I’m afraid I have to concur with the other negative reviews. It was so delightful to see an Indian food place open up on the campus. On my first visit, the naan(one of my favourite parts of an Indian meal) was stale. There was a menu with various combo deals. But I just wanted to pick exactly one or two things, with an extra piece of naan. But the server refused to sell me this! It wasn’t on their«menu» so I didn’t get what I wanted, despite the trays of food being right in front of our eyes! There was previously a tiny Indian place in the basement food court nearby – I am sad to see that it is no longer there…

This place is an absolute mess. I gave them many chances due to the shortage of Indian food in UBC, and each time was met with a plate of cold, bland disappointment. When the staff is not too busy on the phone, the service is rude, impatient, and inattentive. The place is filthy. The counters are greasy, floors are sticky, and the restaurant is home to a thick cloud of fruit flies. And the food — the one thing that could offset these short comings — is lacklustre at best. Their butter chicken is dry, flavourless, and evidently more than a few days old. Worst of all, the serving size is tiny. For the love of God, don’t eat here. Even the UBC deli at the SUB has better, cheaper Indian food.

Disappointing given the main Maurya restaurant is much better. The food was served cold, the eating counter was dirty, one staff was sitting and eating and the other was in the back. I asked for one of the 2 curries and they said they did not have it just the chicken curry; the chicken was tender and tasteless. The vegetable was cold and the salad was there so they put all of it back in the steamer and voila warm– ish chicken and warm salad. no dressing. All this for $ 9 and you get a pop. whoo hoo. If you need to fill up for food go to Vera’s next door.

I got there just before they closed so my food could have been warmer, but the food was much better than the other stuff we found around campus. This area of town is not great for food.

Was looking for some decent Indian food near UBC and went here. If you are looking for the same I would advice against it. Portion sizes are on the smaller side for the amount that is being charged and what made matters worse was that the Chick Pea Curry that I ordered had gone bad before I took my first bite — I suddenly wasn’t hungry anymore. For everyone else craving a bit of Indian — hold out, you deserve better.
