This place has got a sour attitude. The first thing I heard when I walked in was the manager shouting at an employee about the state of the cold storage – right in front of customers passing by! Then again, the beers were horribly misplaced, which made the tasting notes confusing. Then the employee at the counter shoved me aside as I was just trying to put my bottle in my bag. Serious attitude problem, and it shows.

I went in last night to pick up a single IPA beer(their selection and pricing is good, not complaining) and I handed the cashier my California ID, which he then asked to verify with a US credit card. I gave him my card and he spent a while typing away at his computer before asking me what high school I went to in my hometown. Since I didn’t actually go to high school in my hometown I couldn’t answer the question so I gave him my BC CareCard with my birthday on it so I could get my beer and get out of the store. He spends another minute typing away before asking me what color my house is. What the hell? He looked up my house on Google Streetview to verify my identity! I felt like this was a pretty big violation of my privacy to be looking up my house and getting images of it after I had handed him three pieces of identification. I understand the need to be careful with foreign IDs but there are a hell of a lot of other ways of going about it. The management really needs to do some training with their employees.

Overall, a pretty awesome beer and wine store! They have a great selection of wine and craft beer, along with your basic liquor and beer selection. The staff are laid back and play cool music. They are also open pretty late(til 10PM most nights), so are a great later-night alternative to the BC Liquor at 4th and Alma.
