Being a parent is great. I love my kids. But, sometimes it is tough to entertain them. You have to consider the age differences, gender differences. You have to consider costs. You have to ensure you are keeping them active and healthy. Ugh, it can be tough. One weekend, I was at a total loss for what to do. I was all set to let them flake in front of the TV when I decided to call their aunt(an Ottawa native) for some ideas. She suggested I take the kids across the river into Quebec to an aerial park. I balked — Quebec? Sounds far. Aerial park? Sounds… weird. She assured me that it would be fun and she was totally right. Lafleche Aerial Park is a climbing trail among the trees in the woods just north of Ottawa. You don safety equipment and then climb trees and cross obstacles, go through tunnels and fly along zip lines, all from about a dozen metres up. They have multiple courses for different age/difficulty levels. My kids are young, so we used the lowest course — I was welcome to use it with them and help them out in the sticky situations. We had a great time. It was a little pricey — around $ 30 per child. But, we were out in the woods for quite a while and had a lot of fun. Safety is paramount and you get a great orientation and instructions before you begin. Although you are doing some hair-raising things, you never feel at risk. The park offers all sorts of other adventures as well — caves, hiking, etc. So, there is lots to do. My kids loved it and are always pestering me to go back. I will, when I save up enough money!
