iDance is a drop-​in dance & fitness studio for the dancer in all of us! We offer a variety of open-​level dance classes for adults — from Ballet to Hip Hop and Bollywood to Zumba — as well as our very own Dancer’s Body Bootcamp. iDance opened in Vancouver on September 8, 2008 and is «Best Dance Studio — Runner Up!» in The Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver for four years in a row… and counting!

At iDance, we offer the best classes with the best instructors! They are all life-​long dancers and professional group fitness leaders. As natural-​born entertainers and performers, they will have you coming back for more. iDance teachers share our vision to create a non-​intimidating environment where classes are fun and bootcamps are fierce — breaking down the elitest barriers surrounding dance… one class at a time!

Meet the Business Owner

Amanda H.

Business Owner

Amanda comes to iDance Vancouver from the small community of Westerose AB. She is excited to take on the new challenges of being a studio owner.

As a young dancer Amanda practiced at Andy and Tina’s Dance FX, where she studied Al Gilbert Tap Syllabus, RAD Ballet, and a number of different Jazz styles, along with Lyrical, Pointe, Contemporary, and Musical Theatre. Over the last decade, she has traveled to New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Kelowna, Winnipeg, Calgary, Toronto and Edmonton in order to pursue her passion in dance.

In 2006, Amanda was selected into an Emerging Choreographer Mentorship Program, where she studied with Deanne Walsh from Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. Additionally, she has performed in Disneyland, a number of fundraising events such as «Stars of Hope», and was a Canadian National Finalist in 2007. More recently Amanda attended Royal Winnipeg Ballet to further her learning in various ballet styles, as well as anatomy, nutrition and child development.

If you ever had a bad experience at «iDance», this is NOT the same place. Yes, it has the same name, but what a world of difference iDance is now that it is under new ownership.
When I used to go to iDance under the old ownership, it was disorganized, there was no one at the desk, our passes were not being honored, and it felt pretty chaotic. You could even see it in the way the instructors were being treated.
Now though, I absolutely LOVE iDance! This newer location on Broadway has a very friendly, organized staff that are at the front desk. They are very accommodating, and they know how their students and customers deserve to be treated.
The classes I’ve gone to so far are mostly hip hop classes– grooving and house– and the instructors of these classes are phenomenal! Not only are they able to teach at a truly intro level if that is what the class needs, but they also challenge those that need more advanced adaptations to the moves.
Other dance schools advertise intro classes but they are not truly at an intro level or the instructors are not as inspiring. But iDance has a great balance of both.
My mom passed away a few months ago, and honestly, I haven’t been able to find anything that feels worth getting up and out and enjoying life for these days. But EVERY time I go to these classes, they are like magic– they turn my mood, my perspective and my whole day around. Plus I get exercise, get to listen to the most awesome music, and my sense of musicality and my body awareness gets heightened in each lesson.
I highly recommend any classes that are taught by Kyle, Tony, Stu, or Chris at iDance. These instructors are amazing! And I want to thank them, and the NEW iDance, for giving me a bit of peace and fun in my life. You have turned around my whole view of the iDance name, and I will never stop coming to these classes as long as the same positive, inspiring environment that already exists just continues. And I am sure it will. You guys are great! Thank you for making me feel alive again.

Great space, although can be small if the classes are too full (which is why I prefer the morning classes).

This is my second year with an unlimited membership with the studio. The studio at Main and 5th used to accommodate a lot more participants per class and reservation is not necessary. I started my second year membership at the old studio and it was fun. I can drop in and get a work out when I can. Nowadays I have to reserve a week ahead because the studio only has room for 15 guests.
I don’t really understand the unlimited membership when I can’t really get in to the classes. I don’t want to book ahead if I can’t make it, but if I don’t book ahead I have to remember to cancel my booking or else they will charge me $ 15 for no show. There was a day when I was planning to go, on my phone I pressed «check-​in» instead of reserve and then I realized I should have pressed the button for «reserve» on another page instead of «check-​in». I cannot un-«check-in». I called the studio mid-​afternoon but no one answered. I ended up not able to make it because I stayed late at work. I then got an email that says I will be charged $ 15 for no show. I can’t un-​check-​in!!! I didn’t reserve!!! The membership I purchased was for the previous studio and for the fact that I can drop in anytime.
The instructors are good, but it’s harder and harder to get in.

I’ve been going to iDance for about 6 months now. Let me preface this by saying that I had ZERO prior dance experience and ZERO prior exercise/​yoga class experience.
I started with the bootcamp classes, which is the least technical of the bunch. Rae is energetic and pushes you in a nice way. I got a pretty good arm/​core workout from this class and liked the variety that it added to my exercise regimen but decided to move on to other classes.
I next tried cardio salsa which was a major disaster. I found it far too fast and there was very little instruction and I felt like crying for most of the class, flailing at the back of the class. Maybe you need more rhythm to do this one. The instructors were super energetic and talented and probably great if you know what you are doing.
I next tried ballet and ballet barre, and while both were intimidating at first, persistence pays off, and after attending 1x per week for several months I feel as though I’m improving. The ballet classes are true ballet classes and do not include a huge amount of cardio or stretching. You will develop balance, coordination, and tone as you move through the exercises. Delphine is an attentive teacher and is a happy, energetic presence in the room. There are a few men who attend regularly — props to the ballet dudes! Some gals dress up in proper ballet attire, but most just show up in yoga gear with socks.
As for the studio itself, the current front desk staff is great, and the view from the new location is stunning. This is a young business, so expect some hiccups. I had a minor issue with membership due to a mis-​communication with a previous front desk staff member, but the issue was resolved in a timely manner. Classes do fill up, so be sure to reserve your spot ahead of time.

I’ve been here a couple of times for the Bollywood Workout on Thursdays with Karima and had a blast. She’s really personable, funny, and full of energy. She makes everyone quite aware that she’s feeling the burn just as much as her students… so you really don’t have to feel intimidated no matter what your fitness level or dance experience is. It’s just about having fun and getting a good workout. Their new location gets in lots of natural light and faces the mountains, which is a plus. Drop in is $ 15 or you can get a 20 class pass for $ 200.
