Originally from Sologne in France, Antoine moved to Canada in 1990 with a lot of experience in traditional french cooking. He opened an authentic French bistro in Vancouver in 1999 where he still working everyday to share with his guests his passion for the great food.

I have a mixed feeling about this place. We came for dinner and ordered the Moules et Frites ($ 29 for small, $ 24 for large), their special of the day fish and their 3-​course holiday special, which consisted of some kind of salad, veal and apple pie for $ 35-​$ 40.
The mussel in cream sauce was a definite winner. Order this if you come here and just order one for yourself. Not that it’s a small quantity but it’s so delicious, I don’t think you want to share it. If we only ordered the mussels, I would have given the place a 5 star.
The holiday special was just OK, there is nothing special with the salad and apple pie. The veal however was what brought it down. I thought veal was supposed to be very tender? This one was definitely not tender.
The fish, too turned out to be a disappointment. It was bland and err, left a very fishy aftertaste. At least that’s the direct translation to English of my mom’s comment after she ate one bite and scrunched up her face.
Will I come back here? I think yes, just for the mussel. And I’ll probably stick to their classic next time.

Solid omelette game with a really nice salad. Good portion for only $ 9. Would definitely come back here again as an alternative to Paul’s Omlettery around the corner.

Have been here many times, most recently for lunch. The food is ok but nothing to rave about. I visit this place once every 2 – 3 years, not worth going more.

What a good find. Always wanted to try this place but it’s always so busy. Made reservations for a Thursday night dinner and it wasn’t busy at all. Service was stellar. Our server was hilarious and very attentive. He gave us some good recommendations. The bread is divine. Loved it. Mussels were also recommended by a coworker so had to try it. I agree it was very good. Came with a huge plate of fries. We also shared the seafood special — appetizer, entrée and dessert for $ 33. The appetizer was some puffed pastry wrapped around seafood with a side of salad. That was quite delish. The entrée was halibut and salmon in a lobster sauce with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Rich in flavours but very filling. Portions are generous. Dessert was a chocolate mousse with some biscuits. This dessert was not too sweet– very decadent and pleasant. Overall this place was very good. I would like to try some of their other dishes another day. They close early-8:30 pm which was bizarre. Only thing I didn’t like was they only take cash but I could live with it.

Been here a few times in past years, and each time before I always had the mussels — these are a standard go-​to and Salade des Fruits never disappoints on them!
This time, decided to go for an appy of frog legs (delicious as long as you love garlic and butter), then round it out with the duck confit. The duck was juicy and tender… and a great deal for $ 16!
Note: French food is tres filling… don’t make the mistake of filling up on bread and appies because you will find your belly full mid-​way through our hearty entrée!
So many specials of the day it’s a bit overwhelming… the place is tight on space but it only makes things that much nor intimidate. We came with a group of 6 and while I don’t think they are all that set up for groups, they did good at trying to accommodate. I think 2 – 4 would be the ideal table count.

Used to quite good but seems to have slipped. The toughest steak I have encountered in ages. Oh, and when we brought that to their attention we got the full-​on Gallic response — «must be your fault you ingrate».

Good joint. Been like five times over the past 15 years. Our French teacher introduced us to this hip chic venue before it came up on the scene.
Try the frog legs, oooo and the escargots here are great. No joke I thought they would be disgusting (overall because who eats snails… I grew up seeing them in gardens) but a def try if you’re eating here just because they are Français and know what they are talking about, oui oui?

Try this place. It is on the small side so it is great to take a lovely lady here pour un rendezvous and to drink lots of great vin.

This is a fantastic French Café. The space is a bit small but cozy. We were here for Saturday brunch. Not only our entrees – Omelette and Mussel, but also the bread and coffee are great. The omelette is a bit «tortilla-​like» to me. It is thicker and mixed with lots of veggies and thus pretty fulfilling. There was an sausage option of «lamb» sausage. I tried it because I’ve never tried this kind of sausage anywhere before. Turns out even I’m not a big fan of lamb but still fine to finish it. I heard it is harder to get a seat during dinner time. But the good thing is you can make a reservation here and remember this is a CASH ONLY restaurant. All in all, the price is very decent and food is authentic. Definitely coming back soon!

