Muji

Store is nice and I love their product, but don’t expect great service from the sales associates. I was disappointed after coming here, selecting my items, then proceeding to the checkout where the sales lady told me I couldn’t purchase the item I pulled off the shelf because it was apparently «out of stock» (even though there were at least a dozen others on the same shelf). She sent another sales associate to check and see if there was another one mark to sell, but she came back empty handed. I ended up going back out on the floor myself and finding it easily behind some other products. Disappointing that I could provide better service myself than their sales floor staff could.

A big departure from Hong Kong’s excessively cutesy stationery and homegoods is Muji, whose selection of lifestyle goods is aggressively no-​frills. The pens and notebooks are wonderful and are mainstays in my collection. The apparel, though boring and sometimes shapeless, is well-​constructed and occasionally yields a few good basics such as cotton knit button-​downs and lightweight down vests.
Overrated:
The packaged food is extremely overrated; many offerings taste how they look (no personality).
While they have a large selection of beauty products, the quality is lackluster (nail polish particularly disappointing, as well as creams that leave a sticky residue). You are better off with other brands.
Other things:
The Harbour City store is overrun by throngs of tourists.
Muji tends to discontinue items without advance notice (which is annoying since they offer ‘staple’ products).
