We didn’t enter the shop, we just purchased ice pops. Got the Coconut which was very creamy and refreshing. My husband got the watermelon and he quite enjoyed it. It had real watermelon and was just sweet enough. There was a variety of flavours and I am eager to try the apricot yogurt pop next time.

I am such a big fan of this little hamlet of a store located in the Distillery District. The products they carry are all high quality and local artisans. That being said, the prices are a bit steep. Some key products they carry are Kitten and the Bear jams, Laura Slack chocolate, in addition to Sloan loose leaf Tea. They do offer a small take out counter for some tea beverages, but they’re more like a store that just happens to have a take-out tea counter — as there is no seating area to sit down and have a cozy conversation. The store footprint is pretty cozy, but gives you enough to explore and browse. The service is pretty friendly and they are pretty knowledgeable about the products they carry. It’s worth checking out this, if you’re looking for something uniquely Toronto as a hostess gift for the holiday season.

True to its name, Maisonette is literally a small space within one of the historic buildings at the Distillery District. What got my attention was a sign hanging from their only window shouting out an alluring message — handmade ice pops! They have a wide assortment of flavours such as grapefruit, watermelon, cucumber, white nectarine, and mojito. They also have cream based frozen bars. The white nectarine ice pop contained yogurt and it tasted like something you would get at Yogen Fruz. The minty mojito ice pop had a nice tartness to it and had a great lime flavour. Looking around, Maisonette also sells locally owned and locally made products such as jams, honeys, maple syrups and short breads. In addition, they have a whole display dedicated to luxurious loose leaf teas and items from Laura Slack, a Toronto based artisan chocolatier. Maisonette has the chocolate artists’s signature Dulce de Leche skull too! In all, Maisonette is a fun place to pick up some unique sundries and is worth a look!
