La Vache!

I heard about the long wait to this place, so we came the night because CNY and we got a table right away. The décor was really Frenchie, service was great.
I kinda like I don’t have to choose what’s on the menu for once. They started us with their house salad, pretty decent. I had the steak cooked to medium. It was a little bit to hard. I tried my friend’s who also ordered a medium. And it was pretty tender. I guess more quality control on the steak. The fries was pretty solid.
We didn’t had room for dessert but all in all, we had a great experience at La Vache! It has lived up to its fame.

La Vache does one meal only and they do it right!!! USDA steak, bottomless fries and salad.

Always a consistent place for the set menu that’s there.
I had to post a review for Saturday night. The hostess had a friendly face but she was not great for the business that has now become a staple in the area.
Most patrons stop at La Vache, if there is a queue we leave our name and number and roam around the area. At the time, the hostess said it would be about 45 mins. We got the call, got to the restaurant, there were several tables empty and she said she can only offer us the bar seats because it’s first come first serve. Nobody was else was being seated so I told her, first come, first serve, that’s us! You called others on your list but we are here first. She was embarrassed but only said they are not available. Next I noticed more tables clearing up and we asked to wait for the next one she said it would take another 45 mins.
At the end I knew she would not be helpful — we took the bar seats. Let’s just say i saw a table for two that was open for at least 20 mins. I was not happy with her front of the house service. I’m happy our server behind the bar was great. Observant, pleasant, friendly, apologetic if there were minor spillage while serving other patrons.
Management, hope your hosting services improves in future because I’ve been a repeated customer since opening. I’m critical because it’s HK, but mostly because I’ve been a waitress. If she were hotter, I may be able to look beyond this. Sorry, it’s a superficial world if you know what I mean.

Service: Good! Very helpful despite all the demands my friend had.
Food: Steak was a little bit chewy. Fries were super good! Sauce that went with it was verrrrrry good. I would almost return just for the fries. At the end of dinner there is a dessert cart that comes around with an array of options.
Environment: They were mostly couples there. Lights are quite dim. I get the vibe of it being a date spot.

This will probably be my most difficult Hong Kong review. Expectations were sky high for La Vache, and for the most part those expectations were met, but there are several caveats.
First off, my wife and I decided to go to La Vache two days after New Years. Hong Kong is very slow this time of year. A lot of expats are back home for the holidays and the SoHo area is about as dead as you’ll ever see it.
But even with all that, there was a line of people 25 deep 15 minutes before the restaurant opened at 6:00pm. Luckily, we jumped in line and got the last available table. So you don’t need to read between the lines– this place is popular and extremely busy. The only reservations they accept are for parties of five or more, so you WILL wait to eat (and forget about waiting at the bar– all of those seats are occupied by diners as well). We noticed that you are rushed through dinner so they can get the next party in your seat.
But the wait is completely worth it. You start with delicious French bread and a salad that whets your appetite nicely. Then they bring your steaks, which are are cooked to perfection, and the fries which are crispy and tasty. For a price of $ 278 per person, I also thought the value was great for such a popular place.
Tango is still my favorite steak in HK, but if you can accept the wait and the rushed service, La Vache is a must try for steak lovers.

So the key info you need to know is the menu has 2 items: steak and fries. That’s it. It is an one-​item menu kind of restaurant. Oh, you also get a salad with your dinner. The salad is quite good although my girlfriend insists she can make a better salad.
The meat was delicious as were the fries so no complain there. Service was efficient, not great. The ladies were all about efficiency, not at all into engaging the customers in idle chit chat.
I thought they play the music way too loud and the tables are literally stacked on top of each other so not much room for a couple to have date night unless you want people on both sides of you to listen in.
The drinks were good, not watered down. Price wise this place isn’t bad

Great place that was recommended by a local friend and another traveler. There’s no menu. You menu is a walnut salad, steak and bottomless amazing fries all for $ 278HK (approx. $ 35US). The fries really were amazing and I have no idea how they were done. The steak sauce was great and a good drip for the fries if you wish. Highly recommend this place for eats. They roll around with the desert cart if you chose. We were lucky to get here early and got a table. Mid way of our dinner, it was packed.

