Really good soup here. The pork bone soup is excellent and very flavourful. Same goes for the black oil garlic ramen. There can be a bit of a line but it is good value for money.

Came here and waited on line while suffering a major hangover. My group waited about an hour and a half, but we were not disappointed at all with this place. Out of all the places in HK this was probably the only restaurant where service was up to par with their delicious food. Once seated, you hand them whatever you ordered and bam the food will magically appear right in from of you. We ordered a bunch of different types of ramen, in which all were very tasty, gyoza and the BBQ pork rice bowls. The pork in the pork bowl literally melts in your mouth. Super freaking good. Forget the dimsum and wonton noodle soup, this is no doubt my hangover meal whenever I am in HK.

This is also my go to spot for lunch but there is always a line so you either go at noon or at 1:30pm then you can skip the wait and go straight to order your Ramen. Their soup base is so good and if they sell out the soup during lunch then you will have to wait for next day. What i like the most is their spicy bean sprouts. It’s like asian style pickle. I always go for medium noodle and extra green onion.

«They serve what!?» was my reaction when my friend told me about the BBQ Pork Bowl at Kamitora 神虎拉麵. That’s right, barbecued pork over rice, served at a ramen joint. I had to find out for myself. Kamitora is on Amoy street, exactly one street next to another ramen shop, 黑龍拉麵 Koku Ryu Ramen. Kamitora seems to be the more popular one as there was a small line when I arrived. After a 10 minute wait, we were seated and served. I didn’t know what to expect of a Japanese BBQ Pork Bowl, at a ramen place. Since I was thinking the local Chinese ones with a fried egg on top, drizzled with fragrant soy sauce. Only found in Cha Chan Teng’s and bbq meat shops. It’s a favorite local Hong Kong dish, immortalized by Stephen Chow’s God of Cookery. The Japanese version also had the fried egg on top, with a veeery runny yolk, meant to be pierced and mixed with the sweet soy sauce in the rice. The bbq pork was neither Chinese style nor the slices like in the ramen — it was cubes of fatty pork that were melt in your mouth. I took a spoonful of the rice, egg and soy sauce mixture, topped it with a cube of pork and egg. Heaven. An instant contender to my «what would be your last meal on earth» question. At Hkd 45, 1⁄3 of the price of the Kamitora Special, this was a great deal too. Next time, I’m ordering two. The Kamitora Special was their classic noodle, with all the condiments, and extra slices of pork. It was decent, but the pork was very lean for some reason, had all the fat parts been used in the rice? It was decent, though I think Butao and Ichiran have more memorable noodles. But in all fairness, I was still being overwhelmed by the BBQ Pork Bowl. Mmm.

Great ramen! We had the black ramen and want to go back for the red ramen. Gyoza were awesome, too. Staff speaks English well enough to help you order and attend to any needs. We arrived at 11:30 and by 12:15, the place was packed.

I really have no idea how many Ramen places I have visited this week, but the craving seems to be growing still. Is it just me or it happens to most locals here… ramen restaurants are everywhere but it is difficult to come by the good ones. And today I would like to introduce you all to one called Kamitora Ramen located in Wanchai. Unlike other ramen joints that share the same fame, this place is located on Amoy Street and relatively easier to find. Personally it was really similar looking to other ramen places that opened in the same period, so I guess the only way I could differeiate them is the quality of food. I ordered the classic one as I always believe it is best to have something that gets this place famous in the first place. It did not take long before they served me the food — and first thing first — the broth. Normally for a ramen junkie like me, you will see me devouring the soup in no time, yet not this one. Not that it did not taste good, it was really savory with such strong aroma. However, it was too oily for my taste unfortunately so I had to drink quite a lot of green tea to make myself feel better. Overall, the ramen was of very top quality and it is hard to find a ramen place that serves you a whole hotspring egg nowadays and it tastes heaven!
