Hi everyone! I tried to visit the Ydessa Hendeles Art Gallery and found out that it has closed. A neighbor restaurant owner told me they shut the doors in the end of 2012.

I don’t know if I’m letting a big art secret out of the bag by writing this review, but I feel like if I don’t then you’re missing out on something great.
This gallery is largely unknown to many, yet you would never guess that it is one of the best museums this city has. It is so unknown that many who live in the neighbourhood, including me, had no idea that this gallery existed.
Why so secret? Well, I’m not sure why but as an art lover, it’s best to come here and discover why it’s so special.
Ydessa Hendeles is a well-​known curator and collector in the art world. Her eponymous gallery has stood unassumingly in the King West Village for more than 20 years. It’s a privately funded space and her commitment to contemporary art as well as her philanthropy is large: last year she donated a portion of her large collection to the Art Gallery of Ontario.
How can you find out more about an upcoming exhibit? Well, that’s difficult. There is no website, no blog, no newsletter or press releases about upcoming exhibits. You just have to keep your ear close to the ground, go there and discover what’s being exhibited.
And, seeing the artwork is super easy thanks to simple business hours: open to the public on Saturdays, from noon to 5 p.m. Cover is $ 4.
