Honestly, probably one of the better places for happy hour in the downtown core! Recently renovated, it has a slightly brighter feel than before, but still with a nice level of comfort. HH menu ½ price from 4 – 6) is extensive and food is great! The deep fried pickles to me are the bear in the city. And ½ price bottles of house wine?! Yes please!

No one took our order for quite some time. My undersized salad was made of wilted greens, some completely rotted. Cost me $ 11. There was nothing to dry my hands on in the rest room. Which sucks when leaving to a cold winters day. Will never return.

Came to meet my fiancé and his friend to grab after work drinks. This place gets busy during the after work rush. They have daily drink specials which can be nice. I didn’t get to try the food here so I can’t rate it based on that. The service was good even though the restaurant was packed. Our server came by several times to check on us. A good place for after work drinks with friends.

This restaurant/pub is a convenient place to grab dinner after work, since it’s quite close to Waterfront Station. I’ve been here several times before just for the convenience factor. Typical pub food. I always get the fish & chips. You only get one piece of fish & some fries for $ 14, but the piece is quite big compared to other places. The taste is alright, nothing fantastic. The fries changed recently to a flatter style fry; I like it better than before. This review is 2 stars because of the service here, which is pretty non-existent if you don’t order alcoholic drinks with your food. We were waiting around for our server to appear to take our order, refill our drinks, and even to give us our bill. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time we received such non-existent service here.

The Best Reuben Sandwich in the City is BACK! As good or better than any you will find in NYC, Chicago or San Francisco! Excellent Quality and Preparation, Superb Service and Classic Ambiance. Great to have them open again! Place looks Fresh!

This is a good place for basic English pub food, although including a few things with at least minor twists. I found the food to be a little inconsistent flavorwise, but it was good overall. The bacon-wrapped meatloaf was very good, but the desserts were by far the standouts. There was a good-sized beer selection, although they were out of a few that were on the menu when I was there. And the staff is warm, friendly, and patient.

The yam fries gave me food poisoning a few weeks ago, I won’t be returning! I was sick for 48 hours. I had eaten here a few times and the quality of the food doesn’t match up to the higher prices. This is regular pub food — nothing should be over $ 10!

Arrived at 11:45am for lunch today. The waitress and hostess were pleasant but I found the wait time for our food a tad on the slow side given we had arrived before the rush. I ordered the mahi mahi fish taco. While the presentation and seasoning were good, the fish content was lacking. The fish pieces were tiny and could have been considered a vegetarian dish in my view. Not sure why the kitchen was okay sending that out in that state. Service — 4 stars Food — 2.5 stars(given that I have been here previously and had a better experience)

This was a decent place to get some food and a beer. Good atmosphere. Variety of sports on all the TV’s. Service was decent and certainly friendly. The food here is just a bit above average. I had the fish and chips. Tasty and not too greasy, but not great. My wife had the chicken pot pie, which was good. Prices are a bit high for average pub food, but this is Vancouver and everything is expensive. E&C pub is worth a shot for some casual dining. I gave it a 3, but it’s really a 3+.

The Keith’s IPA is not a real IPA. Don’t order that. The food is OK, but not more than that.

On a recent trip to Vancouver my friend and I stopped in here for drinks and a later dinner on a Friday. It was busy but nothing crazy which was nice and relaxing. We were seated at a good table by a friendly employee. The first check mark was the fact they had tonic as the bar we had been at before had been out! With drinks on hand we looked at the dinner options — all the pub favourites. We both settled on burgers. I had something invoking bbq sauce and my date had the bacon blue. Both were good, although in my opinion the patty seemed to be something out of the freezer — still tasty but not what I expect in a pub. Fried and gravy were good though! We had a few more drinks as the services and environment were nice. In the end, we were surprised how reasonable the bill was, and the fact that the nice server replaced a gin and tonic for free after my clumsy friend launched it all over his seat. Good move! Good, solid place. Clean — washrooms were nice and clean too.

On our recent day acting like tourists in our former hometown, we came across this Elephant & Castle and decided that poutine and drinks were completely necessary to get us out of the drizzly cold day. Great service and a very good martini but the poutine left much to be desired — gloppy gravy and the fries lacked flavor. The calamari was much better. I like that everyone is making the addition of peppers to the otherwise traditional dish. I might stop in here again for drinks, but I’ll save my food appetite for somewhere better.

Meh, I’ve had better. Better food, check. The food arrived about 30 minutes after we ordered, cold. On the up side, the waiter did apologize for the wait, but did nothing to remedy it. Better service, check. Likely due to the fact that it was busy and that the waiter had a decent section of 10 tables to care for. The bill came, and then the waiter disappeared for 10 minutes. All in all, the time it took, to be served an average meal, was somewhat unacceptable. I’ve come in for after work beers and had better experiences, but lunch today was just meh.

Less than two blocks from my office makes this a great place for post-work beers; it’s also good for plate sharing if you have an appetite. Décor and atmosphere are nice and space is relatively clean. Servers are friendly and accommodating — one server remembered my beer order after only serving me one or two times beforehand. The only issue I’ve had here is when we ordered wings and they came out looking slightly under cooked. However, our server replaced the entire batch with a new one that was cooked perfectly with no extra charge. It’s also a bit of a drag walking down a massive flight of stairs into the dungeon-area where the washrooms are located but if you time your bladder coordination right, you can use the handicapped washroom on the main floor. Overall, Elephant and Castle is one of my favorite pubs in Vancouver and I will continue to return for beers and light meals.

I had a really good lunch experience here today. We were a group of 3, came at 1 and were out the door by 145pm. Awesome. We got the summer salad, stuffed yorkshire puddings and sherpherds pie. Each were generous in portions. I have to say that the stuffed yorkshire pudding looked to DIE for. Everyone enjoyed their meals with no problems. Server was nice and attentive. The only thing I could add is that their shepherds pie does not have a crunchy crust and it’s just ground beef and lamb with a mashed potato topping, but the taste was good. I give you guys a 4 and I’ll be back again!

In most places, I often order the same thing because there’s only one or two dishes on the menu that I like. At the Elephant, I always got the impressive roast beef — stuffed yorkshire pudding. Placed on a bed of mashed potatoes and generous side of green beans — it was heaven. Then I tried the summer salad. Then I saw the beef and mushroom pie. Then there’s the huge fish and chips. Oh, and poutine! The excellent variety and quality of food means I can visit more often without getting bored. On top of all that, service is usually decent, the prices are reasonable, and the art deco décor of this heritage building make lunch or dinner feel like a special occassion.

Currently sitting in the pub on a Saturday night. My party of eleven is being completely neglected despite the fact that everyone is ready to spend money… they must not want our business…

They serve butter chicken poutine here. It is amazing. The ceasar’s are meh. I’m a ceasar lover(recently converted) so I’m picky. I ordered one here recently and don’t think I would do it again because it was very plain, but ambiance, décor, staff, and other consumables are excellent.
