Second visit — this time during dinner rush(around 7pm). Spagetti and Meatballs for Pasta Tuesdays. Total: $ 12.60. Meal arrived looking like someone dumped watery orangey looking liquid on the pasta and under the meatballs(not red and rich tomatoe sauce). The three meatballs had a strange taste and it was only when I ate the third one I noticed the entire bottom was burnt and black hence the weird taste. Lots of fresh italian parsely with fresh tasting ricotta and noodles were excellent. However I felt like it was old — meatballs were from days ago as they were mushy. Served rapidly though! I asked for freshly grated parmesan and black pepper which were done, however I don’t recommend pepper as this dish is spicy warm! The service was like last time buzzing — to the point of annoyance. Walking while yelling out at other tables as they whiz by you and don’t come back to see how you are or if you want something… service is so rapid that I felt like I was trying to be cleared out and it was on high spin. Server was kind and trying really hard but when he whizzed by saying«enjoyyyyy» and not stop to face you and genuinely tell you without yelling it ATYOU it tainted the experience. The entry smells like pee — need 1:10 ratio of bleach to water to clean floors. Host was excellent. Water had minute things floating on it. Utensils were dropped loudly on the table and rapidly(ie. like Speedy Gonzales) I was told take your time as the guy was rushing off and I yelled back i’m readyyyyy to order! LOL Meal was done and immediately cleared. Server was told of my experience and management was brought over with offer of better next time and business card. Next time hope its better… Portions and plating good.

Where to start … the food tasted great, so that’s a good thing. The Calamari was really some of the best I have had in a long time, my wife’s Egg Plant Parm went down well. The service however, really was bad! We were hardly acknowledged for the first 30 minutes or so, my wife and I even asked each other if we had done something to offend our waiter. When our meals hadn’t come at close on an hour, their attitude changed for the better, but when the food did come, my Spaghetti had lumps stuck to each other, and was not even al dente. Honestly, the only reason it gets 3 stars was because of the quality of some of the food.

Always great service and great food! Their items are quite pricey but they have daily deals with happy hour from 2:30 — 5:30 everyday. Tuesday’s are my favourite with all their pastas being $ 12. It’s so ridiculously affordable it doesn’t even feel like dining high end. On Sunday’s they have $ 10 pizza which is also exceptional. Wednesdays are 50% off all wine bottles. Even though their menu is expensive, you can easily dine there affordably. All the servers seem quite experienced, even the food servers are highly professional. Parking at park royal is free, you can park directly in front of the restaurant if there’s space, however that area is often quite packed but the parking lot has an elevator that leads to directly facing Trattoria. Sometimes the restaurants gets quite packed during summer nights but it’s usually pretty tame. They take reservations but it’s not necessary unless you’re bringing a large party.

Had a nice experience at Trattoria today. I haven’t been here for awhile and their popularity must have decreased because when they first opened they were packed full but today was only mild. Here is what we ordered: Spaghetti Bolognese($ 16.95): had really nice flavour and the meat sauce was nice, the meat itself should’ve been more smashed up because I found pieces of meat that could be considered miniature meatballs. Crab and Shrimp Conchiglioni($ 21.95): really loved the crab and shrimp stuffing, really herby and flavourful. The Conchiglioni itself was too al dente, there was still a crunch to it. Forno Roasted Vegetables($ 7.95): nice variety and they were cooked well, could’ve added some more flavour, all of the vegetables tasted bland. — Service was nice in helping us choose our dishes since I never really go to Italian restaurants and I am not familiar with pasta. Overall experience was nice, but food could be improved slightly.

If it weren’t for the abhorrent state of the washroom last night, I’d be giving it a higher rating; it was worse than a gas station and so disgusting, I was tempted to leave before our seats had time to warm up. Speaking about seats… could the chairs BE any more uncomfortable? They certainly don’t say, «Please, sit, enjoy, stay awhile». Service is o.k. Food is good. But I think I’ll go where I’m not turned off before I even get started on the evening.

Awesome food !!! You should come here. the server we got, Christian, is also great!!! our son has allergy with nuts and even before we asked, he asked if any of us have allergy restriction. that is what we call caring for customers. furthermore, service is great! one note though about the cutlery and glass … it is covered with finger smudges. might need considering a quick wipe before using.

