I was the only one in the restaurant perhaps because of odd timing. The service was excellent as was the food. I wish I could sample more of their food but the sizes were large enough that I was completely full after 3 orders of dim sum and an order of noodle.

I can’t help but make a face when my family invited me to vegetarian dim sum during my vacation in Hong Kong, but it was surprising good. Restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of Coda Plaza, it is a good 10 minutes walk from the nearest MTR station, so plan ahead. Seems like advance reservation is recommended for the weekend, as I see lots of people coming during the peak lunch hours. While I do not know what ingredients they put into their dim sum, they were delicious and not filled with mock meat. However, it is a little bit on the pricey side. Cost for Dim Sum was roughly $ 200/people. This visit to Pure Veggie House definitely changed what I thought about Chinese Vegetarian restaurants. I would definitely recommend this to friends.

Really fresh, great tasting food. The menu is comprehensive and not filled with mock meat. Enjoyed the ambiance, but wish it was a bit more accessible by mtr.

So full disclosure — I’m on vacation, I’m happy, everything is awesome. Everything is cool when you’re part of… wait, never mind. Anyway, the point is that I’m pretty much looking for restaurants to love. And boy, does Pure Veggie love you right back. Let’s start off with the golden mushroom needles: individual strands of an enoki mushroom, dipped in batter and deep fried with salt and pepper. Absolutely fantastic. It’s as close as you get to calamari without a squid. We only got the guo tie(pan fried dumplings) and xiao long bao(soup dumplings) from the dim sum menu, but they were both delicious. I never thought you could make good vegetarian xiao long bao. Today I learned not to doubt Buddhists in the kitchen. The wild mushroom hot pot is basically, well, hot pot. But it does have some interesting twists. The broth is miso and there is a huge variety of ingredients: mushrooms of different kinds, leafy greens, ramen noodles, and a set of uncooked dumplings. Hot pot really needs meat, but somehow this actually works(see a trend here?). Love it, making Hong Kong safe for vegetarians to visit. It is a long walk from the closest MTR, and convoluted too, so plan ahead.
