Luke’s has a pretty good happy hour for drinks. But the food itself is sub-par. Oily calamari, truffle fries that were limp and flavourless, and the whipped chick peas(a fancy way of saying hummus) were watery and unappetizing. When there are so many other places in the city to go to for happy hour, why go here? The saving grace was the service from Angela that we received. She is so personal and fantastic. Too bad the restaurant couldn’t match her personality.

I enjoy coming to Luke’s for the weekend breakfast. The patio is nice and the service generally good. I have come here many times but must admit I’ve only eaten the Breakfast BELT Sourdough Sandwich– it hits the spot, and I refuse to change my order. Crunchy, chewy sourdough, chipotle mayo with just a little bite, tomato bacon, egg(I do wish I had asked for a soft friend egg as its always served hard) and arugula. The breakfast potatoes are delicious, with a crispy, crunchy exterior, fluffy inside and are well seasoned. Luke’ is a breakfast staple for me.

Had lunch here with my sister after a day of shopping. Dining options are quite limited on south Granville. We sat on the patio, which was nice. Service was good and the drinks were tall. We had Luke’s blueberry lemonade which was very refreshing. The tuna tartare was fresh and the sweet potato chips were very large and greasy. My sister had the chicken club. It had a lot of ingredients but the bread was dry and the hummus didn’t really fit in. The skinny fries were good. Overall, it’s a decent place for bite.

I would never come back. Host — make sure the table is cleared and cleaned before escorting the guests to the table. We don’t want to hover over the table like homeless people while you clear dirty dishes and wipe the table with the same dirty cloth. We have witnessed that this happened to every new customer escorted to their table. Server — act professional. Stop ignoring your customers for 10 minutes without any acknowledgement, not even offering water, not even setting the table with plates and cutlery. Again, still feeling like homeless people so far. Kitchen — why do we have to wait an hour for a salad and hash browns… yes I timed it. My meter ran out and our foods still hasn’t been served. I didn’t know you had to grow, cultivate, and harvest but only to serve a few leaves into an overpriced salad and cafeteria mediocrity during a quiet 2pm Sunday lunch service. Server — hello? are you still there? I’ve asked for the bill 3 times. Remember me? I had to meet you at your POS terminal just so you don’t have to go out of your way to bring me the bill. My experience — if the Server is wondering now… No…I didn’t enjoy the«early dinner» that your kitchen served me. The entire pasta plate was left untouched. Clearly, you didn’t check on us, otherwise, you would have known that we were not enjoying the food nor the service. Making a living is hard and I’m sure you work hard. I paid my bill and tipped you. Please give me your customers some courtesy of good food and service. It’s evident that this restaurant is not in it for the long-run. Does anybody who actually cares work at this restaurant? This restaurant is not fitting to be on Granville street among the best eateries in the neighbourhood.

Very accommodating to our huge group. After apparently getting a bit too rowdy at a friend’s housewarming, we decided to give the neighbours a break and pop in here. We were a large gaggle and they were quick to accommodate us, as they were quite quiet at this time on a Friday night(11ish, I think?) We ordered a few pitchers of beer from the server, who was very new and very nice. The beer on special was fine, lager is never my first choice for beer, but it was reasonably priced. Boyfriend ordered a pitcher of Fat Tug and that’s where my jaw dropped — the pitcher was $ 24($ 27 with tax), which seems outrageous to me. There was live music, which was nice, and service was good, but with pitchers that steep I don’t know that I’d come back.

Hey, lots of mediocre reviews! My Hanger Steak was excellent, served with red onion rings & kale Caesar salad was tasty. No major complaints. The raspberry mojito was rather mediocre. The servers were pleasant, but not caring.

I’m glad this place is here– there’s a need for a casual patio/bar type place on this area of South Granville. Is it amazing? Certainly not. Is service ‘good enough’ and do they have specials that I feel okay about? Sure. The more I come here the more ‘meh’ I feel about it. I thought it was fabulous when it first opened because this area REALLY needs more bars and the place that was here before was just some sorta terrible. But the more I come back here the more I continue to be unimpressed. Everything is just okay and I never feel like I’m getting value– but I guess I shouldn’t really look for value on South Granville. I’d say come here if you’re in the area or live in the area, but if you can I’d go 10 blocks in a different direction and try something else. This place is good for happy hour buck a shuck and cheap sleeves of something I never want to drink. 2 star place. ½ star up for the location ½ star up for good buck a shuck oysters. = 3 Stars.

I found a hair in my gravy and returned my meal. I was brought the same meal with new gravy but then a minute later found another hair in my ketchup. The server was lovely but I find that extremely unsanitary and have never experienced that before. I did receive a voucher from the GM who was lovely though. These things happen so I don’t suggest never going here but wanted to share my experience.