Incredible thin crust pizza, the pasta is sumptuous and the dessert: to die for! Had excellent service and will be sure to dine here again and again. Looking forward to the upstairs patio opening!

Went here for my partner’s birthday and invited a few of our family members. Our Server was excellent(wish I could remember her name. Sorry!) with our kids and helpful with food choices. She was also training another individual and as you can imagine, that can be difficult to perform while continuously having to stop and teach. Just wish the restaurant was larger! But overall, delicious food, quick service, and friendly staff!

My husband and I decided to eat here as we wanted to be able to sit, relax and enjoy our food. It was packed on a early Friday afternoon. The décor was modern with tons of visible bottles of wine. The hostess was young but very friendly and polite. It took a while for our waitress to come by when she took our drink order but brought it to us promptly. Then a male server came to take our food order, I had the braised beef short ribs with flat pasta for $ 19.95 and my husband had the smoked salmon with pasta for $ 18.95. The server asked if we wanted any appetizers but we said no. The food arrived after a short time but brought to us by another server. He asked if we wanted Parmesan cheese and black pepper so then the second server came by with that. Our meal did not come with any bread and the portion was small and just tasted okay. Less than three hours later, we were hungry. The two washrooms are also the same ones the staff uses. A customer told one staff member there was a problem with one of them but he did not address it by either having someone look into it or putting an out of order sign. I would not return to this restaurant again and noticed that there may be other locations nearby but I would not go there either.

Took a small child here on a friday night, and they were in the midst of dine-out vancouver. So very busy. They had no problem seating us, with crayons and a high chair. Food was excellent, if a little rich. Service was quick and attentive. The kitchen was a little backed up but really did not slow ther overall service. I would definitely return, and hope to try the wine selection. Beer choices were sub par, with only overpriced bottles on offer.

Was given a large gift certificate for the glow ball group restaurants and had been avoiding using it, as I have not had many good experiences at their restaurants. as previous reviews have shown. But I wanted to give it a fresh go and thought I would try out Italian kitchen with my partner, seeing there was one in West Vancouver and we were close by house sitting. I didn’t realize for about 10 minutes of driving that in fact it sits on top of its sister restaurant, Trattoria in Park Royal. After a confusing talk to a hostess she sent us up in the quite dirty elevator to the second floor where it quickly set in that this restaurant was partially open air… in the winter. They had set up a number of hot lamps, blankets and windscreens, but it was –4 and I could see my breath as I breathed a big confused sigh. As i wished warmth for the one table huddled up there, we quickly asked to be seated down in Trattoria but order from the menu upstairs at Italian kitchen, which they agreed to, and we were seated downstairs but then forgotten about for about 30 minutes. Once we flagged down the server, we had much time to think and figured we would do the appy pasta sharing plate and the main sharing plate to get a decent idea what the food was like overall. However, once the waited pointed out the fine print under the share plate description on the menu we were horrified to find out that the«sharing plates» were priced per person… so instead of a 40 $ sharing plate which seemed reasonable as you are getting just a few bites of a few things it would be 80 $… So an appy sharing plate and a main share plate would be 160.00. Nope. No way. Mien lieben. So we gave up on that menu and ordered the«on special» share plates from Trattoria. One appy plate, one main plate, one dessert plate, 40 $ per person for all three. Hmm. While we awaited our appetizer plate, we noticed all the boxes of cheap store bought pasta and sauces so proudly displayed by the open kitchen… I noticed on the menu that most of these«gourmet» pasta dishes they touted were between 26 – 39 $…but not made from fresh homemade pasta? Oh the night was starting to slide further down hill. Wine will be needed. Our appetizer platter arrived, which contained some soggy calamari soaking into a tasteless marinara sauce with a few olives. There was also a bed of arugula, a large bunch of quartered raw tomatoes, with a slosh of olive oil, a few pieces of supermarket packaged prosciutto, a small spoonful of pesto, a tablespoon of mashed burrata cheese, a few slices of oil packed sundried tomatoes and a few pieces of baguette toast. Meh. Everything needed salt, the raw tomatoes were hard and bitter and out of season, the arugula was turning yellow… we ate a few bites and just kept drinking the wine. Then the main share platter arrived. It was three kinds of pasta, two lambchops, and some roasted brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were alright, as is anything you char and add lemon and cheese to, but everything else was awful. The«lamb chops» were just shredded and each had about a small teaspoon of meat on them(check out the pics), the spaghetti with truffle cream sauce was just a bit of oily spaghetti with a drizzle of truffle oil, and a tablespoon of ricotta and parsley on top, the meat balls, while soft, needed seasoning… just tasted like beef liver baby food… blech. The lobster tortellini was actually canned crab and had a tinned seafood taste. The sauce was tasteless marinara with cream and a few peas. No seasoning. We were so pissed we wanted to get pissed. More wine please. Our dessert platter came, and surprise surprise more items brought in from other stores. They had macaroons from fauberg next door, on a bed of packaged bitter raspberry coulis and what tasted like a pre-frozen tasteless tiramisu made from instant coffee and mostly spray whip cream. The zeppoli’s were like doughier hot versions of Tim Horton’s timbits. Boo. I wanted to toss my zeppoli into the open air kitchen where all the staff seemed to be partying loudly and let it land like a soggy bomb at their feet. Not surprising the experience was much like my other experiences at other glowball locations. Menus that sound enticing, décor that looks inviting, but the reality is tasteless food made by incompetent cooking fools, bad service that borders on highschool drama, and a general grimyness, with food particles and crumbs everywhere. Not sure how this group keeps going strong in Van. Avoid at all costs. Use all gift certs for booze.

