I was due for an eye exam and have had many eye exams in the past, as I have poor vision and my eyes were always changing through my teens and early 20s. I came in with a Groupon Voucher and I feel that this could have possibly played into my experience, I don’t know. I felt that my actual exam by the optometrist was not in any way comprehensive or complete but rather«eyeballed» based on the readings from the machines that are done by the optician before going in. It felt like a very partial exam. The optometrist did not even adjust the lenses until I was able to see the 20⁄20 line clearly. I went in hoping to get a stronger prescription as my contacts were giving me some troubles seeing clearly for a while. He took a brief history and spent more time typing away at his computer than the actual exam. Did not test visual fields or ocular eye movements — not that I have issues with my eye movements but any healthcare professional should start from bottom up, especially since I was a new patient there. The optometrist was foreign trained, if that has any bearing at all I do not know. Customer service was okay, friendly people work at the front. However when going to pick up my glasses, I was simply handed my case with glasses. Shouldnt you allow the customer to try on the glasses, see that they fit and make any adjustment to the frames as necessary? Overall disappointed with my exam experience. Was hoping to not have to shop around for a optometrist in the city but looks like I will have to do so. Groupon can do funny things to a business.

I used to have contacts and glasses but I got lasik a few years ago. I’m applying for a job and needed my eyes checked. Dr. Patel and his staff were great. Dr. Patel is easily the nicest eye doctor I have ever had the experience of seeing before. I highly recommended visiting this clinic if you need a checkup or anything.

I felt like my eyes needed to be check as I was seeing something fuzzy and I got an appointment on the day of. All Image Optometry locations charge $ 50 for an eye check-up, which is relatively inexpensive compared to other locations.(You should also check your insurance to see how much you have covered. If you’re an UBC student, you have $ 50 every 2 years for an eye exam!) As I arrived, I waited for about 5 minutes and was taken in to a room by the optician(I believe) to do some measurements. She was kind and explained each step she was going to perform. Then I went back outside and shortly, called in to see Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel was friendly and patient in explaining and answering my questions. As I’m also in the healthcare field, I noticed he was hitting some of the points that would be on my evaluation form. After the eye exam, Dr. Patel instilled several eye drops into my eyes to dilate my pupils. Hence, it’d be a good idea to commute or get a ride from someone if you’re going for the eye exam. There are also a variety of eyeglasses and add-ons to choose from if you do require glasses and the receptionist seemed pleasant in explaining them to me. The good thing is that, I don’t sense any pressure in buying the eyeglasses as I have felt in other optometry shops.
