This is the fourth incarnation of the Robson Square public seating programme. Personally, I liked the beanbags more but apparently they had issues cleaning them and homeless people were sleeping on them at night, leading to general cleanliness issues — I don’t relish the idea of getting body lice from sitting there. This year’s giant deck theme, inspired by the wooden plank roads made by loggers, is a great replacement. You can see that it’s already getting a ton of use, both by regular pedestrians and buskers, and it’s intersecting well with the city’s food truck program. Another instance of Vancouver’s excellent city planning in action.
