Good food and prices, friendly staff, free covered parking(If there is space) Noisy in the Bar on games nights, and on Band nights in the lounge. Sit in the outside patio in the summer and watch the street go by !

This place is really cute! Their bar is so pretty and it’s huge(take note, good for parties). They have happy hour from 3−6pm and they have some pretty good specials — $ 3 beer/wine and food specials as well. We ordered drinks and calamari and wings. I thought the food was really good. Although the wings were more just honey than honey and garlic. The portions were pretty big and everything came our SUPER fast. Had a friend reunion here and we were being really annoying and taking forever and our waitress didn’t get mad at us. Sorry! It’s really cozy here and whether you are at the bar or in a booth, there are good beverages to be drank and good conversations to be had.

Went here on Halloween night. It was pretty quiet. Our server was a little eccentric. I ordered a Blue Lagoon, and before handing it to me our sever said ‘we often get feedback that the drink doesn’t seem like much’ and she was right. There was about 2.5 oz of liquid total in it, for $ 7. If you have received this feedback, why don’t you change it? Overall it was a good place to grab a drink in a quiet location, but I probably will not be back due to the service. We waited a long time for our bill even though it was very quiet. We could see our server standing behind the bar talking to another server while our drinks were empty.

Had a $ 3 beer for happy hour along with their calamari, hot wings and a mushroom burger to share. The service was fine especially since it wasn’t too busy nor empty on the patio. The food though… not good. Calamari was crispy but was rubbery and lacked flavour; even lacked salt. The tzatziki didn’t do much for it and needed garlic. The hot wings were overbreaded and dry. The burger also lacked flavour but was at least juicy. Not impressed with the $ 40 bill for this meal.

We decided to go to this place ’cause it was within walking distance of where we were located. Even though it was a Saturday night, we had just finished up at the gym and were mainly looking for some eats. The place had a band playing that sounded mediocre though my boyfriend didn’t mind them. It was too loud though. The display case in the bar area looks cool. The server was helpful and even though I exchanged a drink I didn’t like he didn’t mind. There was a large birthday party at the back and they seemed to be having a decent time. Other than that crowd, there were only a couple of other people. The ambiance, menu, food and drinks were all average. This is more of a practical place to go than anything else.

Worst slowest service ever. The restaurant was empty and after 20 min of waiting for a Shirly temple I walked up to the waitress who said the bar tender doesn’t know what’s in it. When the food finally arrived the lemon prawns were bland and cold and my beet salad was wilted and bland. This is my second time coming to this place and the first time it was bad too but I thought I’d give it another try but never again. It was horrible. Big thumbs down

I was pleasantly surprised by how happy I have been each time I’ve dined at the Speakeasy. Acknowledging that this is a pub, the food is very decent. I was exceptionally surprised by the quality of their eggs benedict. I’ve also tried their appetizers and burgers and have absolutely zero compliant about the quality of the food. The wait staff have also been great across all my visits, giving this place a solid 4 stars!

I was here with a few colleagues on Friday June 26. We had the worst service– we let the girl who seated us that we had a time constraint. 17 minutes later our server finally appears… We ordered our drinks and food and again mentioned out time constraints… Another 10 minutes went by before our drinks came. And then another 15 for the food(that’s 25 minutes for 2 chicken salads and a chicken sandwich). About 45 minutes of a 60 minute lunch wasted– we all work up at VGH Nd were displeased. The server never checked on us and I asked 3 times to get the bill and have out food packed to take away! I already had my card out to pay when she came back. Threw my food onto the table and promptly walked away! I finally had enough end went up to the bartender to pay our non-existent server. I felt like the bartender also had a belligerent attitude and said that we would have to wait for the server… I explained that if we couldn’t pay her we would leave without paying because we were already going to be late getting back to our clinics. The bartender rolled her eyes and said she would find the server. Total time waiting to pay an additional 17 minutes! None of us will be back… Not will we order from the establishment for office lunches and we will also share our thoughts with other colleagues! Shame on all of you for the lack of service… And you can’t blame it on being busy. There was one other table inside, one man who sat at the bar and one table on the patio!!!

