History

Established in 1976.

In business for over 35 years, we were probably the original prototype to the storage industry in Vancouver. We first began in the old Safeway warehouse (now a historic building) in the Yaletown neighborhood with the intention of renting large commercial spaces. When a university student was desperately seeking a low cost solution for storing his bed and TV over the summer holidays, we gave him space in the middle of a floor. He told his friends and soon we had to use chicken wire to separate the goods. We started advertising small spaces and built walls and doors. In 1998, over 2 months, we moved everyone, approx. 600 tenants, to the modern, new storage facility we are located today.

Business Owner

As owner/​operator of Downtown U-​Lok Storage Ltd. and a Director of Rare Indigo, Yvonne has a broad range of experiences, from teaching at a private business college and speaking at industry workshops to overseeing the construction and development of commercial buildings. She also «runs with the wolves» at Rare Indigo Ventures Inc., a corporate event and destination management company (DMC). She has been a Vancouver Board of Trade director for 8 years, past chair of The Board’s Leaders of Tomorrow Mentorship Program and co-​chair of the Company of Young Professionals Program and board member of Small Business BC, the Strathcona Area Merchants Society, and the Strathcona BIA. She lives what she believes in — building success on personal and business relationships developed through the positive power of business and community working together