could have started out as a bad experience, their servers need to get some customer service training! I think the guy behind the bar is John. he saved the experience for me and I really enjoyed not only the food but the service. would definitely go there again only if John is there and not these stupid rude servers

This is one of my favorite places for Steak frites. There is only 1 menu and it’s written on the table paper: Salad, AYCE (all you can eat) fries, steak, and dessert.
The steak is done to perfection and the sauce is outrageously delicious. The fries are also nice and crunchy — and they really don’t give you a dirty look for ordering a few more rounds of fries.
Parents with young kids, beware — The music is a bit loud here and because of the limited menu, I wouldn’t consider it a family-​friendly place.

So, this is the kind of Soho restaurant that only serves a single menu item. Oh and of course, you can’t have a booking here, unless you have less than five guests. Classic Soho.
Salad, steak, fries and dessert are what you can only get. You walked in, they asked you how do you want to have your steak done, and that is it. Not even mad, I liked the simplicity. The wine selection had already made perfect for pairing, so it couldn’t go wrong.
Salad was okay. I wasn’t quite a fan of salad anyway (I like it for lunch, but at dinner time I always save my quota for main courses). The steak was GREAT. I meant, for that value, you couldn’t have better steak around in Soho. Maybe you’d find better quality — but it’s made perfectly. They even had a little oven in front of you to keep the steak at the right temperature the whole meal.
Shoestring fries were good too. Crispy and not greasy, and only if McDonald’s could make this regularly. The trick is, ask for a refill whenever they have a fresh basket of fries coming straight out from the kitchen. That’s the best. Other time you may get a refill of lukewarm fries.
The dessert cart was amazing. I only had this kind of dessert cart a couple of times, and it never fails to amaze me. I got a mango tart, simple and yummy, but I wouldn’t mind trying every single one of their dessert items here every time I come (hey, after all that’s the only thing you can choose here).

I first read about La Vache! in the Western United States edition of the Sing Tao Daily news and found the idea intriguing, a flat $ 278 HK for a dinner which consists of a salad with walnut and radish with light vinaigrette dressing, and steak frittes (with bottomless fries which you can eat to your heart’s content). Supposedly there was another restaurant called «W» (if memory servess) that did the same thing, but it is apparently no longer in business.
My mom and I went to Jimmy’s Kitchen after she was done early at the doctor’s, as it happened we were there too early and since I didn’t bring any reading material (left my copy of «EAGLE SHOOTING HEROES» novel at home), I was raiding their free reading materials rack and happened upon a copy of the FOODIE magazine. While flipping through the rag I read about La Vache! and decided I had to give the place a visit.
After suffering through an endless stream of subpar steaks at various establishments, it was with relief that I finally had a really well cooked piece of MEDIUM RARE rib eye steak with some GIRTH and nice flavour. The «special sauce» was also pretty good, it tasted kinda like au poivre but without the peppercorn and also a bit light on the cognac.
Service is adequate, and it felt weird having to order in english after all these weeks in Hong Kong (the only other time was at the pretty shitty Simply Life, but that is another story). I liked it that they don’t try to fleece customers by forcing bottled mineral water on them like Bo’s Innovation or charge «tea fee/​mustard fee» like most Chinese restaurants.
Not a lot of choices of wines, though there are quite a lot of choices for beer and other lighter cocktails. Supposedly they change desserts quite often (daily?) but I wasn’t really in the mood for it. I got a glass of the house wine ($ 78) and a fruity chick drink ($ 98) with elderberry flavour. The total came out to be $ 499 which is fairly reasonable. I certainly don’t mind coming again, though I’d probably head back to Robuchon before I make another trip here.

