I also have to lower the stars rating from my previous review because of the change in management and their poor service! I’ve given them numerous chances and it never got any better regardless of how busy it was inside. They never check back on you or refill your cups, I even had to get up to get their attention when I wanted to pay for my bill. To top off, the bill rounded up to $ 29& the lady didn’t even offer to give me change when I gave her $ 35. No, I am not obligated to tip you and I was not going to tip you 20% for the poor service!

Friendly service, reasonable prices, most importantly above average sushi quality for the price point makes this the most solid Sushi in Marpole. Each time I’ve gone there is guaranteed friendly service and fast delivery of sushi to my mouth. This makes me and my stomach happy. Thumbs up to: –Never busy. Not sure why but every time I go in there I’m either the only person or one other party. –All Nigiri’s are $ 1. Now they don’t have fancy stuff, but I do like that everything basic is $ 1 and in combo’s that have nigiri’s, they have no problem doing a substitute(damn you masago!). Also the slice of fish completely covers the rice so you can’t even see it. –Dynamite rolls — TWO prawn tempura pieces in the roll, just the way I like it. –Mango — if you like it, try the Mango Crunch Roll. Thumbs Down to: –Always having Korean Drama’s on the TV. I never know what’s going on and this upsets me slightly. Why are they fighting/crying/laughing?!?

We totally got lucky on this one. As we were leaving Vancouver, we decided we’d better stop for lunch before crossing the border to Washington state in case the lines were long, and my husband just pulled over and pointed to this place. I saw the«sushi» sign and the Visa logo, and said sure. Tiny little sushi spot, but very fast and very delicious! We sat at the only table there(the rest is just the counter by the sushi chef) and had way too much food for a very reasonable price! I had the tuna sashimi and was served a plate of thick slices of fatty tuna(the light colored stuff, not the pink kind). It was like buttah… melted in my mouth. Also a huge bowl of edamame. Hubby had the spicy tuna rolls which had 8, I think. Huge, tasty, fresh, but not very spicy. Kiddo had a bento box and we all had bits from that, and still couldn’t finish it. Everything was very very good.

This is a great place if your looking for a place for a light nosh. It’s convenient for me because they’re in the neighborhood. Their rolls are pretty good however, can’t say I would recommend their bento boxes. The meat portion tastes not fresh, like it was pre-made then reheated and is tough/overcooked especially the chicken. If you order takeout make sure you check your order to see if you’ve gotten your whole order. The last time my boyfriend ordered takeout they forgot one of his sushi rolls. The bento box he ordered the chicken was tough and the lettuce in the salad was a little brown(not fresh). If it weren’t for that I would give them 4 stars. All in all: Service: is friendly Food: sushi is great, haven’t tried their ramen but the bento-box could use some revamping. Prices: seem reasonable.

I decided to have dinner here just before heading to the airport as the reviews were pretty good compared to the other eating establishments around the area. It was promising enough when I stepped in and the waitress was very friendly and is the reason why I’m given 2 stars instead of 1. I tried the Tonkotsu Ramen, Spicy Tuna Roll and BC Roll. Needless to say I was very disappointed. The ramen was bland and the egg in the ramen tasted stale, like it had been out there for too long. And despite the raving reviews I saw about the Spicy Tuna Roll, I must say I’m disappointed. The tuna inside was just a little spicy and they added some sort of mayo and spicy sauce on the roll. The BC roll was not tasty. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I definitely didn’t expect this. Generally speaking, the food didn’t taste fresh. I won’t be going back again.

Okay, so I’m changing my previous review from before. Here’s why: I LOVE all their sushi, especially their special rolls. I’m also surprised that they lowered their prices for many sushi, so I’m going to go there more often. The ONLY thing that made me take off a star is that they are not very good with their ramen. I’ve certainly had better ramen in other places, so I think it’s a bit of a waste for them to serve a dish that they’re not very good at. The noodles for the ramen weren’t that great either; I ended up throwing away half of them because it just wasn’t good enough. The meat portion is really poor as well. I guess that’s what I get for the price I’m paying? If you ask me, this place should focus more on their sushi than noodles!

