The Bone & Bowl is a Vancouver Pet store that offers a range of pet products including healthy pet food from local Canadian brands (and we deliver it to your door!), comfy and stylish pet beds and dog clothing as well as a range of unique products that you will struggle to find elsewhere.

Of course we also sell home made dog cookies and treats, leashes, collars and dog grooming products.

History

Established in 2012.

The Bone & Bowl came about through many dogpark discussions, where we found there was a need for a pet store in the up-​and-​coming neighbourhood of The Village on False Creek (formerly the Athletes Village for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games).

But it couldn’t be just ANY store. It needed to be a hub for the community, a place where both people and pets would always feel welcome and at home, and where they could find everything they need for their pets (and some things that they just have to have!). So in December 2012, that’s what we built — from the living room area complete with leather couch, big screen TV and fireplace, through to the kitchen with lots of great baked goods for our furry friends — it’s another home in The Village.

We’ve added in our family and friends as greeters (Archie & Hank), associates and trainers to make sure that every time someone walks in the door, they know they are welcome.

I really wanted to like this store: it’s very pleasant to walk into and they carry a lot of great products, plus they offer a free delivery service of dog food which is really handy.
However, after placing and paying for an ($ 80) order for delivery, I’m still waiting for the delivery — 3 weeks later. I went to the store 3 days after placing the order to inquire about it and they said they’d have someone call me, which did happen. When I called back to make arrangements for delivery, I got voicemail. Each time I call the store I only reach a voicemail service.
UPDATE:
I managed to reach a store employee when I called today, and she was the same one I’d purchased the order from, and also the same one I’d spoken to when I returned to the store to inquire about the purchase. She was genuinely surprised that my order hadn’t been delivered yet, and not only followed up with arrangements right away, but made the delivery herself this evening.
So… I’m grateful for the immediate action taken, but still surprised that such a lengthy delay happened at all. I’ll be back at my neighborhood Tisol on Main Street the next time I need more food — same prices, excellent service, and always a great experience.

I really appreciate your response to my review. However, I have to correct you on your point: no follow up arrangements were made for a delivery when I spoke to the gentleman who called me, as I did not provide any available timing during our conversation. Rather, the gentleman advised me to call him back as at that moment I was not able to provide a time frame. As I explained, my numerous attempts to call back were only received by voicemail, and my visit to the store also didn’t resolve the issue.

They have mountain dog food on breeder block here sold at the warehouse price! The staff have always been friendly to us. Other things in the store is quite pricy, but it’s all so pretty!

After a not-​so pleasant visit back in March, Betsy, the owner of Dog and Bowl contacted me to discuss my experience. She was professional, attentive, and showed she truly valued my business. We sent a few messages back and forth, and the owner graciously offered me a gift card to visit the store again, with what she believes would be a much better experience.
Upon returning, I believe I was helped by the same girl who helped me last time. She was nice, and kinda nervous — not sure if she had recognized me, but she made small talk and helped me choose a few items for my pet. When I was playing with my phone, and looking at one of the business cards advising of check-​in perks, she didn’t say a word. After my transaction, I checked-​in on Foursquare, and the screen prompted a 10% discount with check-​in. I was a little taken aback that the girl didn’t mention anything before the end of the transaction, since I only put my phone away to give her my full attention, and not be rude.
Would have been nice to get that 10% off, but now we know for next time. At least I got a free cookie with check-​in. I know it’s not the employee’s duty to broadcast discounts, but if I’m already looking at literature advising of it, and I have a phone in hand, a heads-​up would have really upped the experience.
So all in all, love the merchandise, owner is wonderful, and really no further expectations with this specific employee.

It’s pretty tough not to be wowed when you walk through the door of the Bone & Bowl. I can’t tell you how great it is to have a top notch pet shop in the village. Every time we walk by, the dogs steer us in the direction of cookies and the love from the great staff.
I also love that they don’t just have stuff for the little pooches. We’ve found some great stuff for our big buggers.
RE: food… we were after a certain brand of food they didn’t have at the time. A day later, not only did they have it in the store, THEY DELIVERED IT TO OUR DOOR!!!
Great people. Excellent selection of food and merchandise. Bone & Bowl is an amazing addition to our neighbourhood.

I ‘d like to update my review of Bone & Bowl… it pained me to write about my first experience at this shop because I want to see small, locally-​owned businesses thrive against the grim backdrop of big chain stores.
The owner of the store contacted me after she read my review and it was apparent that she had read it thoroughly and accepted my feedback. She then explained that on that particular day, her employee was very ill and in fact, they had to close early to allow the employee to go home. So, with an open mind, I visited again.
This time, we were greeted upon entering the store and once again, we had our furball in tow. My friend was still interested in the dog coats near the front door. We were encouraged to try the coats on the dog for size and when the right one was found, the shopkeeper kindly cut off the tag so that the dog could wear the coat out of the store.
As I said previously, the products are of very high quality and there’s a ton of cute stuff… a good selection of beds and many many leashes and collars. We didn’t explore the food side of the shop very much on either visit so I can’t comment.
It’s a good stop for dog owners on their way to the nearby off-​leash park or on their way around the seawall. It’s also a great place to find gifts for any dog lover that you may know. The Olympic village is slowly but surely developing some character as more residents and businesses move in. I’m looking forward to seeing this shop become a hub of activity for dogs and their people alike.

Look around you before you enter the store. See those high rises? Ok good. Now ask yourself, «can you afford one of those high rises?»
If the answer is «yes» then proceed to enter and buy lots of COOL stuff. The treats, toys, and clothing for your pet are pretty cute — not gonna lie. BUT.
If the answer was «no» then you should probably turn around since $ 40 for a dog sweater is pretty demoralizing.
All in all, there was plenty of stuff I wanted to buy my dogs, but I was looking at spending $ 80+ bucks and decided I should probably save my money instead.

The Bone & Bowl just popped up in Olympic Village and I have to say I’m a fan.
I’ve had really positive experiences with the customer service here and am happy with the quality of product as well. We only feed our dogs organic treats, so I was extremely happy to find such a great selection close to home. The store is still just getting started and figuring out inventory so I’ve noticed they’ve been changing up their treat selection — their workers are quick to suggest ones to try based on past experiences which really helps.
I’m looking for a specific type of bed (double decker) and they happily took my info to research some brands for me — I like that!
I also like that my pups are welcome and always seem to come home with a special treat.
PS — Adorable, gigantic shop pup is such a cutie!
