We went during the Dine Out season. The appetizer was fine. Their Elk burger was special but we didn’t like the salmonrisotto. Their mango cheesecake was good between other desserts.

Very good bistro. I went there tonight, sunday night. We had the dine-out menu, with a kale salad with beets and goat cheese, a elk burger, and mango cheesecake. The kale salad wasn’t great, but the Elk burger was absolutely delicious and the mango cheesecake too. I found the selection original and very cheap: $ 20 for the three course meal. There was also a zucchini salad or a salmon with puff pastery. The service is good, nothing to say. A band was playing, they are now doing Sunday Jazz apparently. That’s a good place to check out.

Me and the mister were keen to try this place after the Central closed. The old place had it’s charms but the service wasn’t one of them. Verve has a great beer selection and really tasty food(try the apply sampler). the kitchen seems to be very well run. Lots of great deals to take advantage of while they are still new to the hood. The new owner is friendly and smart, and the staff is MUCH more welcoming. The best part so far has been hanging at the bar during happy hour and meeting our neighbours. Exactly what we hoped for with Central but never quite managed. They are trying out different kinds of entertainment from comedy to jazz and karaōke. Hoping for singer songwriter music nights to bring a little original music to the neighbourhood. Looking forward to trying the brunch this weekend, will report back soon.

I miss Central Bistro. Our waitress was great and tried to make up for the kitchen’s poor performance. We both ordered the«Hangover Burger»(elk patty): cold bun, salty over-seasoned patty, bland tomato, home fries that tasted like coconut. A pox upon Vancouver’s brunch scene. Spend your money and precious stomach space elsewhere unless you’re in the mood for regret.

For the prices there($ 105 for two, with a bottle of wine) I’d expect more. Paper napkins, pretty plain décor, pretty good service, and pretty lousy food. My only negative comment on the service would be the fact that we ordered a bottle of wine and didn’t get a chance to taste before the server filled up both glasses. But the food could have been vastly improved, as could the décor. Frankly, if I’m going to spend $ 105 for a meal, I’m going to take my money to any number of great places in the west end where the décor, the service and the food are all stellar. Probably my last visit to Verve, which is a shame — I really liked Central!

Awesome hangout! Good food! Great Service! Great music! Not sure what Edd E. is flaming about, but then he hasnt said anything really useful in ANY of his previous posts nor has he even posted anything about the late great Central. Oh well, take it for whats its worth. Im heading back with my friends. :)
