Robsonstrasse Hotel & Suites

Lower three, but not really a two because I would consider staying here again. This place strikes me as similar to The Empire Landmark next store to it, but although the rating is the same there are some differences.
The Robsonstrasse is actually very… different, from most places I’ve stayed, because it’s not «neutral» like the typical hotel. By this I mean there is a definite point of view to the décor. It is also a small hotel, so they are definitely going to see you come in and notice you, which is fine with me because I am not going to violate any hotel rules. I actually prefer someone noticing if I am around, since then they might notice if they did not, which would be good since I usually travel to BC alone.
I thought the room was clean. My room had an older fridge and a decent microwave with a turntable. If I hadn’t paid so much for it (over 225 dollars), I might think it was a deal They had new tile, with a definite point of view again, but I could see it was new. The carpeting looked relatively new as well and there was a flatscreen TV. They were working on the elevators, which were very slow, but the building only has five floors.
Some of the similarities with the Empire Landmark include It’s got some older cabinets and a fear of partiers/​smokers. The «partier» thing was not much of a problem for me because I look like Ms. Average WASP, except more petite. They were very curious as to why I got a room with two beds, but I explained this was the only room left on the website and they were fine with it. The manager seemed very friendly to me. I did have to sign something about the no smoking policy. About a day later I wondered what they exactly thought I was going to smoke, as I walked by a few stores selling pot, but it didn’t matter much to me. I do not know if there was an extra charge for guests, as another review stated, because I didn’t have any.
The Empire Landmark did have a few amenities this hotel did not, though. These are small things that would be relatively inexpensive to add. There was no second lock that stops the door from opening all the way, there was no facial tissue, and there was no luggage rack. If wi-​fi is your thing though, the wi-​fi h at the Robsonstrasse was much better than at Empire Landmarks. I did not have to sign on every three minutes and it worked fine. The manager told me there hadn’t been any complaints since the receiver had been moved to the roof.
Additionally, The Empire Landmark has small balconies, while the Robsonstrasse does not. The Empire Landmark has central air, while the Robsonstrasse has window units. The building is what it is and they can’t very well add balconies and central A/​C, at least not easily. This did not bother me, but if you smoke, you may want the balcony, even if it is very narrow.(Not that I am saying you are allowed to smoke on a balcony, because I really don’t know.)
Also, although this didn’t matter to me personally, there was either no parking at the Robsonstrasse, or at least, no parking left in the lot (It was a little unclear to me, but if you need parking I would check when I made a reservation.) The friendly housekeeping manager did tell me where I could park cheap, but, in the end, I decided I had enough of the car (and the possessed Garmin).
Overall, it was fine for a two night stay, and although the price was too high for the product, every hotel was either booked or priced extremely high at the time. Just like the Empire Landmark, it probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but I would consider staying there again if the prices in Van City were extremely high when I was in town.

Racist as frak, disgusting. This place should be closed up, torn down and have the earth salted. Shame on you.

Nasty, nasty, nasty place. My friends and I were trying to be thrifty so we could enjoy everything Vancouver had to offer, so we decided to stay here. Great location but it was a dump with rude, nosy staff. I don’t know about you, but I want to left alone when I come to a hotel unless I ask for your opinion or help. I don’t pay money for people to hassle me. I get that in my own city for free.
Immediately upon walking in, I was shocked that they were charging $ 200 for the night. We had two local friends come meet us at the hotel to get ready with us so that we could go out on the town and explore Vancouver with them. They want you to pay $ 40 extra for your guest to come into the hotel with us. They’re rude and completely in my business. If I want a friend to come over, I don’t pay $ 200 to have 20 questions with some bull$hit excuse that «we should pay now because it’ll be less confusing for the guard.»
Avoid here! You don’t want that kind of a negative experience when you come to explore a city.

The room is cold even when you maximize the heater and the room service is so irregular and irresponsible!
The gym equipment are half broken!
The laundry is too expensive, $ 4 for washing and $ 4 for drying!
The hotel manager is an impolite person, so don’t get shocked if you find him talking to you rudely (he is absolutely uncultured!). Be careful he will look for fake damages in the room to take away money from your deposit when you check out!
The room’s view sucks!
The room and parking keys are not working properly due to its magnetic failure, You’ll need to ask the front desk to recharge them almost everyday, and you may get stuck entering the parking sometimes which is really annoying!
Some rooms have a stove but they have no hood, so even if you cook lightly the smell will go around, and opening the windows wont help!
As a friendly advice, try other hotels nearby if you respect your privacy and comfort!
