My girlfriend needed a haircut and she wanted to go to Toni & Guy. I had never heard of Toni & Guy prior to that day but I figured why not drive downtown and check this place out. I went to park the car as my girlfriend went inside for her appointment. Parking was insane, especially on a weekday! As I walked to the salon, I liked the location — primarily because it was right across the street from the ROM! Awesome! My first impressions going into the salon — it seemed pretty nice and I was offered a cappuccino/tea or water?! I don’t get this at my regular place, this is some classy s*it. My girlfriends appointment was for 2pm but it took them a while to get her in. By 2:20pm, they were washing her hair. Everything from here was pretty quick and the guy cutting her hair did everything the way she wanted it. Came out looking amazing! The haircut was a little on the expensive side though.

This is going to be harsh. If ever their was an example to charge more for attitude even though your stylist are not better than anywhere else this is a perfect example. I tried Toni and Guy on a friends recommendation. I usually mention friends name but in this case I wont. It was a total disappointment from the time I entered the door until the door hit me in the butt on the way out. The stylist wasn’t the worse, but he was no better than most. The have confused customer service with attitude and attitude just doesn’t cut it with me. I equate attitude with a used car sales person saying trust me. If you are good, you don’t need attitude. The friend that referred me to this place, then tried my place around the corner and he loved my place and made a switch. I also tried the Toni Guy in Hong Kong and it was exactly the same, ordinary stylist paying a price to rent a chair regardless of qualification. Its the culture… it works for them I’m sure but I’m not sure who would be a customer here long term… Why do people come back here…

I went to Toni&Guy with my long and boring har. I had an appointment with Siavash. And I got the best haircut ever! I just told him I wanted something different, something new. We decided on a bob. I got soo many compliments afterwards. Everyone loved my new haircut. I felt like a new person completely. He also did highlights and this was perfect as well! Sadly I had to move somewhere else and it’s really hard to find such a good hairdresser again.

Toni & Guy is where it’s at! Honestly, I went in there not knowing what to expect. All the staff seemed super cool, laid back and very professional. I went in with a Groupon I had purchased wondering if I would get subpar service compared to those without a groupon, absolutely not, these guys are bang on when it comes to service! I was treated just as every other client. They really work as a great team there. I was always attended too, offered coffee, tea, water & magz several times. I had Michael(Art Director II& Technical Creative Director is what’s listed on the biz card) who did colour and highlights. He asked lots of questions and I showed him a pic of what I was looking for in terms of colour. It turned out wicked, I was really happy with it, he definitely knows his stuff and has been in the industry for a long time. On top of his skills, he’s a super cool guy! For my cut & style, I was turned over to Irene(Art Director II is what’s listed on the biz card). This part I was really unsure of what I was looking for other then the fact I was looking to keep the length… but, wanted something that would compliment me of course. Well, I got lucky again! Irene asked lots of really good questions about my everyday lifestyle and how I where my hair and gave different suggestions… very impressive Irene! She also nailed it and I have me a awesome cut! One of my things was I had lost my luscious thick hair years ago and it has thinned out even more so over the years along with my medical complications. The cut she gave me makes it appear like I have thick hair again. My husband couldn’t believe it when he say me. So pleased what can I say! Irene has also been in the business a very long and in fact also worked at the Tony & Guy in Ireland for some time. She is very sweet and a great chatting companion! Reception was always a pleasure to deal with, at time of booking, when I called to notify them I’d be a tad bit late(sorry :&), when I showed up, through out my visit, and upon my exit, etc. Please don’t leave Michael & Irene because I look forward to having you both again! Thanks for«brightening» up my day! =D. Would I go back? Absolutely! Would I recommend? Absolutely! Would I say it’s worth the cost? Definetly worth the cost with the Groupon(esp when living on a single income) As for the regular prices according to their website, I’d have to price it out, cross my fingers & hold my breathe!

I came here with a Groupon, which I’ve found can lead to good or bad experiences. My experience at Toni & Guy was great. Despite the Groupon, they treated me like any other customer. Due to a scheduling glitch, I actually got my hair cut by Alessandro, the Creative Director! He gave me a great cut and I will certainly be going back there for my next appointment.

Best place for a haircut in the city. Period! I’ve been going to this place for the last 2+ years and my stylist Max is da man! Every so often I go to another place to refresh my memory of just how good he is. Every haircut and every customer is treated extremely well. Never rushed. It is true that I have waited in excess of 15 minutes with an appointment, but they provide great care for all their customers. They also do complementary neck trims, which allows for a quick cleanup a couple weeks into the haircut. All the stylists genuinely seem to like what they do and although this place is a bit pricey, it is still cheaper than the neighbouring salons. This place does get busy tho, so an appointment is highly recommended! You have been warned that you will be hooked and no other haircut will measure up once you start visiting this joint! UPDATE: Max has left Toni & Guy and started up his own place. Its called Kamiya Hairdressing( ).

I have been coming here for a while now since my hairstylist, Kait, moved from her last salon. I get regular trims and colour. She’s great! She’s really sweet and professional. She actually listens to my requests. I’ve never had a hairstylist that gets it bang on every time. I’m so happy to have found her! The salon is conveniently located near Yorkville. It’s nice, clean and the staff are always welcoming and courteous. UPDATE– Kait has moved to a lovely salon called Salon Solis just south of Bloor on Yonge.

