Tofu is such a special food that I think its worth a special mention. It could be used as a starter(served cold), as a main course(too many to name) and even a dessert(sweet tofu). It could be molded into meat like substance and could even be used to make soya milk. This stuff is good. Kung Wo has been known for its tofu for many, many years and this shows in the store. Stepping into the workshop/store and sitting on the wooden stools, you feel like you are stepping back in the 70’s and I’m pretty sure this place hasn’t been done up since. What they serve here is pretty simple– sweet tofu(basically a big block of tofu with sweeteners) served hot or cold, soya milk and some fried items amongst which, includes a big block of tofu. Its not a Michelin star dessert and it won’t cut it on masterchef. It is down to earth and simply a white block of smoothness, which is warming in the winter served hot whilst calming in the summer served cold. Whilst you munch away you can also take a peek into the preparation area to see how they make all this stuff. Its too bad they don’t do other items as I bet it will also taste brilliant; after all they have spent a good three decades making the stuff it can’t be bad. However, the fact that this place still does it right might be down to the fact that they have detracted from what they know– and they have stuck with it ever since.