It’s been a few years since my last random visit to the Italian Kitchen downtown, so today we decided to stop in here at this Park Royal Trattoria(same owners as Italian Kitchen) for brunch. I should’ve read the other Unilocal reviews warning of bad service and unimpressive food. They were right. The restaurant itself is gorgeously decorated. But that’s about as good as it gets. Service was mostly absent. Food came after a long wait, though the restaurant was not busy. In my dish, the fennel sausage pieces were all lukewarm, while the hash and eggs in the same bowl were steaming hot. I’m not sure how that could even happen. The spaghetti & meatballs were decent in taste, but nothing to rave about. At the end, we were also mis-charged on the bill. $ 18.95 for the spaghetti & meatballs, when the menu clearly stated $ 17.95. It’s only a dollar off, but it’s still kinda scammy to just raise prices & not update the printed menus that customers are ordering from. In summary, considering the service, food quality, and overall experience — I won’t be returning to this Trattoria again.

Great service, I don’t know why some reviews said the portions were not big, but we didn’t think they were necessarily small. I had to pack mine to go. Decent wine selection and you MUST try their Tiramisu.

Seriously??! Is this place a joke? Ugh. I am an Italian food lover and have heard mixed reviews about Trattoria. I decided to check it out myself and I wish I hadn’t. First of all, service in a restaurant is pretty necessary for smooth production, and service at Trattoria is more than lacking. Our waitress came and said hi– in passing as she was in the middle of doing something else– and said she’d be back in «just a minute». Didn’t even offer us drinks. «Just a minute» quickly turned into 5, then 10, when finally the woman who I am assuming is the manager or something came up to us and told us the specials of the day, got us drinks, and personally laid napkins on our laps, which no one around us got. It was a nice gesture but she was quite cold and looked like she couldn’t care less and was only doing this so we wouldn’t get up and leave. Our watered down over priced drinks came promptly after that, and we never saw her again. That would be fine, except we also didn’t see our waitress again. There were bussers walking around resetting tables and refilling water but no one asked us if we were ready to order or if we needed anything. My water was refilled 6 times(during all of those refills, the girl never said you’re welcome or even acknowledged my thank you’s) while I was waiting. Finally I asked a waiter from a different section if we could order and he graciously let us. We got the calamari and each our own pasta dish. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long for the calamari, but the girl who brought it out simply set it down and walked away without saying anything. At this point our waitress walked by!(Wow! She still works here?! Where has she been?!) and asked how our food was, I said great(because it was fantastic calamari) but she was already turned and walking away. Anyway, we finished the calamari and despite the poor service, we were looking forward to our pasta dishes being just as good as the calamari. We waited a bit longer than I think we should have for the pasta, and when it arrived it looked great, other than the fact that it clearly had been sitting for a bit since the sauce has congealed and it was no longer hot. I had the carbonara, which was great, although the taste wasn’t consistent and there was only a few chunks of pancetta. My other half had the gnocchi with meat sauce and it was decent. Wasn’t the best gnocchi, quite doughy, but the sauce was good and it wasn’t unbearable. Our dishes for cleared fast bit without comment from a busser, and once again we were left waiting. Waiting. Waiting. All we wanted was the bill and I finally got the closest bussers attention and asked him for the bill which he immediately went to get, and that I was appreciative of. Right as he was handing it to us our waitress showed up! Woo! She saw that he had already gotten us the bill and just left, didn’t say goodbye or thank you. Hope she enjoyed her tip that came out of our hardworking pockets, since she clearly doesn’t work hard at her job. The one thing I did admire at trattoria was that an area of the kitchen was open and you were able to watch. It was very clean and uniform and whenever the chef had a command, the kitchen staff would respond with a prompt«Yes chef». Still, that doesn’t make up for the fact that the service sucks and the employees lack basic customer service skills necessary for a place with that make reputation. Good try Glowbal, this one failed.