The spot is as French as it gets. All the employees have a thick French accent and many of their diners also speak French. This is the spot to go to if you want casual French bistro food.
All the guys went for the Sandwich of the Day, which was a Steak Sandwich for $ 10. This came with your choice of green salad or fries. They all went for the fries. They were warned that they do not serve ketchup with fries, but rather mayonnaise only. That’s the way the French do it! Some of them wished that there was ketchup, but they had to make do with the mayo. The portions are huge! You get a good amount of steak and it was cooked to tender. Most of them couldn’t clear their plate of fries!
Although I wanted to try the Steak Sandwich too, I had heard great things about their Moules et Frites. So, I spent a bit more for lunch to try this dish out and I couldn’t be anymore happier. I got the regular size for $ 16 and it was a huge pot! The mussels were one of the most fresh and plump mussels I’ve had. There were no empty shells. You can choose between some broths, and I went for the classic white wine and shallots. All the guys tried some and said they were delicious! It also came with a huge order of fries again. These were skinny and crispy. I ended up dipping them into my broth. I wished there was more bread to do so as well.
Overall, we were extremely pleased with Café Salade de Fruits. I think these are some of the best mussels I’ve had in Vancouver! They also offer a variety of soups, sandwiches, and quiches. A must try!

Cash Only!!! Strongly recommend reservations. I had 3-​course meal for $ 28 which was good deal. My main course was a rack of pork which was juicy and tasty. My dessert was Crème Brûlée served with a cookie. Crème Brulee was the best I had in years. Creamy but not too creamy and not sweet. It was so good that I ordered a second one.

Be warned: This establishment is cash only! Real french cuisine served by french waiters and waitresses. If you’re here for one thing, get the moules-​frites (mussels and fries); they are the best in Vancouver. Small and intimate dining environment. Daily specials keep the menu fresh and exciting while still retaining its tried-​and-​true favourites. Portion sizes aren’t huge, but they aren’t small either so you should expect to be satisfied after your meal.

Best mussels with a great dining environment. Always makes me feel like I’m in France.
My husband and I dine there often and we always order the same entrees. I get the mussels and frites, and he gets the steak. Love the salad with vinaigrette, frites are the perfect straw-​like thickness. The broth for the mussels are to die for. Never over cooked. The price is right for the quality and taste.

This place is kind of quirky and out of the way. We received a gift certificate so of course we made a reservation and tried it out. There’s a few things to remember about this place… they close at 8:30 pm, they only accept cash and although the menu isn’t cheap the place is a hole in the wall. We checked out the menu on line before going but were kind of surprised to see the actual restaurant when we arrived. It’s a small place with somewhat shabby furniture and waiters in t-​shirts and shorts serving the food. Not really what you’d expect when going to a French restaurant with dishes costing around $ 30 a plate.
We had two servers helping us. Both had thick french accents, were very loud and very helpful.
We ordered a variety of foods including the shrimp avocado salad, beef carpaccio, halibut cheeks and venison. The salad was amazing but the beef carpaccio was somewhat mediocre. We both enjoyed our mains although we both agreed that the curry flavour on the halibut cheeks was a little bit of an odd pairing. For dessert I had the Alaska Bake and my wife the chocolate torte. I think we were both expecting more from our desserts… they were fine — just nothing special.
There’s a few things we would like to try on the menu so we may return but we won’t be running back any time soon.

Honestly so good! Would have given 5 stars but my dessert wasn’t ‘extraordinarily good’, everything else — perfect. I went for dinner and had the Magret de Canard (the only duck in the menu), and it was so good. Definitely a place worth to checkout!

I love this place. The place is a bit small so if you are coming here for lunch so show up before noon. As well this place only accepts cash. Their portions are huge. I usually order the mussel and frits and basically it’s big enough for two. In the past you could share it but now if you share you will have to pay and extra $ 5. So you might as well order a soup as well and share the soup and mussel and fruits to avoid the $ 5 sharing charge.
The food is yummy. I highly recommend this place. In the summer time they have tables outside for you to enjoy the sun.

CASH ONLY!
A curious hole in the wall restaurant where only one server spoke english (the other two seemed to have very limited english and spoke predominantly in French). I stumbled in and asked about their poutine since I had heard it was quite amazing here and it was quite a sight to watch the chef in the back prepare the poutine. He very simply started to deep-​fry the french fries and then took it out to toss in a large metal bowl with something before placing it into my take out box and generously placing handfuls of cheese curds and spooning on a thick gravy before sprinkling with coarsely ground pepper.
I didn’t get a chance to eat it before getting home to Seattle (3hrs drive), but boy was it amazing. I will definitely be coming here again when I make my next trip to Vancouver!

$ 28 3 course table d’hote is a good deal. On our occasion, we had a choice of 5 main plates. The appetizer was a salad with goat cheese crostinin & honey. Dessert was a blueberry almond flan.
I ordered the mussels with frites, added chorizo & tomato for an extra $ 2. Have to say, it wasn’t my favourite — could be the time of year, summer’s just not great for shellfish.
Enjoyed the trout entrée with baby shrimp & crab sauce — tasty! Came with a salad as well.
The steak with foie gras was OK. The steak was perfectly cooked, but the foie. it’s just not the same in Vancouver. gamey & kinda stringy.
No complaints about the desserts, though. Liked the baked alaska that came with pomegranate sorbet.
