Pet Pointe

Great local pet store for the Mystic Pointe community, having recently bought a pooch we unknowingly did a lot of our shopping in advance at some of the larger big box pet stores. After my visit today, I wish I could return everything I bought from the other store and purchase everything here.
I brought my little guy along with me and we had the chance to meet Barby who was working today during the day. Opie (the dog) had rolled in some poo that morning and we realized with all our planning we hadn’t purchased a comb or shampoo yet.
Barby was super friendly and extremely informative. While they didn’t have a no-​tears style of puppy shampoo she did make a strong recommendation for an alternative which was gentle and fragrance free. I was also looking for the new fad in hair grooming appliances called the ‘fur-​minator’ which is highly toted on all the puppy blogs and sites. Barby advised that I save myself the $ 50+ and go with something a little easier on the coat such as the Zoom Groom by Kong. She explained that many groomers don’t agree with the fur-​minator as it can chop the hair, also the zoom groom is good for helping to scrub your puppy in the bath. Sold!
On our first visit we also learned that by joining their puppy club (for free), we also get 15% off our entire order as well as a big bag of sample treats, the full «idiots guide to puppies» some much needed lavender scented poop bags, and more (see picture).
The best thing was that when I explained some of the things our vet-​tech was trying to push on us (namely Royal Canine dog kibble, when we’re doing a raw dog food diet), she agreed that WE were in fact doing the right thing and that most clinics incentivize the staff to get your dog hooked on their brands. We were unsure if we should listen to the breeder or our vet, but after speaking to Barby we knew the breeder was the way to go!
Thanks again for an awesome first shopping experience and Opie (aka Optimus Prime) is looking forward to his next visit to Pet Pointe in Mystic Pointe!

I walked in with my two dogs to inquire if they carried a specific brand of grain free food. They didn’t have it… The shop is pretty small, so there was only one staff member working. When I asked him if they carry the food in question, he became visibly irritated and started lecturing me with very veeeeeeery pretentious and condescending attitude. He was trying to sell me on a brand they did carry, and was constantly implying that I am not being a good dog owner by feeding my dog what I currently feed them. However, he was very misinformed — both foods are grain free, high in protein and both have pretty much identical ingredients and price tag. He wasn’t being knowledgable, he was just bashing the competition, which is never the way to sell a customer to a new product.
He never offered to order some in for me or to find me something similar, heck he never even got up from his chair from behind the counter!!! Not to mention that he expresses ZERO interest in my dogs or their needs!
I usually go the Pet Valu just down the street, they carry everything this store does and more, cheaper prices, they also always treat my dogs like paying customers, give them treats and samples, want to pet them and engage them in the shopping process, and of course treat me with respect!
This was my first experience and Pet Pointe and it’s safe to say my last! From this experience I have made some conclusions — that the place is not well stocked, the staff is not knowledgable, not friendly and they don’t care for my business. If they did, they would have their staff get up from their chair when a customer walks in and be polite and respectful, not sassy and condescending.
My dogs and I have many doggy friends in the neighbourhood and I will be sure to pass this feedback along to all of them.

We’ve been shopping at Pet Pointe for a few years now and would never take our business anywhere else. It’s a pretty good-​sized store where pets (and humans) can take their time shopping. You’ll often see many varieties of furry people trying on clothing! Barby and her husband are so friendly, knowledgeable and always willing (as another reviewer mentioned) to go the «extra mile.» They have a good variety of pet food, treats, clothing and other cute little things. We recently purchased dog snow boots for my two border collies! Barby simply said, if they don’t fit, just return them! They really care about animals and often foster dogs from the States and are involved in that horrific the Soi Dog Foundation/​Stop The Dog Meat that goes on in Thailand. They even send around monthly newsletters to all their customers. I would strongly encourage south Etobicoke to support this local business rather than the big chains like Walmart and Petsmart.

I have a fat cat (but so cute!) and they were helpful suggesting a food with less filler and why that might be more helpful for her than a «diet» food. I like the «mom and pop» style instead of chain stores – kind of like eating local and organic. I appreciate their advice because they’ve done all the reasearch for me, so they make it easy. And it’s right around the corner from my friend’s place so I can kill two birds with one stone.