Have to downgrade stars from my previous review because of the change in management. This WAS one of my favorite restaurants in marpole. I thought I would give them a try by ordering my usual staple(bento box). I figured it would change but I was really disappointed by how much. Even the typical cali rolls changed in flavor. The previous chefs and waitress were amazing people and very friendly. I was very saddened by their retirement. I haven’t been back to Red Tuna since.

I USED to eat here… until the place was sold and then everything changed. It was a nice cozy place to eat with friendly service and great food! No issues. I saw that there was new management recently and was thinking of paying them a visit… BUT one of my staff beat me to it and received a nice helping of SEVEREFOODPOISONING. Won’t be going there anytime soon! Sad because it used to be good :(

SPICYSASHIMIROLLIS A MUSTTRY!!! First time trying this place, even though I live around the area. I guess I had always thought it was like any other sushi stores, but goodness, the sashimi roll is to die for. Everything is so fresh. The sashimi melted in my mouth, it was just amazing. I’ll definitely come back again to try the other specialty rolls it has. Can’t wait!!!

Now that I have been coming here more often, I think this place really deserves the extra star. The service is always excellent, sweet and friendly. The food, always fresh and awesome. There is consistency with the quality and service, which I appreciate. The spicy tuna roll is pretty awesome. Tuna gomae is delightful with big chunks of perfect tuna. And I didn’t find the gomae too strong this time. It was really very good. I also had some gyoza. These were delicious. A little crispy on the outside, and nice, warm and flavourful on the inside. As always, the bi bim bap is a great lunch.

We came here and started off with the 13 piece sashimi plate. The tuna was incredible, this tuna was served to us at peak flavor, texture, smell, and beauty. Once you put this piece of tuna into your mouth you see and hear Jesus light and the heavenly choir singing in the background. Once this moment passes a smile and grin flashes across your face and you kind of just giggle to yourself and your partner acknowledging that you’ve just tasted something special. The salmon, wild salmon, and snapper were also delicious and generously portioned. For us we fell in love with the tuna more than anything, but you would be a very satisfied patron if you sat down had some sushi and ordered at least a 7 piece tuna sashimi plate.

To be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect when my friend Vincent N. told me that Red Tuna is a Japanese restaurant run by Korean people. I thought that was foodie-speak for«the food here will suck». I was pleasantly surprised to find out this was not the case at all. Red Tuna is tucked away along several blocks of skinny restaruants. Chances are you’ve driven by here 50 times without noticing it. Parking is available outside rush hour on Granville. There are also side streets. The interior is rather plain, with a mini sushi bar and counter in the middle. There are a total of 3 people working here(1 waitress, 1 cook, 1 sushi bar chef). There are the typical laminated photos of their dishes and combos on the walls. In terms of tables, there were a few that seated 2 – 4. Otherwise you’re sitting at the sushi bar. BC roll — quite tasty. Skins were really fresh and crispy. Not too much rice. Alaska roll — Fresh salmon and avocado, but these rolls were TINY. They’re the size of California rolls elsewhere. I was expecting something larger, like BC or dynamite. Spicy tuna roll — rolls were covered in. ketchup? Tuna was fresh. Bibimbap — they used a plastic bento-type bowl instead of stone. As a result, the rice wasn’t crispy. There was some minced beef in the dish but the amount was rather small. I thought I was eating a vegetarian bowl. The quality of the food is very decent for sure, but the little things mentioned above prevent me from giving the place 4 stars. This place is tiny. You’d have trouble fitting 15 people in here.