I wanted to give Trattoria 5 stars, however, they took Burrata & Melon off the menu. and while being an overall very good restaurant, they still have a few flaws. First off, the issue of Burrata & Melon. In my opinion, that was one of the best and finest, and yet also incredibly simple italian dishes I have ever tasted. It once held a place on the Mozzarella Bar at the price of $ 9.95 but has as of around a year ago, vanished completely from the restaurant. Even requests for the dish were flatly denied. The rest of the Mozzarella Bar’s Burrata dishes pale in comparison to Burrata and Melon. Each bite would burst with the combined flavours of juicy mouthwatering watermelon and the fresh light creaminess of burrata on an expertly slightly toasted herb crostini. It was an earth shattering, orgasmic experience. I am deeply saddened by the loss of Burrata and Melon from Trattoria. In an effort to re-experience this lost moment, my boyfriend and myself have ordered other dishes from the Mozzarella Bar, the Burrata & Prosciutto $ 16.95, and Burrata & Quince $ 9.95 but were utterly disappointed. The Burrata & Prosciutto is a deconstructed plate of prosciutto, pesto, roasted tomatoes, and forno toast. Not quite worth the $ 17, with the rather petite amount of burrata for that price. Would have been better if served with herb crostini instead of ‘forgo toast’ which did not seem to be toasted at all. Burrata & Quince(lardo, basil, herb crostini) was what we ordered the next time we went, hoping that it would have fared better than the Burrata & Prosciutto, but again, it fell short of our expectations. It was perhaps a matter of personal tastes, as both my partner and I were not fans of lardo, barely choking it down. Despite these mediocre reviews of Trattoria’s Mozzarella Bar, I still give it 4 stars because the rest of their menu is still able to hold his own. My personal favourite, and something I order almost everytime is the Spaghetti Bolognese $ 16.95. A classic, a generous meat to sauce ratio on top of a bed of perfectly cooked al dente spaghetti, this dish has never failed me yet. Another favourite pasta dish is the Linguine Carbonara 17.95, also one of the most fantastic carbonara’s I have ever had. The pizza is also very well done, and my partner almost always orders the Prosciutto 16.95, which features arugula, prosciutto, and our favourite — burrata. Finally, dessert. I have only ever ordered the tiramisu, but it is fantastic. Rich and creamy, and also layers of moist sponge cake, with a healthy dusting of cocoa powder on the top. The tiramisu presentation however seems to be very inconsistent. One time, I had two tiramisus ordered to go, as I was very full from eating only half a spaghetti bolognese and had it to take home, both tiramisus were packed beautifully in the boxes, with chocolate sticks as an added bonus. Yet the most recent time I had gone, the tiramisu was disappointingly presented by itself, without any attempt at presentation(compared to other photos on this Unilocal review page) although it still tasted great. Still, I was disappointed, and I had brought my parents. Service is generally pretty good, although at its busiest, servers can seem overwhelmed and may forget to refill drinks. I prefer going when it is less busy, but I still haven’t figured out when that is yet. Service can range from excellent to average. Prices for pasta, pizza and dessert are affordable and fitting, however drinks are a little pricier, as is the Mozzarella Bar. Dishes to order: Spaghetti Bolognese, Linguine Carbonara, Prosciutto Pizza, Tiramisu. Dishes Trattoria should bring back: Buratta & Melon