I must say at first a was taken aback by the negative reviews of Luke’s. The staff was amazing from start to finish, we were celebrating my birthday and they took every possible opportunity to make us very happy! It was a sunny Friday afternoon and of course we wanted the patio, it was packed. they were very accommodating. We had made a reservation for 6 and we understood that the patio is first come first served. We we seated inside until there was two tables available for us. They had the patio server help us inside so when we moved to the patio everything was kept in step. the GM was wonderful and our server was really top notch! The other servers even slowed down to show us some of the other meals going by us they understood it was our first time there. We had the calamari, it was cooked beautifully so super tender. Also had the chicken tacos, definitely recommended. We were there for happy hour because they have buck a shuck oysters. We had two dozen and due to the popularity they ran out before we could order another dozen. It was busy and the fact they run out means that the oysters are brought in daily. So if you are like us and will eat lots, order them all first and have them just bring them out as you wish. Love this place and it will be our regular spot for here on out!

I have now eaten here a few more times. It’s growing on me. The food isn’t the best — often very«pub-like» food(i.e., often deep fried and huge portions). However, the ambience is good and the staff are attentive and even humorous at times. I’ve also moved into the neighbourhood so I will now go more often and possibly it will someday reach 4 stars!

The atmosphere was nice with a great outdoor seating space, but the service was quite slow and the fish tacos were quite bland. The hubs had the chicken club and he was fairly underwhelmed with the sandwich.

Maddeningly inconsistent. Some days the food is great and the service is fast(I do like the Diane’s Choice quinoa salad) and others, you’re waiting an hour on a weekday for your lunch order, or you’re staring at a bland pile of unflavoured, hastily fried hashbrowns that bear no resemblance to the last brunch you ordered. I live and work nearby, and have been probably a dozen times over the last couple of years, each time experiencing widely varying levels of quality. It’s time for me to break up with Luke’s; I can’t take the way it will build me up just to knock me back down again. Drink/oyster specials are decent prices though, if you’re looking for a quick happy hour snack – not sure how badly they could possibly screw that one up.

Love the location. 2 blocks from home! We have been a handful of times and the service is always really great. Their servers are down to earth and really funny. OMGTHEIRYAMFRIESTHOUGH. seriously, the best yam fries I’ve ever had. Hands down. Don’t know how they do it! The first time we visited I had the taco hash which was fantastic other than the eggs were over cooked. But when you’re starving an egg’s an egg. My partner had the chicken club which was suuuuper tasty. The other night we shared calamari. Slightly over-greasy but some of the best calamari I’ve had for sure. Love the minced onion and jalapeño all over it! The wild mushroom and goat cheese burger was very tasty — they do not hold back on the goat cheese! The quesadilla was spot on. Light, fresh, and with the mango in it… mmmmmmm. Luke’s is a simple restaurant with great service, fresh ingredients and a nice, friendly vibe. Check it out!

Came here for brunch on a Sunday around noon and the place was half empty. We ordered the Veggie Hash and the Breakfast BELT Sandwich, which is a BLT with a fried egg. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food. We watched the kitchen send out 1 to 2 plates every 5 to 8 minutes(yes, we actually turned the waiting into a game and timed it). The restaurant still wasn’t full at the time and they seemed to be fully staffed, so the kitchen must just really slow. When we did finally get our food, we were very underwhelmed. The breakfast potatoes weren’t crispy at all and were quite mushy and flavourless. The veggie hash came with a cold tomato on top and more lukewarm and soggy veggies below. My Belt sandwich tasted ok but much like what I make at home in less than 10 minutes. My brunch mate hates wasting food and it was the first time I’ve seen him leave more half the plate uneaten. We would’ve sent our food back to the kitchen if we could find our server or if we didn’t have somewhere else to be. The server disappeared after taking our order and never came by to update us on the wait time for our food or refill our water glasses. The restaurants at this location don’t seem to last long so I expect that will be the case for Luke’s. It is probably a decent place to watch games or sit on the patio on a sunny day. But I would suggest eating before coming here and just getting drinks — I didn’t try any drinks but it’s hard to really mess up on beers.

