Rhino Bar

I’d only come here for the fisk shots. 100 kr for 10 shots? ja tak! Otherwise, I’d avoid this place at all costs. Crammed, tight and small. There’s barely any elbow room at the bar so you’re lucky if you even get in. As usual it’s always too loud but hey, that’s what it’s like on a typical night in copenhagen right? drunken danes here and there.

Booze time! There’s actually a funny story about Rhino Bar which led me to come here in the first place and then end up coming here again regularly for months after. Back where I go to school in DC, there’s a bar near campus that shares the same name and is notorious for hosting the drunken antics of students from my school. When one of my friends from my school found this place in August, we rallied the troop of us studying in Denmark for a night out. This was stop #1, and I must say, I’m glad they found this place.
The main reason I came here with friends was because of the happy hour. Not many places offer 2-​for-​1 4cl simple mixed drinks starting at 50DKK, but here they do. They also have other mixed drinks for the same 2-​for-​1 scheme as well. Sure, it isn’t anything fancy, but from 9 until 11PM, this place goes from pretty sedate to busy as heck. Nevertheless, if you get here around 10, you should still be able to find a table if you’re quick enough. Beyond the happy hour specials, they have all the regular drink offerings you’d expect for decent-​for-​Copenhagen prices. The clientele also was an interesting mix — from college students to business men and atmosphere is very down to earth and relaxed.
The bar itself is below street level so you might have to look a little closely to first find this place. Inside, there is bar seating, some booths, and a few small tables. The music is a mix from classic rock to pop which originally struck me as odd but quickly grew on me. Noise levels grow as the night goes on as you’d expect. Service at Rhino was also quick, and there is one bartender who is hella hot which I shamelessly sought out whenever I went for another round. What can I say, I’m a sucker for tall, slightly scruffy blonds with a killer smile.
There is no shortage of bars in Copenhagen and especially around the Central and Nørreport station corridor. Rhino, while not a standout (well, apart from aforementioned hot bartender), is a good place to start the night before moving on to other pubs, bars, or clubs. Skål!
