I recall when I used to think Caliburger was an acceptable option to fulfill my American burger cravings. Granted this was a couple years after moving to HK while still struggling to find anything close to satisfactory and well before the HK burger crazy kicked off. After trying Burger Joys(right around the corner) last weekend, I decided to give Caliburger another shot since it’d been a while. To keep it a fair comparison, I order the same double cheeseburger(«Cali-double»), but opted for the Wild fries since tater tots were not on the menu and I had to try the house specialty. The Cali-double also comes wrapped in two layers of wax paper with half the burger exposed for easy access, gooey cheese melting over the edge, and a few slices of fresh veggies(standard lettuce and tomato). Caliburger obviously includes their«special» sauce which is basically just thousand island dressing. The first bite seemed promising enough, but continued bites gave way to the dry, flavorless patties masked under all of the condiments. The patties themselves didn’t taste much different from a typical fast food burger(yes, think McDonald’s). As soon as I stripped away the rest of the wrapper, I knew it was all or nothing, as cheese, sauce, burger were falling out of every angle. The fries themselves were good but after a few minutes the heavy mixture of Wild sauce, cheese, and grilled onions started to congeal and proved too much for the fries to balance. Although regretting the inevitable damage of consuming a double cheeseburger and Wild sauces on everything, I was happy to end the questioning: next time just go to Burger Joys.

The burger is good. But it seems missing something as they do not serve beer anymore.

burgers are great, they do remind me of In N Out — they come with the«animal» sauce. The fries are not as good as In N Out, but they are average. Service is good.

Their burgerquality might get close to in&out… but it’s not the level of neighbouring big jo’s… they should get better buns… the whole cocktail concept is innovative though… and so I am hopeful they are gonna pull it off !

Nice place in Wanchai and you can see the effort at becoming an «In n Out» for Hong Kong. I came here mainly because I needed a place to charge my phone — CaliBurger has seats with phone chargers! So I arrived at 8 and the place was completely deserted. Surprisingly so, because the food here ain’t bad, my Cali double Burger was pretty delicious, the buns were toasted and was actually CRUNCHY when I. Got them. The meat wasn’t your we– added– so much– pepper– you– won’t– notice– bland– meat Macdonald patty, I could taste the real ground beef there. Though it was a bit light on the sauces, there were bottles of ketchup, mustard and Tabasco at every table to cater to everyone’s, well, sauciness. Added Hkd 20 for the wild style fries, which were not worth it. Fries itself were ok, but wild style was basically just fries with the cheese sauce on it. And it was the processed cheese type. Stick with normal fries. Meal came up to Hkd 120. Pretty pricey for a fast food burger joint. But decent place, and if you know there are always seats.

I’m from California so In & Out is in my blood. And I miss it oh so… so…: :sobs:: …soooo much. And wouldn’t ya know it, I end up living directly across the street from a pretty damn good copycat In & Out Burger. It’s totally decent and I eat it more often than I’d care to admit! Skip the french fries as they’re totally sub-par(I’ve seen them just fish them out of a bag of frozen fries and tossed in the deep fryer) but they have great buffalo wings(served with blue cheese and celery sticks). They have a frequent visitor card so if you get five burgers, the sixth is free(I think — something like that…) I am embarrassed to say I have gotten a couple free burgers so far lol ;-). I wish it was a little less sloppy by way of a more toasted bun or a tad less spread, because without fail it’s falling apart in my hands and creating a giant mess half way through eating! Basically, don’t come here on a date if you’re trying to impress someone haha.

Caliburger satisfies my burger cravings without breaking my wallet. About $ 58HKD for a burger, sets come in at an extra $ 19HKD for fries and a drink. It’s pretty much an Inn & Out, complete with the wild fries and all, plus they serve liquor. I had the pleasure of visiting Caliburger when they had their 1 year anniversary celebration and snagged The Wanchai Special set for $ 94HKD, bleu cheese, pickled onions, bacon, jalapenos, and special sauce! I’m not a bleu cheese kind of gal, but in this case it really complemented the burger. They had free 961 beer and that was a treat. Lebanese pale ale with flavors of thyme and chamomile.(They also had $ 10HKD cheeseburgers the following Saturday, woot!) Anywho, their regular burgers are slam dunk because not only do they have the special sauce and all the regular tomato, lettuce fixings, but also grilled onions. Their drinks are about the size of a small and their fries order of fries is a good amount for the meal, check the pics. Their onion rings are amazing! Though $ 28HKD for an order, I had to splurge. After you order, grab a seat. There are phone chargers, iPhone 5 and mini-USB chargers all around the place. Your order will find a way to you. The usual ketchup, mustard, and surprisingly Siracha! Music videos are playing on the tvs all around the joint. Bathrooms in the back. The staff are really nice, helpful, and hard-working. Chill place, great burgers, and awesome deals for upgrades and weekend brunch times.
