Opticianado

When your boyfriend is on the verge of tears because his awesome vintage glasses have just broken in the worst possible place (in the middle of a hinge), take them promptly to Opticianado.
This shop out in the Junction specializes in a pretty cool line of vintage eyewear. They have a great stock of trendy and unusual frames and a real passion for helping the customers. More importantly to me, they were the only shop I found in Toronto that could do a fairly tricky repair on his vintage glasses.
My journey to Opticianado began at the neighbourhood optical shop, which just laughed when I brought them in. Through asking around and some friendly Unilocaler suggestions, I visited no less than 6 shops before landing at the penultimate stop on my journey, Made You Look Jewelry in Parkdale. The super-​helpful owner there decided this repair was probably just beyond the scope of her technicians and gave me a helpful referral over to Jordan at Opticianado.
Yes, their prices are expensive but this reflects both the rarity of their stock and the quality of their workmanship. The glasses were beautifully repaired.
Thanks to the friendly and helpful staff here, the boyfriend is once again both happy and trendy.

I stumbled across this place on my way to dinner, and immediately fell in love with their frames. They have a great selection of vintage and one of a kind pieces. The owner is a licensed optician, who is very knowledgable and friendly. I purchased a unique pair of glasses that one of the frame stylists picked out, and I couldn’t be happier. I highly recommend this place for their frames, and customer service. No need to shop around for glasses, I promise you will find a frame that will fit your face and your style.

Seeing Opticianado at the top of so many glasses shopping lists — plus seeing a really cute pair of frames in the window — I finally decided to go in. I am a sucker for opticals with really niche selections of glasses!
Staff were really friendly, and encouraged us to try on a whole bunch of frames. I don’t know what it was, but none of the frames, despite their careful curation — really excited me all that much. Everything seemed to be either too outlandishly trendy, or somewhat bland. Maybe it was just the mood I was in that day! Based on everyone else’s reviews, I suspect that had I engaged with the staff more, I would’ve been won over.

I’m new to this whole glasses thing. I don’t have a wide selection of experiences to base my findings on, though the majority of my bespectacled friends suggested Opticianado without pause. So let’s go with that, shall we?
I checked out quite a few shops prior to going into Opticianado, and I’m glad I did. I can say that Opticianado has very knowledgeable staff, and a selection of frames that while they are by no means cheap, they are all high-​quality and worth the money. The folks working there were really great, and really let me explore the store, occasionally showing me a pair of frames they thought I might like. I eventually went with the Bevel Mate. Best of all, the turn-​around is only a few days, so this has me excited for my early birthday present (to myself, from myself — my favourite person!).
No real complaints, other than the lack of what I might refer to as ‘go-​to’ eyewear brands. However, they specialise in vintage deadstock frames, so that new pair of Ray Bans are better sought after elsewhere, though you could just as easily find something comparable in the store!
Check ‘em out. They’re worth a trip out to the Junction, before hitting up Bunners for some snacks.

I couldn’t ask for a better glasses buying experience. I didn’t have a clue what style I wanted but the owner kept handing me pairs to try until I narrowed in on what we agreed looked good for my face. When I said I liked a pair but thought the frames were too expensive, he found a similar and cheaper pair. The owner explained all about the history of some of the brands I was trying on. Even though my partner wasn’t intending to buy a pair they handed some for her to try too, just for fun. I got undivided attention and time to compare by myself when I wanted it. There was also a live-​band and free snacks that day, but that was purely a coincidence.
If you’re looking for something different from the average joe’s optical (they didn’t carry any of the standard designer brands I had seen at my opticians), this place is a must visit. Of course you’re going to pay more for deadstock vintage glasses, but they have a huge selection so you’ll be sure to find something.
I bought my glasses on Sunday and they were ready on Thursday. I’ll be recommending this place for sure.

Amazing selection of original and unique frames tucked away in the Junction! I never would have thought I would buy blue and red frames, but the vintage pair I got here are amazingly funky!!! The owner is super helpful and has a true passion for his work. It shows. Even though my optometrist office screwed up and gave him an OLD prescription of mine, he was super cool about fixing it up. Can’t go wrong here. Not a cheap place, but it shows :)
