Love this place, it’s always packed out, in a good way. JJ Bean is still my favourite coffee in Van, they also bake delicious muffins and this spot is the best for people watching. The staff are usually genuinely nice and friendly, no pretentious hipster vibes. The almond milk latte is actually good too! Creamy and frothy — you can barely tell the difference. Oh yeah, and you get a free drip coffee when you buy a bag of beans!

This JJ Bean location is super cozy and the staff are really nice. Its usually pretty busy, but I’ve always been able to find a seat. The coffee is amazing of course, and the baked goods always look so fresh and good. As they do at every JJ Bean I’ve been to. Great location on The Drive, I’ll be back soon I’m sure.

This is my favourite JJ Beans in town. The staff all know my group by name and order, and the pastries are delicious. I like to go for the vegan muffins because I find them more moist then the oatmeal ones. I’m not a big coffee drinker so I usually go for the chai, which is a great balance between sweet and spicy

A bit pricey, but the drinks and pastries are really good! I got a london fog and a chocolate chip cookie, which were both delightful. The interior was a little crowded but I didn’t wait too long for my drink. Then I went outside and sipped on my tea and people-watched under the sun! So much fun.

This is one of my fav haunts in the area. Coffee and food and service are fantastic. I am however very disappointed that after it had been brought to manavendra attention several times by numerous people I know that the issue of accessibility hasn’t been addressed. Most of the seating inside is high tables with a handful of normal tables. Most coffee shops that have this do have a marked accessible table since having someone in a wheelchair trying to drink a coffee or eat with there food at eye level Is not fun nor is having to try and get people to move. This location also is now one of the few that doesn’t have wifi and has no where to plug in your laptop. In case you where thinking of getting some work done with a coffee there, might consider going somewhere else. Then there is the lack of management of a group of regulars who commonly block the back exit so tight with vehicles that someone with a wheelchair or stroller can’t get past and they often stand smoking in front of the door preventing anyone at all from getting through. Yet in the two years I have been going here almost daily for my works coffee runs nothing has been done about this either. God forbid there is a fire. So that said if you do not require accessibility, a casual work space to have a coffee or a usable emergency exit and want great coffee and great treats whilst hoping there’s no fire(which yes is a given) then great spot to go!

JJ Bean, where have you JJ been all my life? Oh! You’ve been here, on the corner of Commercial and 6th. Both more realistic and far more consistent in its output than celebrity rival JJ Abrams, the JJ Bean on Commercial Drive offers good coffee, passable«hot» chocolate and some pretty tasty cookies. Its opening hours trump both Prada and Starbucks so, while it may not win the taste sprint against either, it is victorious when it comes to endurance events. Of all the cafés I’ve visited in my long and storied life, this is the one that features the most sweeping up. I have never been to another place where I’ve seen more sweeping up and the JJ Bean staff here just love sweeping the floor which, somehow, always has more *stuff* on it that needs sweeping up. Watch your feet. Sadly, it lacks wifi, but this simply means it attracts a certain kind of guest and you’ll find quite a few people here reading, talking quietly or, some days, you may spot a grizzled hulk who looks a lot like the Drive’s own local bounty hunter. Don’t look him in the eye and you can both continue about your business.

JJ Bean is just my jam. In my opinion they make the best mocha. I would also highly recommend their chocolate zucchini muffin and cinnamon roll. YUMS OH the only downside is there is no wifi.

I’m not a coffee«snob» — honest. I admit I choose with reckless abandon mild or medium roast with the same no-clue knowledge or preference when ordering beer elsewhere. Wait. Should I admit that? (Yes. I’m that gal who doesn’t know what a stout is, has a vague clue what guiness is but often orders whatever is on «special». I’m generally a one or two pint max kinda gal — yeah I’m a lightweight). Anyhow what I do know is coffee is coffee. It’s better than tea and sometimes some coffee houses serve a brew that is overly bitter or burnt-tasting. This location is a great place to have a coffee — but not to use your smartphone or electronic WiFi needing device because they’re too behind the times to install a router. Which sucks. I would have hoped they can set themselves apart from waves or blend by simply being a classy, local, happening vibe kinda hotspot yet the barista I asked about it seemed to think the lack of wifi made them better than the aforementioned student campout caffeine providers. I’ve enjoyed their peanut butter-type square, found not one but two indecently long(not mine) hairs in a chocolate chocolate cookie once(barista wasn’t apologetic or even trying to make me feel better about noshing into that ick) however the cautious other cookie I picked completely apart weeks later was good. So know that if it’s coffee and attitude you’re seeking — you found it here. Certainly not wifi.

