this spot it can be easily missed altogether.
Ah well I walked here soaking wet not knowing what to expect. The setup is nice with chalk written menu and the Gelato/​Sorbetto displayed nicely. There is a good selection of coffee/​tea drinks though I didn’t try any. There is also a selection of other desserts such as cup cakes and cookies.
I just went for the raspberry as I wanted to cleanse my palate after a big meal. Partners in crime ordered a chocolate, salted caramel, peanut butter and pumpkin scoop.
The raspberry was OK not great as I felt the flavor wasn’t as intense I would have liked. From the tasting bite I got I liked the salted caramel and pumpkin flavors.
Chocolate was ho hum.
I will be back for sure and will try their espresso drinks on the next visit.
Update: I tried the cappuccino and it is just average. I prefer one of the main chain’s offering.