I’m so glad Glowbal Group opened Trattoria Italian Kitchen in Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Vancouver! Their slogan«every neighborhood needs a Trattoria», is kind of true. We all can use some delicious pasta with a gorgeous patio. It is no surprise that owner Emad Yacoub would expand his restaurant empire to the new shopping destination of Vancouver. The Glowbal Collection includes: Italian Kitchen, Coast, Black and Blue, Society, The Fish Shack, and another Trattoria on Kitsilano West Fourth and Burnaby. Park Royal has seen some major face lift and is now my favorite place for shopping. I love the open concept of outdoor malls with big spacious stores. Park Royal has all my favorite stores: J Crew, Anthropolgie, Aritzia, Sephora, LOFT, Kate Spade New York, Zara, Urban Outfitters… They even have YYoga. The patio space on the second floor is awesome. It really reminds me of Toronto. Beef Carpaccio 13.95: to start we ordered antipasti of a herb crusted beef, grainy mustard aioli, arugula, grana padano, forno bread, pickled onions. Seafood Salad 21.95: It is very important to eat your vegetables. So we ordered a delicious bowl of salad packed full of hand-peeled shrimp, salmon, seared albacore tuna, green beans, quinoa, watercress, basil, herb vinaigrette. Lamb Pappardelle 17.95: lamb sausage, potatoes, cabbage, peperoncino, olive oil. Great tasting pasta. We came happened to be here on a Tuesday. Tuesday is Pasta Tuesday where they offer a pasta special for $ 11. It’s a great deal if you ask me! Spaghetti & Signature Meatballs 17.95: Sometimes you just want some classic spaghetti and meatballs with spicy tomato basil sauce and herbed ricotta. Very flavorful and wasn’t too salty. Pasta Platter 20.95(priced per person, minimum 2 per order): A selection of truffled spaghetti & signature meatballs, cavatappi pollo, penne pomodoro, and lamb pappardelle. This is a great choice when you want to sample a little of everything. Great for sharing. We came here on a separate occasion than Pasta Tuesday. Trattoria is a great location with impressive service. The restaurant is big and bright and everything is shiny and new. They do not take reservations, so you will need to come early or wait for awhile. Seems like most people in West Vancouver likes to have an early dinner at 5:30pm. I really didn’t experience any of the problems everyone’s been posting about. Lucky for me I guess…

An impressive location with impressive service. It was however, I thought very expensive for what you get. Be aware the portion sizes are rather small, again for the price. They do not take reservations so evening meals can result in a regular wait. I agree with other reviews that the location can be a little noisy due to design which seems not to have taken the open concept to heart. Our service was top notch, attentive and the food arrived quickly as well. I’m willing to give it another try but aside from the décor and service the food did not stand out.

I decided to give the newly renovated Park Royal area a chance by dining at the first Glowbal group’s location outside of Vancouver. Needless to say I was satisfied with the food but not the service. The décor is more casual than their other locations and the checkered patterned napkins gives the place an Italian diner kind of vibe. I particularly liked the high ceiling and the stacked jars of pickles and tomato sauce jars against the wall stacked in a wooden wall shelves. The tables are white marble, giving it the Italian touch, with comfy diner style chairs. Upon arrival we were seated by our friendly server, where we were given the choice of a window seat. She was very attentive when she got to our table but it seemed like the whole place was understaffed as at one point we had received our food but no cutlery to eat it with. I should also mention that this was a Tuesday night where they offer a pasta special for $ 11; which is a great value. I started off with their eggplant Vitaloni which had the right texture but lacked the ‘awe’ factor. The tomato sauce that was decorating this appetizer was quite delightful, just the right amount of sauce and garlic. Our server also offered a complimentary focaccia bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. For my main I had the beef lasagna which came with a tomato and arugula fennel salad which was a nice addition to the otherwise meaty dish. Again my main was delicious but I wasn’t blown away by the taste it left on my taste buds. I’ll probably venture out to this spot again to try out other pasta dishes but only on Tuesday deal night!