I have had 3 different stylists work on me at this particular Toni & Guy location. I contemplated writing 3 reviews, but that would be a bit excessive. My first stylist is no longer there, but he was an Art Director II. His name was Paul. I had come here for my very first haircut with T&G prior to a company Christmas Party and I absolutely loved my hair. I had shown him a picture of Jessica Simpson’s haircut when she was promoting her cosmetics line, Dessert Treats. It is a longer bob cut.(See photos of Jessica Simpson, and photo of me in blue dress with the actual cut). I had always gone to my Chinese hair salons — never paying more than $ 25 for a haircut, but found that I was growing tired of them using what I would call«comb razors» to layer my hair. I found it gave me split ends. Consequently, when I was booking a hair appointment, I was notified that Paul was no longer there but that I could book an appointment with the owner Sandro(Alessandro) for the same price. Sandro did a great job with my hair also, but I found that he didn’t style it quite as nicely as Paul did. But with my first 2 stylists, they both listened to what I want. This past week, I went back to Toni & Guy with a voucher in hand, and unfortunately it specified that I’d have to go to an Art Director I. I showed them the exact same picture, but look at the difference! Was he blind AND deaf? Firstly, I said I want it to still be shoulder length. The result of my cut was that it barely grazed my shoulders. I have never had my hair this short ever since I became of legal age and had rights to choose my own hairstyle(not like in my childhood when mom would take me to the hairdresser and tell them to give me that mushroom head haircut!). I should’ve known he was an amateur stylist when he pre-warned me «Its not going to look exactly like that because her haircut is purely styling and blowdrying.» Everything from the way he moved around me while I was cutting my hair, to the way he had to «measure» out whether or not he cut both sides evenly made me nervous, but still I braved on. In all fairness, I hated my haircut at first, it was not what I wanted at all… But 2 days after my cut, I started to like it. So therefore I can’t say it was an entirely bad experience: p

Toni and Guy is a little pricey, yes,(hence the 4 stars) but for me it all comes down to the hairdresser. I’ve been going to Jo for a few years now and she is absolutely fantastic. She really listens to what you want and is freakishly good at remembering what you’ve done in the past — so you’re never starting back at square one. She’s also super friendly and can carry on a great conversation, no matter what mood you’re in. The Toni and Guy experience is perfectly pleasant. They offer you tea while you wait and I’ve never waited longer than 10 minutes(usually shorter) to be seen when I had an appointment. But the real treat is the shampoo scalp massage. Why don’t all salons do this? It turns a routine errand into something I actively look forward to. Pure bliss. My hair always looks fantastic when I walk out of Toni and Guy and it stays that way for weeks — the real test of a good cut. I can’t vouch for the other stylists, but ask for Jo and, I assure you, you won’t be disappointed. Cost: $ 60+tip.

It makes no sense for me to spend so much money on my hair. I’ve had 2 separate long term stylists(well art directors as they are called here) work on me and 2 others I tried out after my first stylist left. Those 2 were both female and I had a feeling they just didn’t quite get what I was going for. Like I mention in another review, I’ve not had the greatest luck in females working on my hair. The only reason I started coming here was to break out of my cycle of growing my hair till it was close to a mini afro and cutting it back down again. My mission was successful and I came out with a nice little fo-hawk. I was overwhelmed on my first trip as most things were new to me in terms of a haircutting experience. It was the first time I had spent over $ 16 on my hair and boy did I spend more than $ 16. I’ve had final prices between $ 50 and $ 70 here and each time it did not feel worth it. But it’s so hard to say no to the comfort and fruity and flowery smells all around! Once you settle in with a stylist I’m 90% certain they keep a record of you so all they have to ask is «same as last time»(like I said, I was new to this fancy world of hair styles). It was nice to talk things out with my art director when he talks about my hair, what can and cannot be done and how to maintain it since it was useful information for me that no professional had provided until that point. Here’s a quick rundown of the process. They take care of your bag/jaket, dress you in a black robe of sorts, offer water or coffee(of which I always ask for a water), sit you down to discuss the cut, send you to the washing basin where your hair is nicely shampooed and conditioned giving your nose a huge treat in all these fruity fresh smells, back to the chair with water already there. Cut happens. Back to the washing basinand more nose pleasing sensations, back to the chair for the final touches. I’m sure a lot if not all other fancy salons do the same or more, but it was definitely enjoyable. And if you have a steady director, you can always go in between cuts for complimentary trimmings. Be warned though, after my art director left, these trimmings cost $ 12 as it would be with a new stylist and that did not rub me the right way and I thought that was very cheap of them especially since I was a customer for over 2 years. The prices here are way too expensive for my tastes especially if you get a higher level director to work on you. But their customer service and service in general is definitely pleasing and exceptional and kept me going for longer than I really should have. If time is not a factor, and you want a nice pampering cut, I definitely recommend this Toni and Guy.

I wasn’t a fan of the Toni & Guy in Yorkville but I still gave this place a chance in an effort to try as many places as possible. The service at the counter was much better and lacked the Yorkville pretence… what a different a few numbers in the address makes. Price was $ 60 with tip for a basic men’s cut and wash. The stylist paid attention to what I wanted and did push any weird hair styles I wasn’t interested in.
