Flight Centre-West 10th

What am I doing in a travel agency? I don’t actually see what these places can do for me that I can’t do myself… But, no, not true. At least not in terms of «international» flights.
After doing some research on the net, and failing to find super low prices for flights to NYC, I decided to check the prices at Flight Centre… after all, don’t they offer the lowest price guaranteed?
I’d found tickets all over the web for flights fluctuating between 600 and 700, but I found the cheapest online at Flight Centre’s website for 640 for a non-​stop flight. I decided to call the toll-​free number on the web since they suggest that live agents might be able to get me a better deal, And after speaking with a knowledgeable and helpful agent over the phone, she suggested waiting about a week to book because the prices in her system also seemed to be fluctuating, which meant better deals might be had a bit later.
Tick tock tick tock… One week later, I decided to check out the prices again. BAM! 507 for the same non-​stop flight I’d been stalking. A full 127 bucks cheaper!
So heeding the advice given to me by that agent the week prior, I printed it out, and I hauled my butt over to the nearest Flight Centre just in case they could find me a better deal.
Rebecca helped me with my booking and was a pleasure to chat with… but then it started. The up-​sell for insurance. I know better, but I always fall for it. She talked about how risky it was to travel without insurance (I know, I know). What if you get sick before you go? What if something happens while i’m traveling (I could get stuck with a $$ hospital bill, yes I know). And what if they lose your luggage (uh huh.)…
I’m a pretty optimistic person so I tend not to focus on all the what-​ifs, but of course, after she kept going over it again and again, all these inconceivable images of myself in various conditions started running through my head like a bad movie.
In the end, I paid the extra 80 bucks for insurance for the youth explorer package. Just so that movie reel would stop. I could cancel within 24 hours if I changed my mind. But I didn’t…i guess better safe than sorry right?