I popped in today for a quick lunch during my work break with my boyfriend. We both had the sashimi bento box which was an extremely good value for the quantity, in my opinion(it was $ 12.95 and came with four pieces of sashimi, a salad, chicken or beef teriyaki, a California roll, and miso soup). The waitress was extremely accommodating when my boyfriend and I requested to make changes to the bento box, such as making all pieces of sashimi into salmon instead of having two salmon and two tuna. My boyfriend asked to change his California roll into a negitoro roll and I changed mine to a chopped scallop roll, granted I had to pay the difference. The chicken teriyaki wasn’t the most tender I’ve had and I didn’t even finish it. The chopped scallop roll looked a little bit on the small side but was the tastiest thing in the box. I wasn’t a big fan of the salad dressing on the salad, so I left that almost untouched. The salmon sashimi pieces were really big and thick, and even though the menu said four pieces of sashimi, my boyfriend and I both got five with a hidden one at the bottom — a very nice gesture(on purpose, I’d imagine) although the pieces were a bit tough to chew through. At the end, both the waitress and the sushi chef behind the bar genuinely thanked us and said goodbye which I appreciated. Pros: affordable, quick service, friendly staff, and good selection Cons: not the best quality, small space, and the waitress forgot to bring my boyfriend his water Verdict: I’d only come again if I was in a rush, tight on cash, or in the area and craving sushi.

This place is great for authentic sushi. It’s literally a hole in the wall(maybe about 7 – 8 stools, 2 small tables) but the service and the food quality is fantastic. Try the Caterpillar Roll, the presentation and the quality is great. The sashimi pieces are of large portion and always fresh. They offer ramen as well, although not as good as specialized ramen places, the quality isn’t bad. A small TV in there allows you to catch up on the Canucks. Highly recommended! :)

Had to go to Marpole that day and browsing my moleskin notepad I noticed there was no recommendation around. So, as usual, I resorted to the exquisite tastes of the Unilocalers. And they were right in the money! Even though not Japanese owned, its dishes and service are on even grounds to some very good similar Japanese in town! Inexpensive, clean, and very good selection of rolls! How could I say ‘no’ to a dish of Spicy Tuna Rolls for 2.50??? Indeed, one of the best STRs I had here in Vancouver. I would also recommend trying the Korean Bibimbap combo. Aside serving a large bowl of deliciousness, it also includes a miso soup. If you have not tried Korean, it is a popular dish to try. Careful, it is spicy(garlic’ish) and maybe not that many people have that kind of tastes. But, for 6.50, it is worth the try and the experience. And, the service is very friendly and accommodating! They really made my day! Whenever I go to Marpole, I know where to go. Too bad I cannot put a 4.5 rating.

This place is a GEM. Their spicy tuna roll is in my opinion one of the best I have ever had. I like both the spicy sauces they use and the tuna is very fresh. The sushi is very well priced, quite a steal. The staff are super nice and their green tea has a hint of jasmine, very yummy. The ramen is good too, especially if you’re hungry for a large portion.

This is the best ‘not actually Japanese owners’ sushi place that I’ve been to, Vancouver and otherwise. I like their many creative rolls, especially the ones with thin avocado and eel on the top. I like taking visitors from Japan here to show them the West Coast creativity! note: I’ve only tried the Sushi here. I’m kind of scared to try Ramen at non-specialized places.

I’m not going to make any extravagant claims like«this is the best sushi joint in town» because that’s a really subjective call that I’m not very good at making. I can say with a fairly high degree of certainty that the chef at Red Tuna makes the best sushi in Marpole. I can’t say this absolutely because I haven’t tried all the sushi joints here yet(there are seriously a half dozen). But when I need some rice and fish and I cower at the thought of what awaits me someplace new, I head here. It’s even more of a hole in the wall than Sushi King(across the street) or Hibachi(one block south), so I always end up sitting at the bar watching the chef at work. I’m always greeted by a delicious scent as I walk in the door and I always walk out with a satisfied feeling in my gut. Where Sushi King gives you quantity, Red Tuna gives you quality. Even without trying their eponymous dish I can say with confidence that this place should be on any sushi lover’s list.

The man behind the sushi bar is the best sushi chef in the world. You just tell him your favorite sushi ingredients and he will come up with the best sushi you have ever eaten in your life. I asked for purple rice with scallop and it is the best scallop roll i have eaten EVER! The place is really really small so go in small groups(2 to 4 ppl). SOGOOD! It’s a must try place :)
