Holy crap, hands down the best fish and chips in White Rock! Even though the food does take a while to come out, it’s totally worth it since they fry the food fresh. A major gripe I usually have with most fish and chips is the terrible batter to fish ratio, but Kahunas’ has got it nailed. A plus would be the fact that they have pretty big portions: the 1 piece is actually 2 pieces, 2 piece is actually 4 pieces, etc. I also love their sauces, the tartar that came with the fish was amazing and the cajun(? not really sure) sauce that came with the sweet potato fries was equally good. Service is really friendly and attentive, the fact that the whole vibe of the place is really relaxed — especially on a sunny day — is also a plus.

This place was great! You won’t be disappointed! Fish and chips — some of the best I’ve had in a really long time. Cooked perfectly. Light and not too oily. Fantastic fries. And then there’s is the tartar sauce. I love a good tartar. I also love dill. They have dill in their tartar and it’s amazing. Also — whatever you order comes with an extra piece of two which was a nice surprise. Good local beers on tap. Need I say more about beer? Service — was excellent. The owner and everyone working were so nice and friendly! Check it out. It’s well worth it even if there is a wait.

The owner is the chef. Their place is small but is friendly and they serve you awesome fish and chips. The quality of their halibut was great and we enjoyed our time there.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had!!! My boyfriend and I have been going there for about 3 years now and they’ve seriously ruined all other fish and chips places for us, haha! In the summer it gets pretty busy and it takes a while to get your order but it’s well worth the wait. If you’re in White Rock I definitely recommend paying them a visit :)

Takeout took around 20 – 25 minutes a little slow but they were busy. Owner was very nice, food was okay, not super great but good for the price only 8.95 for cod fish and chips. Tartar is super good! They don’t give u lemons so ask before u order!

Not normally a fan of fish and chips but this place was very good. They have a Japanese take on the batter but I still enjoyed it. I’m curious about the sushi, maybe another time.

I had fish n chips… the fish was cooked to perfection. Hubby had the cheese burger and also loved it, said he’d ratjer have a burger here than fat burger. The fries/chips fell a bit flat, which was disappointing.

Honestly, I am not always a fan of fish and chips and I rarely eat fried foods. However, there were so many places along Marine Drive on my recent trip to White Rock, I decided I had to give one a try. I did not regret my choice! Kahunas was delicious. The batter was great, the fish wasn’t too greasy, and the fries were just how I like them. I also really liked the tartar sauce, which I often skip. The staff was very friendly and the décor was fun. The only semi-negative is that I ordered the 2 piece thinking it was 2 pieces of fish. Mine came with 4 pieces, which was way more than I could eat myself, so I can only assume I actually ordered 2 portions. So it could have been labeled a bit better. I wasn’t too sad about it, though, because it just meant more yummy food for me to share with my friends. Also, the bathroom is the tiniest bathroom I have ever been in, I am actually curious if all their patrons can actually fit in there.

While visiting my mum’s hometown of White Rock with her and the family, we went into this little place and had a great dinner. I had the salmon burger with caesar, it was great! Very friendly staff, great music(for those of you who enjoy alternative rock) and cute, quirky decorating. Great location, great food, great staff.

We decided to eat inside the restaurant — they have a small dining room inside with some seating outside and a take out counter. That might have been our mistake, because it took awhile to get our meals(or even our beers). But, when we did get them, the fish was perfectly battered and cooked, so yummy! The fries were very decent as well. So, perhaps to save you the wait, order take out and enjoy this on the beach!

