Greenbrier Hotel

I made a reservation on line and mistakely booked time for a week instead of 1 day and then another day. After i realized my mistake, when i got to the hotel that night (yes, same day reservation), they said that they would not refund my money. Okay — had to have somewhere to stay, no choice, catching a plane the next morning — went to room — it was 90 degrees in the room and no way to cool it down. When i called down, they said they have central heating and air so cannot change the temp in the room. When i checked out, i asked about getting my refund and the front desk told me to contact the manager, gave me his email and said this was the best way to contact him. I have emailed 4 times and NO RESPONSE AT ALL. None! This place is a rip off and not worth the stay. Also, no elevator!

Good hotel for the price. We were there for a 5-​night stay.
The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
The location is very convenient, right on Robson Street with plenty of
restaurants to choose from and not a long walk to the heart of downtown.
Public buses stops nearby and across the street is the Big Bus tour pickup point.
Since this was a converted apartment building, the guestrooms have kitchens.
You must ask the front desk for utensils and dishware.
Note: They did not offer complementary breakfast because it was off-​season.
No elevators, too little heating in rooms (we were there during the cold fall season),
rough towels, limited lighting in guest rooms, could use a little sprucing up with the furnishings. Fairly Spartan accommodations, but overall, a good value.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at almost all of the hotels in downtown Vancouver — everything from the «high end» to the «bottom of the barrel». I would consider this hotel to be on the nicer end of the low scale: clean, no frills, decently sized rooms
We stayed here middle of September, 2014. When we got here I was pleasantly surprised by the front desk/​lobby area which has been nicely renovated (i should note the rooms have NOT been renovated to the same standard). It is a quaint boutique hotel which resembles a small 3 story apartment building with both studio and 1 bedroom suites.
There were three downfalls that I noticed during our stay. The first is that there is NO A/​C. If you were on the third floor in the summer this might drive you crazy. The second is the fact that there is NO ELEVATOR. It didn’t bother me, but for people with disabilities this would pose an issue. The third was the bath towels. Personally this was the thing that bothered me the most. These were the worst towels I have ever seen, basically threadbare and really small, they didn’t dry me off at all. There was a hole right though two of them! It wouldn’t cost much for the hotel to get new towels and it would be a nice upgraded touch.
Ill be honest, even with those three minor issues, up until we checked out I was planning on giving this hotel a 3.5 review. We stayed here a total of four nights but this next thing is what ruined the entire experience for us. We were to check out on Saturday morning and were out late the night before. We always ask for late checkout from the moment we check in at any hotel because neither of us are morning people. Most hotels are accommodating, usually giving til 1pm without penalty. At the Greenbrier we were informed of a $ 20/​hr fee for late check out starting at 11:30am. We asked to have to have til 1:30pm the following day, a 2 hour/​$ 40 penalty but worth it in our eyes knowing full well that we wouldn’t make the 1130 am. deadline.
This is when the customer service went from pleasant to downright rude. Saturday morning at 11:10 am we woke up to a call from the front desk, asking us when we were going to check out. We were both pissed — we had already programmed ourselves to having that extra bit of sleep. As we had already agreed to pay the $ 40 to have til 1:30pm, we didn’t understand why they were bothering us! After a long, annoying phone conversation with the lady at the front desk (she kept asking us how long we were going to be and if we were sure we were okay with paying a late checkout penalty which we had already agreed to several times at this point!!!) we managed to fall asleep for a few more minutes before getting up and starting to pack. Around 12:20pm we received yet another call from the lady at reception asking how much longer we were going to be. We AGAIN told her that we had agreed to pay the extra charge til 1:30pm and would NOT be ready before then. At 1:20 pm as I was doing the final check of our room, and packing the last few things we received yet ANOTHER call asking when we would be leaving. Talk about pushy!!! And it got worse! At 1:35pm as my boyfriend was literally putting the bags in the hall the lady from the front desk came up to our room to inform us if we didn’t leave soon that she was going to call the police!!! That was the final straw of our 4 night stay… not only had we already agreed to pay the extra $ 40 to have til 1:30, we had been harassed the ENTIRE time, and now 5 mins over we were threatened with police involvement!!! Neither of us have ever had such a terrible experience or felt so unwelcome at a hotel in our entire lives.
We will NOT be going back and we certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone anytime soon.

Definitely a great place to stay for a good good price! The rooms are spacious, clean and have kitchens! Which is very budget friendly when staying downtown Vancouver. Also, it turns out the hotel offers complimentary light breakfast: toast, jam, peanut butter, coffee etc. The location works out perfectly as well. If you walk one block up, you hit a number of busy shops and end up in downtown core. Yet if you walk down to the harbor, you get immersed in the scenic views of the mountains, water and Stanley Park.

