Was looking for Mom’s Grilled cheese and ended up finding this food truck. Ordered a fish taco, sweet potato fries and a watermelon lemonade to wash it all off! Review: fish taco — tasty nothing special, if you have had a fish taco before nothing special Sweet potato fries — crinkle cut fries with chipotle aioli. Very tasty and not too salty w/a spicy aioli that suits the fries well Watermelon lemonade — refreshing drink for the summer

I had the fish tacos and sweet potato fries. The fries were some of the best I had, and delish with the chipotle dip. The fish tacos tasted fresh and prepared well. I would have liked a bit more flavour/sauce to bump it up a notch. Service was fairly quick at rush time. Everything tasted good and fresh. Price is a bit high, so I’d definitely consider more reasonably priced food carts. $ 5 for a small thing of fries(I’d get 3−4x as much for that price at five guys) and like $ 9 for two small fish tacos.

Generally positive first and second experience here. Full disclosure, today was a promo item for the sunset beach foodcart fest, so maybe not fair to judge them on… But it was good. Past experience, as usual, left me a bit miffed about price, but the food here is good and fresh, and portions decent sized. We had the dirty fries today.

Definitely not worth the price. My friends and I ordered their special albacore tuna tacos, which was described like a Tacofino tuna taco rip-off. The 2 tacos for $ 11 were ridiculously small. Each taco had one small piece of overcooked tuna on it, and stuff to the brim with cabbage instead. It was definitely not worth the $ 11 for 2 measly, not tasty tacos. Service was also pretty curt — not friendly. If you’re craving tacos, head over to Tacofino instead for the real deal. Don’t waste your money on bad rip-offs. Not worth it.

I LOVE crabcakes. So when I came across this food truck today at lunch, had to indulge as they had a crab and shrimp cake dish on the menu. A bit pricey for a food truck at $ 11.50, but let’s face it, crab ain’t cheap, so figured it was worth it. After much anticipation, I was presented with what had to be 2 of THE most gigantic crabcake balls I’ve ever seen in my life. Complete with a dollup of coleslaw adorned with a beautiful piece of crab which I likened to be the«icing on top». Masterpiece, you might think, but once I dove into what appeared to be decadent mouth-watering yumminess, I was so sadly crushed with disappointment. They may as well have just deep fried mashed potatoes. Yes, there was crab. Yes, there was shrimp. But in such minutia amounts, you could barely pick them out with your eye, let alone taste. It was bland. How can I descibe the blandness? Hmmmm… imagine bland mashed potatoes. That’s how it tasted. But, on a good note, the accompanying cocktail sauce was very good and added some depth to the mashed potatoes in desperate need of seasoning. I guess the let down was exacerbated by the look. It just looked so good. But sadly, another case of LBTT(Looks Better Than it Tastes). Save your pennies kiddies and avoid the CARBcake.

Red snapper on a bun was very good. House cut fries? Those were a joke. They tasted awful and had a very strange consistency. Best to skip the sides.

«West Coast Snapper». A buttermilk battered and crispy fried piece of local red snapper; accompanied by tartar sauce, coleslaw, and fresh sliced tomatoes, on a soft taco shell. I got the taco shell instead of the brioche bun it usually comes on. Despite the requested change from bun to taco, this one piece of fish, with BBQ like flavours, still came up to $ 8. After having the 2 tuna tacos for $ 8 as well, I felt jipped by this. I understand that my money is going towards the price of the red snapper, but I couldn’t justify the quantity for price here. As a minimum the fish was well seasoned. And the batter, a heavy crispy coating that was the only crunchy texture in a sea of smooth sauces, melty coleslaw, and soggy tomatoes. Both the fish tacos I had were a mix of crispy vegetables, flakey fish, and creamy sauces. Good thing I was ambitious and ordered two items. Just having one of either is not enough for a full meal. Would I go back? — No. As interesting as the tuna taco was, I didn’t find anything all that special about their food. I like my tacos piled high and a sopping mess. And you can’t get either unless you have four walls and table with seating available. An order like this requires two hands full and a mouth open wide. Would I recommend it? — Yes. For the daring diner they have some exciting flavours that are as unique as their ingredients. And for the cautious consumer they have familiar classics, and can make any of their menu items to your desired specifications.