The place was not even 50% full, however as I walk in I’m almost bowled into by a server. However I am promptly seated outside and given menus. After 10m he takes my order, a double mojito and fries. Took about 15min to arrive. As a party of one, I did not have the witty banter of friends to occupy me and wasn’t really looking to sit around. Was a bit surprised at the wait given the simplicity of the order and the fact that it wasn’t that busy. Mojito arrives, no ice… and is probably 90% soda… the fries are plentiful, a bit dry, but hot. I had to ask for napkins, was not offered cutlery, or ‘perks’ such as vinegar, salt or pepper. Better off at rogue down the street

First time here. Will be my last. Ordered the Philly cheese steak. Forgot to put mushrooms on the sandwich. She didn’t even know that it was supposed to be on the sandwich. Ignored me when I asked to come over I think they where trying to rip me off. Then she gets mushrooms put on the other half that I had not eaten yet of course the fries and sandwich was now cold. Would not recommended this place.

They charge for drink refills and charged me for a side of mayo to dip my fries in. This alone makes them deserve one star!

I avoided going to the Speakeasy because of the bad reviews and that was a mistake. I went in for the first time two weeks ago and its now my ‘go to’ place. The food has been good and, unlike other reviewers, I think the prices aren’t too bad. I really like their pizzas. I think the one pitfall is the speed of service. I would say on average it takes about 5 min after sitting down before a server greets us and offers us menus. Once the process has started everything is spot on.

Terrible terrible terrible! worst service ever. Ruined my friends retirement party. The waitress stole from us as the the tip was already included due to group size.

Stella on tap tasted stale. The steak was horrible, didn’t even finish my serving. For what they charge, I expected better. With Rogue a block away, I’ll never return to this place. Never again.

I’m not sure how you mess up fish and chips but what should have been the crispy outer breading was spongy. The fries were okay but it’s also difficult to mess up fries. Their house ale was also very subpar. I believe they might have just mixed Bud Light and Coors in the back.

Went here as it was right across from my hotel and a family member suggested it. Nothing extrodinary but I can not complain either. I got a pizza and was very good my girlfriend got a sandwich and was ok. Had a pretty decent beer and alcohol selection love Granville Island so I had to get 2 of those of course. Sat on the patio but the inside looked pretty cool as well. Only complaint was that service was slow, and for about 10 minutes our waitress disappeared so it took a while to get the check. Other than this food was fine and a very convenient location as well.

I am honestly glad I didn’t Unilocal this place before coming. I would not have come due to the star rating. But Unilocal was wrong. I honestly don’t know why it has such negative reviews! My friend and I came here after we got done with work one evening and we were greeted immediately and asked if we wanted to sit inside or out. We choose to sit outside as it was a nice evening. Our waitress had great service. She was very friendly and made conversation regarding the pies we were brining with us that we had just picked up from next door. When we ordered I had inquired about something having meat in it. She asked if I was looking for a vegetarian option. I had said I was but told her not to go out of her way. She offered to ask the chef if he could make the pasta dish I wanted without the meat. She came back quickly and the chef had agreed. It was so kind of her. The food was really good too — The pasta was spot on and I appreciated the service. We also had a pitcher of white wine sangria. It hit the spot for sure. The only downside was the price for the pasta and pitcher was a bit steep. But that being said I had a good experience here and I’m glad I came here BEFORE Unilocaling. So if you are reading the reviews — Give it a shot — My experience at Speakeasy was very pleasant!

My experiences here always vary and I’ve been maybe 5 – 6 times in the past year. They’re never especially great, but I’ve never had one that’s been too bad. One downside is that it’s a difficult place to, say, have a lunch time meeting. It’s loud in the pub/lounge area and boring in the back. The service is spotty — sometimes there’re the longer waits when the restaurant is generally empty, sometimes it’s standard. It’s never great, usually average. It’s not a destination, but not a place I avoid. Pretty meh, overall, for me.

I’ve been to Speakeasy a few times on Broadway. It’s actually in a good location(really close to the 99 B-Line bus stop at Willow Street) and there’s tons of seating inside. However, there’s a lot of problems with Speakeasy. Mostly, the beer and alcohol is quite expensive. I split a pitcher of the«Speakeasy Lager» with two friends, and the pitcher cost us $ 20, which is quite expensive for their house beer. The service here is mediocre at best. We really had to work hard to flag down our server every time I’ve been here. It shouldn’t be that hard to get service in a bar that’s half full at best. Also, the location of TV’s is really poor if you’re sitting near the back of the restaurant. We came here for the second half of the Superbowl game, and we could barely see the game on the TV. Overall, there’s a reason this bar is quiet even on the weekends. I really don’t want to come off as whiny, but there are so many better bars and restaurants within walking distance of the Speakeasy Bar & Grill.
