Sweets House Cha Cha

If you look around Harbour City, you’ll notice a lot of the young people holding a green tea ice cream cone. After a long and tedious run through the mall, we managed to find the Cha Cha stand and got one for ourselves! I ordered a matcha ice cream float and for an extra 5 HKD, got a hot red bean matcha custard cake as well. The ice cream was rich with matcha but the float had a little too much ice. The cake was bland and soggy, really not worth adding. I guess I should have just stuck with the green tea ice cream cone.

Very decent chain of ice cream stores that specialises in hokkaido milk flavour and matcha flavour around HK. You can find them in pretty much every citysuper in HK (Harbour City, Times Square etc)
Definitely recommend the hokkaido milk ice cream. Their matcha ice cream isn’t bad either, but I personally prefer the flavouring of Via Tokyo’s Matcha ice cream. But if you want good matcha/​milk ice cream that’s convenient to access to, this place is the place to go.

On the third floor of harbour city is the city super deli area (food court style). Cha cha is right in the front by the cash registers. There’s one fast lane for people who are paying with the octopus card, otherwise, a worker will take your order and have you line up at the cash registers to pay.
I ordered a twist in a waffle bowl with milk and matcha ice cream, some red bean and mochi on the side. Like some people have mentioned, the matcha flavor isn’t very strong. The mochi is nice and chewy but my favorite is the red bean. Waffle bowl was a good addition although I really couldn’t finish it. Overall, a good treat on a hot and humid summer day.

Had dinner with a few colleagues tonight in Tsim Sha Tsui area and wanted some dessert. I was especially craving some soft serve ice cream and I remembered that I had walked by this place when I was wondering around Harbour City the other day. There are basically two flavors, milk and green tea, with an additional option of getting the twist. You can get it in either cone or cup. If you get it in a cup there are additional options of topping such as mochi, red bean paste and pudding. You can also get it as a milk shake.
I got the twist in a cup with a few toppings. The ice cream itself is very creamy with a great soft serve texture. The flavor is not very strong which I actually liked. If you really want a strong green tea flavor then it is not for you. All in all it definitely hit the spot. I will definitely come back and get more since I’m a big fan of soft serve ice cream. It’s not quite the same as the soft serve at Eataly in Chicago, but it definitely satisfies my craving for soft-​serve ice cream.

Everybody knows that one matcha ice cream place in Citysuper. I didn’t even know its name until maybe a year ago — I just knew it existed. I haven’t had ice cream from Cha Cha in a while, and I did today because as a ‘gold member’ of Citysuper we received a voucher to redeem a free cone.
Because it was a Sunday, it was especially crowded. There was a pretty long line but I really was craving ice cream so I decided to just wait. As I got closer towards the front of the line, I realized that the queue kind of split into two — one to pay and one to collect the ice cream. There was a member of staff noting down our orders in the line. This really confused me and I had no idea which queue I was even in anymore — I heard a woman remark to her husband that this was a really strange system that was more confusing than it needs to be.
Anyway, they have three types of cones — green tea, milk, and a twist cone with both green tea and milk. Wanting the best of both worlds, I went for the twist cone. My first bite (lick?) in, I was reminded why I’ve never had the ice cream here more than two or three times — the green tea ice cream seriously lacks a green tea taste. Even though it was a combination of green tea and milk ice cream, the milk, which I suppose naturally is the milder of the two flavors, somehow drowned out the taste of the green tea. The ice cream was really smooth and milky though.
If you’re a hardcore matcha fan, the ice cream here won’t impress. The green tea flavor is way too light, and too milky and sweet for matcha, which is supposed to have some bitter undertones. But if you just crave ice cream that’s super milky and creamy, and don’t care much for whether the green tea taste is there or not, then you would definitely like this!