I’m guessing this place’s popularity is a combination of being a nice looking venue, in a neighbourhood with not many alternatives,… and the proximity to the Stanley(when I was there, the entire place was full of show goers). The service is «ok», but the food came slow. The menu, in my opinion is overpriced for what you get, but perhaps being in the rich«South Granville» strip commands more(to pay the rent I’m sure!). The food itself is uninspired. It is not bad,. just standard stuff, nothing for foodies and the menu is pretty limited(like most pubs). The thing is this place looks more like a restaurant than a pub(for example the Academic), so I expect the food to be better, and cheaper(ie. subsidized by beer). Neither are true, but now that I think of it,. the food is probably better than standard pub fare, and there are multiple salads(maybe like Browns?). Ok veggie burger, but if you are going that route for health reasons(heart issues or fitness goals), be warned, it is fried and oily. Now, the part I really hated: the music. Wow, it was bad. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not just some guy that hates country and they only played country or something,… across 3 or 4 genres they played embarrassing music, and loud. The crowd was not a loud crowd, some elderly people actually. One song that sticks out was a cover of Van Halen, performed to sound identical(but not the original),. why? It was a deal breaker and it seemed like there was no escaping it as there is a speaker over damn near every table. And remember folks, 2 stars on Unilocal just means«Meh, I’ve experienced better», not that it is inexcusably horrible. And I’ve had better.

Came here for DineOut Vancouver last night with a group of 9. Not really impressed — with both food and service. Our server was nice, but when drinks were served, one of the drinks was completely forgotten and she had to go check with the bar and they just completely missed it Same thing happened when it was time for dessert, all but one of the desserts were served and we had to physically call the server back over because she didn’t even stop by to check on us after it was served. I personally had the Caesar Salad — not bad but the anchovies are salty and kind of ruin the salad’s overall taste AND they were substitutes for croutons… how do you do a caesar salad without croutons? I opted for the Steak & Frites — the server didn’t bother to ask me how I wanted the steak(I was under the impression that the norm is that they should ask you when you order steak but maybe I’m wrong because I rarely eat steak). The Steak was not bad pretty moist and the fries are your average bar fries. Nothing special. And the«Arugula salad» is one piece of sun-dried tomato and just leaves… For dessert I had the Caramelized pineapple cake — nothing amazing… it was just a sponge cake with canned pineapple on top and caramel drizzled on the plate underneath. Nothing to write home about. Some of the people in my party ordered the sea bass — which was flavourless and it still had the skin on it which was a gross texture. Overall — I thought the service was below average, atmosphere was so-so, and the food was like something you could buy frozen at Walmart and then warm up on a lonely Saturday night. Definitely wouldn’t recommend unless I was stranded on Granville and it was the only thing open.

I won’t lie, I did look at the reviews first before coming here, this wasn’t my choice, and I had an informal business meeting. As this place was close to the person’s office I let them have the choice of where to go and this was the place. I can say after my meeting and meal, it is better than what the overall score is showing, for my experience that is. When you walk into this place, it’s actually pretty nice, from the look of it, you’ve walked into a type of place like this place before, throw in abit of Rogue Kitchen and Cactus, it’s a cross between the two, it doesn’t look cheap, actually feels stylish from the use of colors, bright whites with dark wood tones. We were greeted quite quickly by the host, and were seated right away for lunch. On this day, it wasn’t that busy, 12’ish was the time we walked in and I really didn’t know what to eat, and the person I was with suggested I try their veggie burger. Put the order in with a caesar salad with sauce on the side, and the wait begins. Even before our food came, the service was definitely top notch, with our waitress always attending to keeping our water refilled, and understanding that this was a work lunch and not really pushing the point of beverages, but I can see this place as a good watering hole at the same time. While I was waiting for the food I noticed the nice booth seating, the tv’s all around(if you ever needed to catch a game and drink, let alone eat here!), and the natural light that was coming into this place. It never had that dim feel, which is nice. I was surprised at the size of the burger, this thing was big and tall, with the pattie almost looking like an inch thick, topped off with a nice thick fresh tomato and fresh greens, this thing was a meal that I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to finish. I was looking at the pattie, and it was not dense like some other veggie patties I have had at other restaurants. Made out of quinoa, mushrooms, egg, and cheese, the only problem I had was the crumbling, and wish it would stay together a bit more as some bits fell on my pants, in the end it was good, and I polished this thing off… and was stuffed! The salad was in a nice bowl with the sauce on the side. I have to say for my experience here, it was pretty good, service was always attentive, always asking us how our meal was, and refilling the water consistently. Would I come back, if I am around this part of time I would definitely think of this place, whether to sit around with some bites and liquid and try their other things on the menu. On the burger side, there was an emphasis on their organic beef burger, maybe I’ll do that, or maybe I’ll just go different as I saw things like omelettes(brunch on the weekend), pasta, salad’s, and some appetizers, granted I was only here at lunch, and before leaving I took a peek at the dinner menu. Would return!!! A tip — Just remember, this is Granville Street, parking is a premium, if you don’t mind, park a little farther and you can find free spots, but if you don’t, make sure to pay the meter, I got busted not too long ago and missed the dude by 5 minutes… so they are lurking!
