We had a great dinner here during our trip to Paris! I had the duck confit and my boyfriend had chicken with risotto. Both of us loved our dish. The portion was very generous, which was why we sadly couldn’t take desserts afterwards. Very reasonable prices as well. It was around € 55 for both of use including two entrees and two plats. Would highly recommend!

Our duck and steak was tender and tasty. Prices were reasonable. The staff was busy but made us feel welcome. The couple next to us was very understanding when the waiter accidentally knocked a hot pot of melted cheese /potato off our little table and on /in her handbag. This hot mess didn’t cling to anything, but we all had a good laugh trying to contain that warm ball of cheese. Our abysmal French apology to the couple must have worked, because they continued to make small talk with us for the rest of night

Ok first review ever on Unilocal and had to do it because I just had the best meal in a long time(maybe ever). This place is the perfect hidden gem for those who don’t like touristy restaurants. Tiny place off the beaten path but still convenient, maybe 10 tables… Reservation would be a good idea. Excellent French cuisine and great staff. Their English is not the best but they are very helpful and friendly. And 30 – 40 euros per person for appetizer, entrée, dessert and wine is pretty darn reasonable. For the quality of the food and authentic French experience, dare I say it’s a bargain. Probably the best meal I’ve had in France yet, which is saying something. Definitely coming back next time I’m in Paris.

Wow! Everyone else is right — this is a gem of a place. It was across the street from our hotel in Paris(Hotel Le Royal), so very convenient for us. The food was amazing! We had a vegetable terrine with melted cheese, salmon tartare, duck confit, a whole bass with beurre blanc, and crème brûlée! It’s super cozy and warm inside(perfect for the fall weather we had there in November) and the waitress took the time to explain all of the menu items in English for us! Definitely a must! Can’t wait to come back here. Read more about it here with pics on our blog: .

My wife and I ate our first, and then later our last, meals in Paris here while traveling over Thanksgiving. The food was delicious; the prices were utterly reasonable(approx. € 85 for a three course lunch with wine and a cheese plate); and Linda, our waitress for both meals, was a treat. When we first dined there, we were just off the plane: sleepless and regularly mixing-up French and Spanish(«oui» became«si» in our weary speech). The staff was hospitable and unintimidating, tolerant of our abysmal French, and gracious throughout. The only flaw in Bistrot des Campagnes is that it is an ocean away from our home in Washington. We cannot wait to go back. * The setting is quaint, tucked in a quiet alley near the bustling centre of Montparnasse. * The menu is beautifully French: terrines and offals, confits and off-cuts, classic dishes prepared well * Pictured below is our final meal(clockwise from the top-left): Rabbit terrine Pork cheeks Veal kidneys Bone marrow

My wife and i dined here while on holiday recently in Sept 2015. We were staying nearby and discovered this gem just walking by. We can’t rave enough about how great this restaurant is, just everything was superb. The manager helped translate the menu for us which was a shock of sorts, i mean there is a common belief that Parisians are rude but we never found this to be the case let alone this restaurant. I’m certain you could order anything off the menu and enjoy one of the best meals of your life.

Le Bistrot des Campagnes in Montparnasse is perfect for a quick, delicious lunch when you’ve just arrived in Paris. It is wonderful for a relaxing, uncomplicated dinner after a full day of sights and museums. We had lunch here and returned for dinner a few days later. The dining area is cozy and comfortable. The atmosphere is welcoming and attentive. The food is seasonal, traditional, and prepared with knowledge and care. Add Le Bistrot des Campagnesto your list of favorites.

We were up in the Montparnasse Tower seeing the city, and we needed someplace to eat. So we came by here. When we arrived, they were open, but the kitchen wasn’t ready, so we were shown to our seats and ordered some wine. They don’t really have a wine list, you have to go check out the bottles, so my partner went up and did that and found a bottle he really liked(and the servers were impressed as well). This gave us time to check out the venue. It’s super hipstery. Or whatever the French equivalent of hisptery is. But I really enjoyed the photographs(and we even left a note for the artist!), and we enjoyed discussing what we liked and didn’t like about some of them. Foodwise, we ordered the mushrooms with egg as a starter and the veal kidneys for a main. They were both very excellent. The mushrooms and egg were delicious. And the veal kidneys were moreish. I think the other non-French people were surprised at what we were eating, but we just have good taste! Desserts were a cheese plate for my partner and the bitter chocolate mousse. Both were really good. All in all, it’s an enjoyable place to have a great meal. Apparently the people next to us ate there twice in the last three days.

This was by far my favorite meal in Paris. The location is cute and quaint and off the beaten path. It is an open kitchen concept which I really enjoyed and the staff was so helpful. The wine is all set up in bottles behind the bar — just point and choose. The menus are in French but the servers can explain all the dishes in English. Wonderful place that id love to come back to!

My girlfriend and I found out about this wonderful gem from Antoine at the local wine shop on the first night of our Paris stay. The food was amazing and the staff made us feel like old friends. Thanks to Eric and his whole staff we fell in love with this wonderful, cozy bistro and ended up dining with them on 3 different nights. Classic French dishes with just the right twist to make them stand out in an unpretentious setting!

