Sebastian & Company Fine Organic Meats

Sebastien delivers a great selection of fine meats. Very friendly service and classic atmosphere that is both west Vancouver and european. The sausages and cured meats are fantastic. All of the products are high quality and worth trying. Highly recommended.

This is a 3.65 star review. I really would love to give this organic butcher shop a 4 star if not higher but I just couldn’t. Let me tell you all about the good first. The knowledgeable staff is extremely friendly and so is Sebastian, the owner. Whenever I have questions, they are always able to give me solid answers. If they didn’t have an answer they’d find out and get back to me. This boutique style shop sells more than just organic meats. You can find dry pasta, pasta sauce, eggs, duck fat, cheese, preserves, even candies and chocolates here.
After shopping there a few time and not being able to buy what I wanted (fresh ground pork, chicken, turkey, pork liver etc) I learned to call in and place my orders in advance. One time I was looking for some organic pork liver. They said organic pork liver isn’t a common enough item to be on stock all the time so they said they’ll call me when one becomes available. I was surprised that I DID hear back from them 2 – 3 weeks after my initial call. With a busy shop like Sebastian’s, I honestly don’t expect them to return call. I expect me to call them back once in a while to «follow up». For this, they’ve exceeded my expectations.
When I come here I always buy their organic gourmet hand-​made sausages. They are made fresh twice a week. Every week the selection is different. They are truly delicious. The breakfast sausages are great complements to a lazy homey brunch. The other ones are great for pasta dishes or appetizers.
Their Polderside chicken is one of our family’s favorites for special occasions. I roast the bird in 250 — 275 (no more than 275 degrees F) and roast it for 3 hours. The bird came out JUICY (and no I didn’t need to put any aluminum foil on top).
I tried their vacuum sealed marinated half chicken with Montréal spice rub and that was nice too.
You may be wondering why I am giving this place a 3.65 star when I have so many good things to say about this place? I couldn’t buy the stale meats (such as pork chop, beef tenderloin, steaks etc) sitting on the display. The displayed meats just don’t look fresh. In fact, they look dull and lifeless. I can’t justify paying premium price on organic meats that’s not fresh from their ready-​cut meat section.
Other than that service is undoubtedly a 5 star. If you are big on eating healthy, do give this place a try.