Came here twice. The first time was at opening time for Sunday brunch. The tiramisu French toast and crab, lobster, and shrimp omelet were great. Our server was professional and friendly. So why the two stars? Well, the second time here it was a totally opposite experience. We went there again for brunch but this time it was a little later so there was a wait. No big deal as I was expecting it. 20 minutes later we were seated at a window seat right across from the open kitchen. That’s where the problem started. Our waitress that served us was very green as she didn’t know the menu and, worse, seem to have zero experience as a waitress. Example: our table order coffee and tea. The tea came with pots only half filled with water. The coffee came with sugar but no cream and no teaspoons. We asked for lemon for the tea and she forgot. We ask about some items on the menu and she looked somewhat confused. For some restaurants I would have give a bit of slack but for this type of restaurant I would have expected that they would have experienced staff hired. The next problem: the kitchen staff were literally yelling at each other. I mean yelling that you couldn’t hear yourself talk. And this wasn’t nice yelling but stressed out angry ones. OK, it was busy. OK there were a lot of orders to fill. That’s life in a busy restaurant. But if you have an open kitchen then you are on display for everyone to watch. I felt like I was watching a Gordon Ramsey show… only I don’t like watching it live while I’m trying to enjoy a nice meal. Third problem: After about 40 minutes of waiting for our meals to arrive(which the waitress never came back to refill our long empty cups) the waitress comes by and says, «Um, er, we have a bit of a problem. Um, like the kitchen sorta ran out of the food you ordered.» Say what? It took them 40 minutes to figure out they ran out of food? That’s totally unacceptable for a professional kitchen. There should be no excuses for that to happen. The restaurant was only open for less than two hours. There is a kitchen manager and/or chef that should know their inventory well before the restaurant opens. He should be keeping track of these things as the day goes on. Last problem: the brunch items we ordered was just average. Like something you get in any run of the mill restaurant. After receiving poor service, enduring the yelling matches, and waiting almost an hour for our food to finally arrive, this was quite a let down. I was hoping the food would at least make up for some of the bad experience we had. Nope. With all of the negative experiences, I would give one star except for the fact that a floor manager came by and apologized to our and a few other tables and offered to comp the patrons who didn’t get what they ordered. OK, add one star for at least doing the right thing. Lost one potential repeat customer here.

As the empire grows, it takes the business outside of downtown Vancouver and planting it’s seed in new places. I was in a business meeting with my friend, and afterwards she needed a place to unwind(more like un-wine with wine!) and heard there was a new Trattoria in West Vancouver, this wasn’t the easiest to find due to all the construction, or revamping, of the South side of this mall. I followed my friend, car behind car, circling around before we actually located this place, still fresh from the new drywall it stands, and parking is a true bitch to the weird configuration of the parking lot, and we had to park all the way at McDonald’s and walk through the demolition of this crazy construction zone to get to the doorsteps of this place. It’s right next to an Aritzia, in this new glamorous complex with some high end stores, or what’s made to be believed as ‘higher’ end… with the likes of Fauborg a stone’s throw away it’s trying to be the new go to area! After finally getting to the doorway, our hostess asked us where we wanted to sit, it was around 3 pm, tons of seats, and we asked for the upstairs patio(as her friend mentioned this was awesome) but they said it wasn’t opened, so we took the next best thing, the surrounding patio on the curb. You maybe wowed by how the place looks, just know, it’s new, it better be looking good for their sake and name. We were only here for drinks, but we did order a plate of burrata & prosciutto. The drinks came right away, with the platter of food coming not too long later. There comes a mindset of smoke and mirrors to these places, and I just felt very little value to what we had here, and what we had to pay. Sitting on the ground floor, there really is no view, unless you like to look at people drive around looking for parking. The platter was a few pieces of forno toast, with two slices of prosciutto, an ice cream scoop of burrata, and two mini roasted tomato’s over olive oil and basil, for $ 17, and two glasses of wine, each for $ 9 and above, over priced for everything here and nothing really being that special except that you are at a Global Group restaurant. I understand that this place is new, but I’ve eaten at the other restaurants that are part of this group, and just sitting down for a drink felt like someone else’s hands were in my pocket. It took awhile to get the bill, maybe to allow us to milk the time to make it feel more worth the while of the amount that we were paying, for what seemed like nothing. If you are in for this type of stuff, do come here, it’s a safe haven, but it is really nothing too special, just another big conglomerate increasing it’s market share and reach to the public. Maybe next time I’ll get the upstairs patio, but it’s more than just the seating that will change what I deem worth.