The menu is straight forward, no need to order just how you want your steak. For starters we got some warm French bread with butter on the side.
The salad was simple, lettuce with walnut, radish and dressing.
To me the steak (ribeye) was too chewy. Every bite you need to chew the steak well and most of them had a string that would get stuck in between your teeth.
They take birthday request and will light a candle on your dessert

I love restaurants that specialize in 1 thing– it’s a pretty sure bet that its damn good. La Vache! is a great steak and frites place for those craving meat. I love the sauce that accompanies the perfectly cooked juicy steak and the unlimited fries adds a decadent touch. It’s been added to a «must try» on my list for anyone visiting HK.

Go when you’re hungry. Really hungry. Did I mention, be hungry?
The steak was juicy and flavorful. Unlimited frites are dangerously good.
There’s only one first and main course option — salad, steak and frites. You’ll see this on the table cover since there’s no food menu. We didn’t get dessert so not sure if there’s a menu but I did see a cart filled with pies and other sweets.
Overall, definitely check this place out when in HK.

Had a great birthday dinner with my parents here last night! The reason of choosing this place is simple — there is not much choices on the menu, saving the old people a lot of headache in speaking English. Cos it’s just steaks and fries here, all they need to say is medium /​medium rare etc. Also save me the hassle translating menu ha ha.
It’s my second time here. I saw some couples and smaller table this time, which was not allowed as earlier bookings have to be at least 5 pax. Maybe they have laxed the requirement…
The chargrilled steaks were juicy and beefy. Since the steaks are all cut into strips, again make it convenient for my parents. And feels kinda local Chinese as the steaks can be easily shared across, so my parents are happy and enjoyed the atmosphere.
The free refilled fries is addicting, cannot stop once started eating…
Another great thing — they could write nice calligraphy! On request, they helped writing happy birthday on the strawberry tart we have ordered. Cheering up my dad a lot!
Overall, it’s a nice casual dinner with friendly staff and great service.

La Vache! is a restaurant locating at the SOHO area, if you are looking for some middle-​ranged steakhouse with high quality, this is it.
If u are a lazy person, your gonna love this place. There’s only one item on the menu, that is their set course: salad, steak and fries. What u need to do is to tell them how well do you want your steak to be cooked.
Fries are all you can eat, good news for big eaters haha, and what is more, they are garlic fries! What on earth is better than garlic fries! I can’t stop eating. they are crispy and golden! Nom nom.
Luckily me and my girlfriend still have room for desserts. We tried the two recommendations from the chef: Paris Brest and banana pie. They both are so good! Paris Brest is a little bit better than the banana pie: P So if u are too full, still order that single one to share. You won’t be disappointed: D

Too lazy to choose? Like single-​item restaurants? Then La Vache! is definitely right up your narrow passageway. La Vache! (holy cow) is situated in the restaurant-​infested area of SoHo. Me and two colleagues dined in here because we were near the area and I only had $ 300 to spare for dinner. La Vache! has a neon sign entrance with an unassuming residential gate at its side.
It is a basement restaurant, much like Doppio Zero in Sheung Wan, and sported red gingham-​esque tablecloths and a dimly-​lit convivial atmosphere. Steak frites is the name of the game here, and I wasted no time in ordering mine as medium rare. The salad before the steak frites was just so and so, but then again, I did not expect it to be anything great, just a filler before the main event. What is the steak, you say? It is a rib-​eye cut, full of tenderness and the brilliant creamy French sauce that is béarnaise. Béarnaise is no joke; it is tedious to prepare and is definitely authentic (yes there is faux béarnaise).
I like how they serve the steak frites, giving us two-​halves while keeping the third at our table’s center, with a tea light candle (IKEA, is that you?) to keep it warm and moist. The dinner plates were surprisingly warm, not hot like a claypot dish where you might have to wait a couple of minutes before your food cools down just enough for consumption.
If you like fries, you’re in for a treat as the fries are all you can eat, crispy and golden. Other restaurants that served steak and fries usually have soggy fries as they are an afterthought. Not here at La Vache! — although I wish the steak were the all you can eat though (wishful thinking).
If you come with a group of 4 or less, walk-​ins are definitely the best thing to do. For those with 5 or more people, reservations are highly recommended. Actually, just make a reservation anyway as La Vache! is #veryhyped so it tends to get full even on weekdays.
