IRIS Optometry

Great shop. I’ve been coming here since Dr. Renke first opened. Always found him to be very knowledgeable and patient. I’ve purchased progressives, readers, contact lenses and sunglasses here for at least 10 years. No problem with any of my purchases. In fact I never had a decent fit in contacts until I came here. The staff always knows me when I walk in the door. They will bend over backwards. Even a couple of times giving me a pair of contacts to tide me over until the lenses that I ordered late came in. How generous. I once got smacked in the eye and walked in with a shiner and Dr. Renke gave me a eye exam on the house. What a great guy. Thanks to you all.

I’ve been going to have my eyes examined by Dr. Renke for more than 7 years. He is thorough, hospitable and consistent.
Neither he nor his team are pushy. Today’s appointment confirmed that they would rather service their clients honestly than make a quick penny. Love that!

Dr. Renke is very informed, professional and great to deal with. Formerly Kitsilano Optometry and now Iris. I have been coming here for years. Very high tech progressive equipment which Is impressive. Full selection of glasses and sunglasses at reasonable prices. Really great staff to deal with too. Highly recommend.

IRIS provides run-​of-​the-​mill products and services at luxury prices. Luckily I was able to go to The Bay and pay half of what I would have paid at IRIS. Between the poor customer service, limited selection and absurd prices there’s not a whole lot of reason to come here.

I am super grateful that i found this location. initially i found there’s a crack on my lens after i moved to vancouver from calgary. Then I had to fly overseas within 14 days. Although they didn’t promise that i’d get my new pair before I took off, they did try to contact the calgary store and explain everything and made the whole process fast and effective.
I did get my new pair on the day few hours before i leave the country.
Also, it felt heavy on my nose when i wore my old one. After the adjustment on the new pair, my eyeglasses won’t slide off and bite my ears anymore and it only took him 2 tries! and it feels light!
I also want to point out the staff were very helpful and professional. Great brand selections. They didn’t lock the glasses unlike the Iris on Broadway which made me unconformable when asking to unlock every single pair i wanted to try.

I went here because it was a few blocks from my house, just walked in hoping they could squeeze me in for an exam. Nope, not till the next day, but still good for me. I walked home and 10 minutes later the phone rings – they had had a cancellation and could fit in in 30 min. Yay me! And yay them for being nice enough to call back knowing I was eager to get the exam.
My general experience was great. All three people there were super friendly and both Dr. Renke, the optometrist, and Phat, the optician, worked with me to get me contact lenses I was comfortable with (I’m at the edge between two prescriptions and prefer as strong as I can get away with). Another super friendly Vancouver experience!
Btw, I didn’t get glasses this time so I can’t comment on that, but while testing out my new contacts they did seem to have a lot of cool-​looking frames.

I have had ongoing good experiences with Dr. Renke and the competent and friendly staff at Iris.
Dr. Renke has performed several eye exams over the years and they have been thorough and accurate. I have the added advantage of having a brother who is an optometrist in a different city who checks my eyes periodically and corroborates Dr. Renke’s findings.
Through Iris, I have ordered some prescription Maui Jim sunglasses, bought some regular Maui Jim sunglasses, and have had numerous lens prescriptions filled on frames that I have purchased elsewhere. They even recently repaired a pair of my expensive sunglasses with a broken stem on the spot at no cost.
Although this Iris does have a fairly stylish frame selection, I tend to purchase most of my frames in the US for a larger selection and at a significantly reduced cost then what Iris charges (or most Canadian opticians charge).
. The staff at Iris have sometimes helped me to try on some frames in the store, but to their credit I have never felt pressured to buy.
If I could purchase some stylish frames at the US prices at Iris, then this would be a 5 star business.

Never go here– the worst service ever. I got my eyes checked, the tried to upsell me the WHOLE time and said– «Oh– it’s fine to drive after getting your eyes dilated.» Umm no– that is a terrible idea since you can’t see properly. Never go here EVER.

Another update. My very expensive glasses fell off my nightstand onto a hardwood floor. The hinge on the ear piece shattered on impact, leaving me, once again, with unusable eye glasses. In 6 months, I’ve had to pay for 3 separate repairs and, because of how expensive they were, I can’t just leave them unusable. Iris Optometry has sold me a badly made and extremely expensive product.

I had hit and miss experiences here because I had the chance to interact with all three staff. The salesman was mostly great. He gave me loads of space until I found a pair of frames I liked and then suggested similar styles.
The saleswoman was not as good. She just lurked around.
I also got my eyes checked here. They have a fair price for eye exams. When I went in to get my eyes checked the optometrist showed me the clearance glasses they had in the drawers. More than half of the stock is kept in these drawers and the other sales people failed to mention them because they were cheaper frames.

Iris recently took over a small optometry store a few blocks from home. I was nicely surprised that it didn’t lose its neighbourhood feel. Manager Phat Vo was charmingly helpful. Both my hubby and I were looking for prescription sunglasses. We weren’t on a tight budget so it was important that we got what we really wanted. Phat took plenty of time explaining the differences in companies and helping us choose the right styles for our faces. Usually I don’t like having clerks follow me around making suggestions but when it comes to eyeglasses I like a professional opinion on the shape and fit. Their selection is small but covers a decent range of styles, colours and designers. The prices that I saw are higher but I was able to take advantage of a $ 100 cash back offer. I didn’t really look to see if they had less expensive lines as I was ready to splurge on designer frames. I’m an Airmiles collector so I made sure I printed all the coupons I needed. They were worth an extra 300 points — I’m a sucker for bonus Airmiles! I will definitely go back for my next pair of glasses.
