Hong Kong Airlines

I flew this airline from Hong Kong to Beijing and Hong Kong to Taipei on the airline’s Business class. This airline operates an all-​Airbus fleet consisting of Airbus A320 and Airbus A330. I manage to sample both old and new Business Class products on the Airbus A330−200 and Airbus A330−300 aircraft.
The new J class product is configured in 1−2−1 staggered style with better IFE (In-​flight entertainment) system while the older product is configured in 2−2−2 old style business class seats with older IFE entertainment system. To be honest, I prefer the older product as I find it to be more comfortable than the newer one. I find the staggering configuration especially sitting on the aisle seat, lacking of privacy but that’s my personal opinion.
As for the cabin service, all 4 flights I flew on were average to good, nothing spectacular but at least it met my expectation. In-​flight meal was not bad, choices were given by the crew when they take your order before departure. As for the IFE system, the contents are limited but at least they were showing the recent movies, good enough for regional routes.
Overall, I find Hong Kong Airlines value of $$ especially for the air ticket price I paid for the Business Class ticket, it was only a $ 100 more than Economy Class. Great deal right? So check out the airline’s website especially when a sales is going on, you can get yourself a bargain.

From award-​winning to budget airlines, as a frequent flyer, I’ve dealt with my fair share of airlines. How does Hong Kong Airline rank? I guess compared to other budget airlines, its not so bad.
The Good: Cheap flights throughout many locations in southeast Asia. You can almost always be guaranteed cheaper flights than their more popular counterparts such as Cathay. Their economy seats are also surprisingly roomy. Their airplanes aren’t the newest but also not the oldest. Seats have a personal entertainment center with fairly recent movies.
The Bad: Very buggy website. Most times you don’t get a confirmation email about your booked flight. What?! This should be a standard! Anyway, if you ever book HK Airline, make sure you print or save your confirmation!
The Ugly: Their customer service is almost non-​existent. We had a visa question, and the embassy said to ask in advance whether HK Air will let us board with a nearly expired visa. Needless to say HK Air told us to ask the embassy instead. Also, non-​knowledgeable employees; I had checked in online prior to arriving to the airport and told the ‘helper’ guy by the check-​in desk. He said that if we already checked in online, we can just walk through security without a physically printed ticket. Needless to say we wasted time because security wouldn’t accept e-​tickets and we had to go back into the long queue.
Anyway, would I fly HK Air again? The answer is yes, but only for the right price and schedule.