Two in One review. My Friend PJ’s review: A place so nice, they named it twice. JJ Bean on commercial has a welcoming ambiance. Greeted by Charmaine, we were efficient, yet delightfully served with fresh, aromatic coffee with tasty treats. Mine: This is place full of life. I enjoyed soya latte which was pretty tasty with their Oates bar. I feel prices point is some what high. They dont provide wifi which is not cool.

The vegan muffins and cookies are delicious. I am not a coffee fan but would like to enjoy a cup, I once inquired and ended up with a caramel café almond late(with 2 shots coffee). It was not my favourite and I would not order that again, but I will not hold that against them because both the cashier and myself didn’t really know what I would like/dislike. I plan on coming back and trying another type of coffee.

Strong drip coffee, rich & hearty baked goods(many veg & vegan!), friendly service, great ambience, and the perfect people-watching patio make this my go-to coffee date spot. No wifi, but that means there’s higher turnover and a more intimate and friendly neighbourhood atmosphere rather than students camped out for hours.

This was a solo trip and I ordered the following: Dark Roast Railtown Vegan Double Chocolate Cookie For the dark roast, this was a smokey blend with a slight roast to it. I liked that it didn’t taste very acidic and I could get a full bean taste with each sip. I thought the top could have been less foamy and there was some coffee bean debris at the bottom but that’s quite normal for a quick coffee. Compared to Starbucks I’d say the coffees are at about the same quality but leagues ahead of Tim Horton’s. Prado Café might give this place a run for its money though. JJ Bean takeout cups do have the luxury of having a Vancouver-inspired design if you are into showing off where your coffee comes from. The Vegan Double Chocolate Cookie went a lot better than I thought. I was having mad choco-cravings and opted for this even though it was vegan. It was quite chewy and had a chocolatey taste in both the dough and chips. I didn’t see any non-vegan options for this so if you love chocolate this cookie is a good choice.

JJ Bean is a great place to grab a coffee, and damn are their baked goods delicious! I’ve been coming here sporadically for a few years, and I really enjoy their coffees and London fogs. The interior is definitely a little rustic, and well used — this place is ALWAYS busy! I used to stop by around 8am some mornings and there never fails to be a pretty decent line. The staff aren’t always the most chatty, likely because they’re so busy, but they’re efficient and always get your coffee prepared quickly. It’s tough to find a spot to sit, but if you can jump on one of the tables hold on tight and don’t let go! The baked goods are insane, and one of those muffins will feed you for a week! They definitely have the basics down pat — great food, great coffee, and a unique space. Check it out!

First time here and within minutes of entering enjoy polite conversation with another patron. The people all seem to be friendly including staff. The ice mocha is giving me a slight boost & while the banana bread isn’t totally fresh for 9am it is large and tasty. Very busy even for a Sunday morning! One downside, very limited power supplies.

Loved the service and the overall atmosphere of the joint. The hot chocolate was almost too beautiful to drink… too bad you can’t frame liquids. Can definitely see why people treat this place as a neighbourhood coffee shop!

Returned to J J after a couple of years absence, to meet up with a pal from yesteryear. Ordered a small steamed milk, no flavour shot, and the barista was so sweet. He asked if he could do a design with cocoa. No, that’s okay. Oh, he said, I love the challenge of working with milk! And there was my milk with a very beautiful design! No other café ever offers to create a design on steamed milk, ever!

With it’s big garage door style windows that bring the outside in(weather permitting) High wood beam ceilings and a casual rustic, industrial interior, JJ Bean is warm and welcoming. Plenty of seating inside and out. Great coffees, great muffins. Their wraps and sandwiches are just ok. Definitely a great place to sit and take in the colorful diverse vibes that the drive has to offer.

i came in here many years ago, to play scrabble with a girl I chatted with briefly off the internet. The game was intense, the conversation nonexistent, and our ‘date’ ended as it began– as strangers. What I learned then, I will share with you: Rule 1– never become so competitive that the game means more than the opponent. Rule 2– if rule 1 fails, try to make your word list saucy, and see if THAT starts a conversation. Rule 3: Rule 1 may be broken if game involves body contact(pool, basketball, foosball doubles) Atmosphere wise, I would say it is loud, but not too loud, friendly, and popular. And if you need a scrabble date???