I have had Fish & Chips in a lot of places in North America(I travel for work), and I have to say Kahunas is a shining star in my opinion. Fish & Chips are actually not an easy thing to make well. It is so easy to make them too greasy, or to using poor quality ingredients or fish. But Kahunas has got it right. Their in-house made Tartar sauce gets 5 huge stars! If you are a spicey fan, ask for some Saracha and add it to the tartar sauce. Or if you like to live dangerously go whole hog and big risk and ask for the secret hot sauce from the chef… I can hardly wait to get back and try everything else. The restaurant is small(which is nice). Inside there are tables and a few outside on the sidewalk. You can also get it to go and there are picnic tables along the seawall path overlooking the beach. There is a walk-up window as well as table service. The atmosphere is totally«White Rock» meets Hawaii meets Seaside(oregon) so it’s a fun feel. There is lot’s of parking around, but this is White Rock, expect it tough to park, White rock is a popular place on a sunny day so do like the locals and suck it up. The day we were there, they were donating some proceeds to a flood relief program, so in short you got to love a couple that have a passion for their food and restaurant and a social conscience for the people around them. In White Rock, there are lots of places to get lunch or dinner and lots of choices for Fish & Chips, but you’ll see me at Kahunas.

We stopped by this afternoon and had a great time. My fish and chips were cooked to perfection and my wife’s pulled pork was equally perfect. Pair that with the outstanding service and this was a great first time in Canada experience. The view of the ocean was outstanding. They had a great selection of non-fish items as well so don’t be afraid to stop in if your the non-seafood lover in the group.

Took a look at all the fish and chip shops in East Beach and finally settled on Kahunas. Sure glad I did. I ordered 1 piece of halibut and chips and when it came the chips were piping hot and crisp. Instead of one piece of halibut there were two, and it was a very light batter, just the way I like it. Will be back!

Good, they added 1 piece to our order, 2 pieces was 3 and 1 was 2. Wasnt advertsed, but they did it. Kinda cool. but fuuuullll after. They were very good to our kids, who were busy and curious. Mama Kahuna carted them around while others prepared our meals. Good experience for my family and parents. Thanks Kahunas! 3 stars, cause its a fish and chips joint, which is the best a place like this could get.

I’ve use to go there when it was own by Bob and Rosi. With the new owners today, the fish & ships are still just good and juicy as it ever was. The prices still good too. I love the fact that I’m able to put the amount of vinegar I want on my fish and chips. And get as many napkins as I want.

We picked Kahunas out of a row of fish ‘n chips shops and weren’t disappointed. The halibut was fresh and the batter crispy, the food arrived in a good amount of time, and the fries were great. The portions were incredible, and the prices were decent. Also, I kind of loved the décor. It’s a Hawai’i theme(hence their name) done up in scallop shells and wicker, a wacky hula-girl 1950s-ish aesthetic, toned down a bit, sort of my Grandma’s version of Hawai’i but with better music. Which I loved. It’s small inside but the staff are friendly and attentive.

This was a great find! Everyone knows east beach is where you go to find the bestest and cheapest fish and chips. I think Kahuna’s gives you the most bang for your buck. Yum! thought the service was fast and friendly and batter was thin and crisp with plenty of fish inside. Fresh cut chips are the only way to go. They said they are going to be open on weekends and sunny weekdays this winter so when everyone else is closed you know where to go.

While it clearly is homemade and the staff is friendly, they are also slower than molasses! They fried the fish and then let it sit/cool while we waited for the french fries. It was mostly batter, but the grease was fresh. The taste was m’eh, okay. I’d try another place next time, there must be better. Price was very reasonable given the portions were quite large. I had take away, not dine-in. Also, the outdoor seating was minimal, two tables, or maybe three and literally on the sidewalk.

Oh, Kahunas! What a great random find! We were lost on the way to the border, looking for a restroom & Kahuna’s was our lucky stop. We all know that in order to use a bathroom, you have to buy something. Boyfriend had a two-piece fish & chips and a coke. $ 13 bought the best fish in chips I’ve had in months. I like my fish thick, with a small batter to fish ratio. Kahuna’s got it right. They served halibut, which is the best type of fried fish(in my opinion), and it was all made fresh to order. We might drive up to Whiterock just for Kahuna’s. And the bonus: you can take it to-go and eat on the beach across the street :)
