Exactly what Unilocal’s 2 stars is all about, in fact, if I wasn’t so nice, most of the non-Japanese owned sushi places are already at a 2 star limit; just nothing that offers something to make you come back. i was here last summer, so that pretty well tells you how memorable they were. Not good, not bad, just average so believe me, just drive 5 min further to Green Leaf Sushi on West Broadway, you pay more for quality but let’s head back to Dream Sushi. It’s a dainty little place, a lot of blue décor and cheap seating, wasn’t very comfortable. Those brown cube-like pieces that you have around the coffee table, no joke! There are a few tables so it’s not exactly date material, more like an in-and-out; Wild Sushi would be for this. The cali roll I had was average, wasn’t rolled tight, so things were falling apart when trying to pick up each piece. But if you’re here for value, it sure is cheap here. Btw, if you spend $ 50, heaven forbid, you do get a free cali roll lol A lot smaller than their Main St. Not exactly the world’s friendliest service nor rude either. Offer brown rice.

I ordered take away from Dream Sushi. I accidentally ordered from the location on Main street instead of the Dunbar location. The Main street location offered to call Dunbar for me to reiterate my order. I appreciated that. The food was made in a timely manner and it was only 20 minutes before the food was ready for pick up. I decided to spend a little bit more for a real crab cali roll. When I ate the roll there was barely any crab. The roll was 95% cucumber inside. The rolls were also very loose. They fell apart much too easily. This makes it difficult to eat the rolls. In conclusion: great customer service, average sushi.

I usually go to the one on Main Street but decided to give this place a try because it’s closer and there’s free street parking. As I expected, the sushi was fresh and really good! The pricing is also reasonable — $ 6.50 for 2 items and miso soup off their lunch combo! The hornby roll is definitely one to try as well! I took 2 stars off because the waitress is rude and doesn’t speak a word to you the entire time. Because of her, I’d suggest taking out instead.

It is hard to review Dream Sushi without reminiscing about its predecessor, Sushi Q. Sushi Q offered great-tasting authentic sushi and to me, it was truly one of the best hidden gems on Dunbar. So to me, Dream Sushi has a very big gap to fill when they took over Sushi Q. Launched in January 2012, Dream Sushi was immediately challenged with competition from other sushi places in the area — Wild Sushi, and Sushi Inn. When compared to its sushi neighbours, Dream Sushi came off more of a take-out place than a dine-in experience. Dream Sushi is very small. In fact it is probably just a couple of feet away from being a hole-in-a-wall sushi bar. Luckily the interior is not cramped with unnecessary decorations. It is clean and tidy. The bar seats by the front window offers a nice place to people-watch too. Sadly the same that be said about its wall paint. Maybe it’s just me, but neon blue can be somewhat unappealing. Dream Sushi has a multitude of rolls as well as the standards(basic nigiris, and makis) and simple teriyaki dishes. However, sushi here is somewhat inconsistent. Food quality is usually acceptable, but occasionally, like on my visit today, it can be very disappointing. That being said, even on its best day the sushi here is not going to blow you away. In all fairness, the one reason why I think you should come to Dream Sushi is its lunch specials(for 6.50 you receive two items from the list and a complementary miso soup). Overall, if you are a sushi connoisseur, Dream Sushi is highly skippable. It offers nothing you cannot find from another sushi places. It is not the cheapest, nor is it the tastiest. It lies right there on the average. The service is okay and price is acceptable, but that is just about it. It is an al-right place, but it ultimately lacks the oomph that would otherwise differentiate itself from other sushi places in Vancouver.

Formally known as «Susie Q»(cute idea), «Dream Sushi»(possibly Freddy Kreuger cuts the rolls) is a nice tiny little place to get your vinegared rice with assorted accessories. It was definitely built more for take out as there are only two tables, so a maximum capacity of maybe 4 to 6 people(which is ok because if you take-out and pay cash you’ll get a 5% discount). The lunch specials are good, I was able to get a teriyaki chicken(good portioned bowl-ful) and a yam tempura roll for under 10 dollars. The high point of the meal was the«Peking Duck Roll» which for some reason screamed«chinese» influence, but I can’t quite put my finger on why. It seems to be a roll all on it’s own, cooked duck meat stuffed inside with crispy duck skin on top, I actually enjoyed it very much and it’s a nice option if you don’t like raw fish but are not a vegetarian either. I would go again for take out for sure but my only gripe would be the portion of pickled ginger and wasabi that accompanied our food. It was a meal for two with two rolls(8 pieces each) that came with probably 4 slices of ginger and a thumbnail sized portion of wasabi. I am thinking this is to prevent waste as I know most north americans don’t eat much wasabi and there always seems to be left over green stuff on the plate. It’s easy enough to request more so not much of a problem. The service was very good, attentive and friendly.

The sushi is decent, and there are great vegetarian options. The staff is very friendly and service is quick. There are numerous ready to go options available which sets itself apart from Wild Sushi a couple blocks up which is a bit more expensive and a longer wait time for your food(although it’s a great option as well). Vancouver has so many great sushi restaurants that it’s easy to find faults, but this is a good cheap restaurant that delivers with good quality. I eat here at least once every couple of weeks.

Looking for mediocre quality sushi with a lot of attitude from the owner to go with it? This is the place to be! With planty of other options around and Wild Sushi across the street, I don’t see myself coming back here again, unless really really desparate.
