I had a very frustrating experience here. I called ahead of time to see what the process was for repairs. Was told to come drop off camera and they would call me in a couple of days with estimate. I walked 30min there in rain with cranky toddler to drop my camera off, and was told that you have to pay $ 25 in order to drop off your camera for an estimate. So you have to pay for an estimate. I explained that I was not told there was a fee. He stated that it is standard and common practice by companies like Sony, etc. He added that most people have no problem with it(rudely implying that I am cheap I guess). When asked how much they charge per hour for service and a general idea of how long it would take(FYI it was replacing a plastic cover on the LCD screen of a Canon Rebel) — he was unhelpful and said — well probably just an hour but hard to say… Well I should hope it does not take more than an hour to pop a piece of plastic off and put a new one on. My repair is the equivalent of replacing a cracked smart phone screen. At Apple in Eaton Cenre they did it for free in 10min — so I am thinking that charging $ 25 for an ESTIMATE may not be as standard of a practice as these guys think. But if Sony does it I guess it is free game. Trust me this place is like an ugly third cousin of Sony. Why would a local small business compare itself to Sony anyway. Anyways I digress. Then he says it may be hard to find the part and I may need to buy the entire new back panel. Meanwhile my baby is getting more cranky — she picks up on the jerky vibe. I tell him I will think about it. The access to the store is tricky with a stroller — large step up and heavy door with no accessible button to hold it open. So after leaving with my stroller and toddler on my hip — after he implies I am cheap for not wanting to pay him to see how big of an estimate he can rack up — my stroller tips over and my bag contents fall out. No big surprise he does come to help. SAVEYOURTIMEANDMONEYANDAVOID — Rude, Unhelpful and Inaccurate business(and I am using that word loosely here).

These guys were able to help me with my old Nikon FE a few years ago. Not cheap but worth the money – the camera is as good as new. I also had a quote on my old D70s but did not follow through as it was not worth it. I feel like they are very honest about what they can or cannot do, provide quick turn around and fair prices. Plus, they are just off the King streetcar.

i find that $ 25($ 28.25 including hst) is an EXTREMELY reasonable price for a quote. i brought my canon 70−200mm lens to canon and they charged me a set rate of $ 300 or $ 400 something. of course i wasn’t going to spend that much on just an estimate, so go figure! my initial problem with the lens was that it could not focus right and it started to come loose. i really thought that it would take a month to get the whole thing done because there were some parts that needed to be replaced. it turns out that the process was smooth, surprisingly fast, AND the lens worked and STILL works great! these guys are the go-to people if you have injured cameras and photographic equipment!

3 days before a wedding i am shooting my camera Nikon d200 is not working, just plain dead. I go to Downtown Camera where i bought it and find it is just past warranty. Stan says call Toronto Camera Service, they advise they will get me an estimate by Friday the day before the wedding. I got the estimate the next day $ 330. and they repaired it by Friday. What an amazing great place !. my best rating. thanks so much.

You know this place is the best when people from Hamilton trek all the way into Toronto to have their camera fixed. Kai Chung is the owner and has been repairing cameras for close to 20 years! Henry’s, Downtown Camera and Vistek all go to Kai to repair their customer cameras. It’s 25 bucks to have your film and digital camera looked over and 35 bucks for digital videocams. The place recently went through renovations and has a fresh new look! It takes about 2 weeks to get your camera back with a 90-day warranty after being repaired.