Great deal for the price. Greenbrier is in the mix of everything in downtown Vancouver and is an incredible deal. The staff is incredibly friendly (even for Canada!) and the rooms are large and clean. I’ll be staying here when I visit from now on. Front desk clerk Amanda was particularly nice.

We loved Robson Street and the West End so the location of this hotel was perfect. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room itself was a bit run down. The smell of mildew was present during our entire stay though that may be due to the constant moist weather. Still, they could have benefited from using Febreze on a regular basis. The housekeeping staff though friendly was extremely slow. We stayed three nights and didn’t receive housekeeping service until well after 3pm on two days. One day we opted to pass on service because they didn’t show up until after 4. Every one of these days we were out sightseeing all morning & afternoon. The daily breakfast was limited but appreciated as we were on the go most of the time. The underground parking was convenient and not overly priced considering how difficult parking is to find.

Great location but only good hotel-​wise in terms of finishings/​bedding, it’s not 4-​star but more than adequate. Corner lot, 3 storey level. Renovated for the Olympics.
Right in the middle of so many good restaurants, mostly of the asian variety, but there’s a few Italian places too, Nook, Ciao Bella & a Dairy Queen all within walking distance, plus close to Whole Foods too.
For $ 79/​nite at this time of season, plus only $ 20/​day for parking, it’s more than decent for the budget-​minded tourist. Includes small breakfast too.

For Vancouver Pride my partner and I came up and spent Friday at the Sutton Place Hotel. The following day, he and I moved to the Greenbrier Hotel because we had two girlfriends coming up from Bellingham to play with us in beautiful British Columbia.
Let me just say that Dana was a complete peach. She handled everything from check in to check out with such suave I loved it. We had two vehicles to park in their parking garage ($ 24 per car).
There was a free breakfast, but it was cold bagels and muffins. So I went to the Starbucks in the building.
Additionally, the rooms are HUGE. Like seriously. It had to have been an old apartment building. I cannot fathom why or how there would be so much storage space in a two full bed unit (with a pull out couch!).
It is on Robson and Bute (uhh, not exactly but close???) and had an amaaazing location for the parade. We had an incredible time. I would use the Greenbrier Hotel again knowing there is more than enough room for a group and how effective Dana is at her job. I really appreciated this place.
OH AND FREE WIFI. That is great news for those of us from the States! You can connect to the Wifi in airplane mode and use Facebook, internet, etc.

So sad. I was really pulling for this place. This time, though… a bit shambolic. Twits behind the front desk, no follow-​through with things we requested (basics — like «can the room safe work, please?» and «can the room have heat, please?»), nothing in the little kitchen but 4 plates, and when we requested a saucepan, that is all we got — no spoon or spatula or silverware or even an acknowledgement that we might need something else.
Over a three night stay, nothing in the bathroom was replenished. We used everything up, and that’s okay — but wow. For an «executive suite» that is SKIMPY. Oh — and we got coffee the first day, but they never replenished that, either. Nor did we get a 2^nd day or 3^rd day package of sugar and creamer. And we only got one packet of each in the first place!
In the bedroom, the linens were still clean, but we got two pillows. Last year? Four. Interesting.
Overall, I got the strong impression that they are not doing well and so are scrimping like MAD on absolutely everything. But you still pay the same price.
Also — hilariously — when we left some cups and plates in the sink the 2^nd day, we got back to the room to find a bottle of Palmolive dishwashing liquid and a wash rag by the sink! Bwa-​hah-​hah-​hah-​hah-​hah-​hah!!! I mean seriously. I am a do-​it-​myself gal who has PETITE expectations for «luxure» and «pampering» — but they wanted us to wash outr own coffee cups? You joke me.
The very last morning, the heat came on.

Its inexpensive and spacious. The linens are clean. They are super friendly and accomodating. Some downfalls for me were that the bathroom and «living room» area had an odd smell (like old damnpness & urine). I think this was due to wet furniture and/​or wet cloth shower curtains. Also, the «pillow top mattress» has this plastic cover or something, and when I moved it made noise which was not sleep friendly.

We booked this hotel last minute for the first weekend of the Olympics. Even though we had read the horrible reviews online, we had enough sense to see that they were from over a year ago, and furthermore according to the hotel’s website, it had recently undergone a complete renovation.
So, we took the risk and booked this hotel and were VERY PLEASED with the hotel. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and freshly painted.

For now, I will say that if you need a place to stay in Vancouver that has a great location. Nothing fancy, but definitely a good place to stay.

Spacious rooms, reasonable rates, great views, and an amazing location make the Greenbrier Hotel an ideal choice when visiting Vancouver. When I first moved to Vancouver, I stayed at the Greenbrier Hotel. Definitely recommend.
