Back Alley Bar

I was pleased to discover the casual Back Alley after a friend suggested it as a central meeting point for a quick drink. On Amoy Street between Johnston Road and Queen’s Road East, it’s one of those great matchstick-​thin Hong Kong bars where you’d miss it if you blink while walking by. But, those who don’t blink are rewarded with a low-​key bar with solid draft beers and reasonable prices. The bar was full but not crowded at 6:30pm on a Wednesday, which made for a pleasant happy hour scene. Although the four or five taps poured out the Hong Kong standards (Asahi, Kronenbourg and the like), I was pleased to see inclusion of Rising Sun Pale Ale, a Japanese craft beer. Hopefully that spells good things for the rest of the beer list, which I did not have a chance to check out — though I take it as an excellent sign! The service was friendly and efficient, which is just the ticket for an after-​work drink, and varying happy hour specials also seem to be on offer. My visit was definitely enjoyable but unfortunately short, so I am looking forward to another visit where I have more time check out what else this fun little bar has to offer.