I dropped by the art gallery to get a fish taco from Tacofino. They weren’t around but Feastro was so I decided to try Feastro’s fish taco instead. They charge $ 4.50 plus tax, similar to Tacofino’s $ 5 incl tax. That’s where the similarities end. Feastro’s fish had more batter than fish. The batter was thick, crunchy and heavy. and the taco had an overbearing raw onion flavor. It was edible but it was not good. Their menu items sound interesting but based on my experience with the fish taco, I won’t be back.

I have been to Feastro several times and I’m sort of on the fence with them. On one hand, some of their items have been really good, and others… well, not so dynamite. I do love the variety of their menu, it’s just that some of the items lack flavour. Their smoked salmon was very good, as was their halibut. The giant shrimp & crab cake needs to be less giant and more shrimp & crab flavour. Most recently, I was at Street Food City II where I had their crab & shrimp cake sandwich and their prawn & proscuitto tacos. Sounds awesome, right? Sadly, both items lacked seasoning. I was disappointed in the sandwich most, because had I been blindfolded, I wouldn’t have known that there was crab in this. I was hoping for an improvement on their previous crab & shrimp cake, but I was left hanging. All I could taste was potato with black pepper. Also, the texture was very mushy so after a couple of bites, the whole thing fell apart. Good thing I had a fork and lots of napkins. The tacos were better, but they were still screaming out for some salt. I’m hoping that this recent experience was an off-day for them and is not an indication of a slip in quality control. I’m such an advocate for food carts in general and hope they can make some improvements to stick around for years to come.

october first… day one of the 30-day Unilocal challenge. challenge accepted. good thing i tried a bunch of food trucks last week for a different challenge/competition(that i managed to get second place in), so i’ll have a few new things to review. feastro was one of the food-trucks that i tried. it serves breakfast all day(which is AWESOME, i can seriously eat breakfast food at any time of the day). i got the salmon eggs benny, and it was pretty good… didn’t really like the cornbread with the egg(personal preference, because my friend, who got the same dish but with the ham loved the cornbread) and i was expecting a smoked salmon, but it was more grilled than smoked(but it was still pretty good). loved the potatoes mixed around w/veggies though. don’t know if i’d get that particular dish again, but i’d definitely go back to try something else.

When Feastro first arrived on the Vancouver truck scene, there were still just a few handfulls of trucks alongside them. And now, in the growing competitive market(100 trucks and counting? Wow!) Feastro has fired up its engine on truck numero two. If you’re like me, you might find yourself with a case of food envy when every dish handed down from the counter looks delish. I watched plates of fish and chips, fish(and tuna) tacos, fries and sweet potato fries pass by while I awaited my crab and and shrimp cake. AKA Crab Mountain, Crab Muffin, The Volcano, and what the truck staff refer to as the softball. Make. No. Mistake. This ain’t yo’ fancy schmancy, delicate crab cake served as an appetizer atop a white linen tablecloth. This be a behemoth of a meal. A fork and knifer with strategy involved. Observe: Slit your muffin near the top and carve it open to reveal the cavern below. Think about clam chowders inside bread bowls. Eat from the inside out like you would a taco salad, every once in awhile cracking off a piece of the deep brown and fried outer edge holding your mountain together. Between dives into the gooey, shrimpy, crabby centre, pause to take in handfulls of the shoestring fries. The sea salt makes these magical morsels. And when you’re feeling like you’ve overindulged, fork your coleslaw and get back to the task at hand: climbing the mountain!(Wow, who knew you could include so many metaphors and analogies in one paragraph!) Yes, yes, we might be podless when it comes to the truck scene, but how could you not love noshing on your lunch plucked straight from a truck on the Art Gallery stairs in the sunshine? And if you’re lucky, and arriving just before the lunch rush, you might be delighted to find samples being offered to passerbys! Location: On the west side of Howe @ Robson. Yes, they take credit cards and interact.