Our dinner tonight was outstanding, starting with the friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. While the menu was in French, the English speaking wait staff was more than happy to translate it for us. The menu is prix fix for two or three courses(starter and main, or main and dessert, or all three). Three of us shared two starters, salmon tartare and an awesome mushrooms in terrine with garlic, butter and a poached egg on top. The duck confit was excellent as was the gratin potatoes on the side. We shared one dessert of profiteroles that was to die for. We’d all come back for that one dish alone.

Very kind staff, whose English far outpaces my French. I ordered simple dishes: the foie gras, which was delicious, not terribly fatty or salty, and was accompanied by a tart compote; the roasted chicken, which, to my surprise, came with a small side of pasta. Very rich, all around, but simple food done beautifully. The atmosphere is comfortable, the food is delicious, and the price is reasonable. A perfect evening in Montparnasse!

Came here bc of good Unilocal reviews. This place is a 2 or 3 course menu. Without dessert, $ 25, with dessert $ 35. Ordered the tomato with cheese and foie gras for the appetizers with my friend. Tomato with cheese was actually surprisingly good because it was a tomato stuffed with bell peppers and cheese and it had a nice unique flavor. The foie gras came with a crispy bread or cracker type thing and a sauce. I dont normally eat foie gras so it was hard to tell if it was a well prepared one. It tasted good is all i can say. For dinner we had the sea bass with mashed potatoes and the beef entrecôte w mashed potatoes. The waitress called it smashed potatoes and we thought it was funny and cute. The sea bass was very soft and light while the mashed potatoes that came with the sea bass had vegetables on top of it which was a delightful spin on typical mashed potatoes. The entrecôte is a french special where you get a sauce that you drizzle over the meat. In this case i got one light and one dark sauce. The light sauce was more creamy and tangy while the dark sauce had a little more spice to it. Overall great experience. Waitress with the boy cut hair was extremely nice.

On my family’s last night in Paris, we went to this eatery based on good reviews from Unilocalers. Yes I can confirm that it is located in the middle of an alley. No, there is no English menu! It is clean and has a quaint atmosphere. With only about 15 tables and two seats at the bar, it is not for the masses. We had the appetizer and the main course. Each dish was prepared fresh and presented beautifully. The portion is generous by French standards, leaving no room for dessert. The price is reasonable and the pain of the bill is diffused by how cutely it was presented. We were even given an entire complimentary loaf of French bread on our way out ! Overall a perfect place to enjoy genuine French ambience.

Great atmosphere, family run and fantastic service. As mall and cosy place tucked away from the Bd du Montparnasse. Has excellent selection of vine and a food menu you’d want in a bistro. I had the duck confit and it was nicely presented — you decide. Hope you see the photo if not take it from me it was delicious, didn’t overwhelm the palate and left a great taste after the meal.

Just wow! The food, service and atmosphere are just absolutely outstanding. The foie gras is out of this world and is a must have. The crème brûlée is a must to top off the evening. What we loved best however were the friendly regulars. Just a great night — and we had our three kids with us who loved the whole thing. Tres bien!

Many other reviews seems to say this is a hidden gem, and I’ll agree 100%. We found this place on Unilocal(thanks, Nearby feature!) while we were figuring out what to do for dinner. It fit this perfect combination of «locals go here so it must be good» + «tourist-friendly enough that we don’t feel like complete outsiders»: about half the other tables spoke French, and the other half several other languages. Menu pricing only, so you’ll choose one of two options for dinner: 1) main + appetizer OR dessert(25.50 Euros) 2) main + appetizer AND dessert(30-something) We both opted for #1, but they let him have the menu with appetizer + main, and me have the main + dessert, so we each were able to share one appetizer and one dessert(the portions in were also generous/easily shareable). While there is no translated menu, there were a few easy-to-recognize dishes(like confit du canard… duck confit, and crème brulée) and one of the 2 waiters running the house spoke enough English to kindly help describe some of the other plates we didn’t understand. All of the food was well-prepared and delicious, and we, too, were charmed by the bill arriving in a cute mini-model of a café. Easily our best meal in Paris(2nd best in France overall). Bonus: it was just a 20-minute walk from our airbnb, and 35 Euro each, which included a 50cl carafe of wine(previously we’d paid about the same for meals without appetizers or desserts, and less wine).

A perfect introduction to Parisian dining. We stayed at the Apostrophe down the street, and the were directed to go here from the kind man running the front desk in the evening. Absolutely outstanding recommendation. We spoke not one speck of French, and the waitress was very understanding and accommodating. She explained that it was a market to table restaurant, french ingredients all made right there by the two men in the kitchen who were wonderfully polite and you could watch all they were doing from your table. Whatever you do, do not miss the Foie Gras, it was absolutely amazing. Everything else is just perfect. Prices were reasonable and the setting was absolutely adorable. DONOTMISS this if you find yourself in Paris!
