When I moved back to Vancouver after living in the US for 5 years, I was so happy when I managed to track down Koto, who had moved to Bangs from the salon I used to go to in Vancouver. I’ve seen both Koto and Sandra at Bangs, and honestly can’t say enough good things about both of them as humans and hair stylists — both have given me great cuts(not an easy feat — I have very difficult hair), and are a pleasure to spend an hour with. The salon is also a cozy spot that’s never too busy and easy to get to from pretty much anywhere in the GVA. Highly recommend.

For years, I went from stylist to stylist, dreading having my hair done. That is, until I met Alan Ng. It has been 13 years and ever since, I have been a loyal client. Alan makes one feel instantly at ease and I always have a great time chatting with him. This works marvelously in terms of his abilities as a stylist. He listens and takes the time to get to know you. Although we now seem to have perfected what I consider ‘my look’, there were many times when I would walk in with only a vague idea of what I was hoping for. Alan, taking both my lifestyle and profession into consideration, would make suggestions, working to find a cut that was right for me. To this very day, I always leave the salon feeling fresh and happy. I often receive compliments on my hair with questions as to where I’m having it done and cannot recommend Alan enough. As long as he is doing hair, I will continue to go back. Really! Words cannot express how much I love and appreciate his talents. Alan is AWESOME!

Andie is the best. She knows exactly what I want after I give her a vague explanation. She’s helped me go from blonde to dark brown to blonde many times over the years. And brought me back to a better version of my natural color two years ago. I’ve been following her around Mount Pleasant salons for about nine years. She opened Bangs a few years ago and filled it with chill talented stylists. I moved to Brooklyn and avoided seeings a new stylist as long as I could. I have bangs so I eventually caved when I couldn’t see. The Brooklyn stylist messed up my hair color really bad. I flew back to Vancouver last week and Andie fixed my hair in an hour. We joked that we would plan trips around hair appointments. If you want a good hair cut or color, go to Bangs. They have an online booking system which is key for people with jammin schedules.

I would highly recommend this place! The online booking system is super easy and accessible. I was nervous about cutting my hair quite short but Sandra gave me some recommendations and talked me through some of my ideas to come up with the perfect hairstyle which she was able to execute. Loved her attitude and way with hair! I will definitely be coming back.

I. Love. This. Place. That being said let me tell you, I had been wandering from salon to salon all over the Riley Park and Mount Pleasent area, up and down Main Street, getting my hair cut for years, and growing out bad hair cut after bad hair cut. Everywhere I went to seemed like they were more in to being trendy(what Main Street is known for, I know) than actually doing anything good with hair. I don’t have difficult hair other than its a bit thin. It’s got a teeny wave to it but mostly it sits 98 percent straight, and so I don’t require miracles to have a decent haircut, but from Trim to East Vanity Parlor all I got was nonchalant service and awful cuts from stylists who just didn’t seem to care if they managed to get a loyal client out of me, it was sad because I wanted a Salon I could go loyally to, as the girl at my last place(Joji’s on Commercial, and that place closed YEARS ago) quit to move up north. I’m pretty easy going but sadly I just didn’t connect with any of these places. I got a rec to come to Bangs from a random person on the internet(scary, right), to the stylist Sandra. I was skeptical but after every bad haircut what was one more? She is AWESOME. She is incredibly friendly and actually has an opinion on your hair and didn’t just half ass a similar style to the picture I brought in but chatted how she could make it work with my hair and what would work and gently told me what might not work. She has has a fantastic attitude and I can’t recommend her enough. She’s stylish, cool AND can cut your hair amazingly. She’s all sorts of sassy, and she makes you feel comfortable. If you’re unsure I’d you might like to give Bangs a go, do it! The ambiance is nice and relaxing and I’ve only ever seen the girls in there as incredibly friendly and eager to help and they seem to connect with their clients and walk ins alike. They all seem to like what they’re doing, they’re not just there to hang out and be ‘cool’. A big plus for me!

This review is for Preston. I followed him from Mine. I’ve been out of town for months and haven’t been able to see him… and since having to adventure out to a different salon in SF, my hair is a GD mess. He knows exactly what to do with my long, thick hair. I’ve actually gotten compliments on the«shape» of my hair. And he does some sort of magic with my bangs — he can do straight and blunt like no other. He gave me my life cut. I want it back!!! I miss Preston. Ps — the salon is dope. They use Bumble and Bumble and have an online booking system.

I went for a cut based on just walking by the shop a few times. I saw Sandra and was super happy with the cut and the experience. She did a really thorough consultation before washing my hair because I didn’t really know what I wanted and was unhappy with what I had done last time my hair was cut. The shampoo was good(they use Bumble and Bumble) and included a head massage. I left feeling great and she gave me a few ideas on ways to style the new cut. The cut was $ 50 before taxes, and she said they’d do free bang trims. We also discussed some colour options and I definitely plan on going back to her. Also, the shop was clean and comfy and the other stylists seemed friendly as well.
